FE Technical Forum / Edelbrock heads possible rocker shaft thread issue.
« on: December 06, 2020, 04:57:10 PM »
I have ARP rocker shaft studs and when I reassembled the valvetrain I noticed when I torqued it to spec if felt a little mushy. I drove the car a few miles today and I noticed the driver's side seems to have some clatter now. Has anyone had an ARP stud stretch to a point it won't meet torque spec?
If that isn't the issue the worst case scenario would be the two to the rear are pulling the threads.
Is there a repair that can be done on the engine that is sufficient strength wise?

I bought Original Air reproduction hoses. The liquid line has the offset at the evaporator firewall. The hoses are ran and tied down to the export brace. The material seems extremely stiff compared to the Ford hoses. When the engine torques the hoses pull push the PCV and fitting out of the valve cover grommet.
Has anyone had this issue? Does anyone have a Mustang or Cougar that is unmolested at the firewall where the AC hoses exit they could post?
I appreciate any help.

FE Technical Forum / Dropping in the distributor.... DUH!!
« on: November 23, 2020, 11:37:49 AM »
I just went through installing the complete factory air in my mustang. Because I was pulling a little oil and the intake gaskets looked soggy I pulled the intake in the process.
I had marked the distributor and the intake and wound up wiping the mark off with brake cleaner.

I have always set the damper at 0 and The rotor pointing at #1. Is there a better method? did I miss something?
I know many of you do this day in-day out and with the lateral bracket in place it's a real bitch to get to the bolt that holds the clamp down.

Any secret methods to guarantee it's right the first time would be appreciated. Thank you!

FE Technical Forum / New flywheel balanced to match balance sheet?
« on: November 10, 2020, 12:42:21 AM »
I had the engine balanced with an aluminum flywheel. I am starting to think I lost a bit of torque/inertia out of the hole with a 13lb flywheel.
Would the consensus be that a steel flywheel change be beneficial to out of the hole response? Or do I stay with the aluminum?

FE Technical Forum / New MSD streetfire wire issues. Anti-stick solutions?
« on: November 01, 2020, 01:46:56 PM »
I have 900 miles on the engine and I changed the plugs once right after break-in.  The boots on these are a weird silicon material and they were all but impossible to remove from the plugs and the distributor cap and coil. I did use a slight amount of Dielectric grease to try to avoid a potential issue of this nature. Any suggestions for another type of product to use so the wires release easier from the plug and cap?

FE Technical Forum / FE Intake Gasket Installation Tricks?
« on: October 31, 2020, 05:48:34 PM »
I've been dealing with seepage at the corners post installation after dumping the cork gaskets and using TA-31 sealant as recommended by a few here and elsewhere.
I decided to use the cork and glued them to the walls. I am using the Felpro 1247-S3 this time instead of the leaky fibrous Edelbrock gaskets.

It was recommended to use a paper-thin smear of sealer around each port on both intake and head side.
The issue at hand is the TA-31 sealer seems to be starting to set up faster than I can get everything done and the intake on so I can torque it.
Any suggestions? Old sealer?

I also want to torque it, let the sealer set up and then put the fuel log and coil bracket back on. Should I be concerned with "upsetting" the seal of the intake to the heads doing things this way?

I am starting the dry-run on installation of the air condition on my 1967 mustang. It seems as their may be a potential clearance issue with the  'nub' cast into the front side of the hose where the bypass is. Has anyone had an issue with this?
Any wisdom imparted would be welcome.
