I've have the center of a 428 "wagon wheel" flexplate shear, but never lost a bolt like that.

The tension on the bolt is expected to be much higher than the bending load that the fastener will see, with the friction between the two objects being clamped resisting the movement between the objects.

It seems that to have the fasteners shear, they must have loosened enough to relax the clamping load, then subjecting the fasteners to bending stresses and leading to failure.

I have a 445 in my F250, with mildly ported D2 heads and a very mild roller cam.  I have an iron CJ intake on it and seems to work like a champ.  Plus it looks like a proper truck engine should :D

I installed a Terminator X Stealth on the 416FE in one of my cars.  Looks really good...most folks don't realize it is an EFI unit.  Tunes pretty much exactly like the Sniper.  I'd do it again on another engine.  I have a standard Sniper on a 445FE, Edelbrock PF4 on my 363 small block, and am installing a sequential setup using a Holley HP ECU on my rowdy 465FE.

When I had TP heads, it seemed to be a big hurdle to get the exhaust to flow.  Recollection was that the TP exhaust port was a different and awkward shape compared to the MR ports.  After much massaging, we managed to get the flow with a 1.75" valve about equal to a mildly ported Ed head with 1.65" valves.

Is the exhaust flow not really a factor on the TP head performance?  Are there tricks to getting to port to flow well?  Do you significantly increase exhaust duration to compensate for the generous intake flow?

Thanks for giving this combo a go.  Should be an interesting build.

Proud to have three JDC manifolds in the stable. Thanks for the fine work and dedication!

What does the coil driver do in the installation?  I've installed Sniper/TermX Stealth on two FEs with locked out Duraspark/MSD6A ignition setups and didn't need any additional boxes or other stuff.  Also installed a Holley HP on a sequential setup using a Sniper CD box, and a Ed PF4 on my Z2363 small block with a 6A box.  I guess all my stuff has a MSD 6A or Sniper CD box installed.

Are you planning to have the ECU control the ignition timing?

FE Technical Forum / Re: FE Power PCV plate?

I ran a plate on the back with a breather basket and "Brillo-pad" in it.  Top was a metal PCV valve with a hose connecting it to manifold vacuum.  Didn't have any problem on the street, but found that when I ran it on the track, from the top of third gear and into fourth, the exhaust would start trailing oil smoke.  Disconnected the PCV and the smoke went away.  Just too much oil in back of the lifter valley during prolonged high RPM and acceleration.  Now I run a breather in each valve cover and no issues.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Block bolt hole repair on Deck - best option?

Bought the Time-sert kit and repaired the hole.  Looks quite robust now. dressed the top of the insert with a file to ensure it didn't stick up above the deck.  Time to get the heads back on!

Would repairing the hole with an insert compromise the deck strength at all?

Shining a light into the hole, it looks like the threads are just worn out where the bolt ends.  Would it make sense to have a stud in only the one location, and bolts in the rest?

Doing winter maintenance on the 465 in my street car, and have one head bolt that won't torque out.  Center lower hole.

Is a timesert the way to repair this?

Another option could be to run studs on the short external positions, but I'm limited to bolts with shortened heads on the long internal positions to work with my Jesel rocker system.

Thoughts?
