FE Technical Forum / Timing changes
« on: January 12, 2021, 06:36:52 AM »
I am currently building a 505 inch torque motor for a 69 crewcab 4x4. I plan on it being a daily driver. When the engine is complete I intend to tune it on a dyno.
The motor had a Danny Bee belt drive on it in good shape. Should I use that for the dyno tuning and then replace it with a standard chain set up ?  Or can it be used long term in a daily driver ?  Or should I get one of the FE Power set ups?
Once the timing is set I don't foresee any need to change it.
Any thoughts?

FE Technical Forum / Genesis torque specs
« on: December 23, 2020, 08:41:46 AM »
I have an early Genesis block and am looking for torque specs for the bottom end. Specifically the cross bolts on the mains. It has ARP bolts. I have read that on the stock blocks the cross bolts torque to 40 lbs but I believe they have smaller bolts ?

My build is active!
I’m doing a frame off resto mod. Frame and front axle are done. All body parts are disassembled blasted and primed. Late model lariat leather interior has been fitted and removed. Engine is at machine shop for bore and deck. Pistons cam and other goodies recently received from Brent. BBM heads and Edelbrock port injected manifold ported by JDC waiting for installation
I should be building the motor before the end of the year and the sheet metal should be at the painters for bondo and paint in the same time frame. I have posted some of my build on FTE  But not here so I may have to fix that

I have a 1969 crew cab 4x4 with a divorced transfer case . I will be running a NV 4500 5 speed with over drive. I bought the tranny and adapters from Advanced Adapters. I researched using a ZF tranny but they are much longer than the T-18 and with the divorced transfer they are to long. The NV 4500 is only a few inches [2 or 3] longer than the T-18. On my truck I am building a 505 inch fuel injected torque monster FE and needed a stout trans to handle the torque . The NV 4500 was put into Dodges with the Cummins motors so it is good for the power and torque . For me the non ford box works and doesn't change the high boy look. Because of the power I have to run a heavy clutch and am putting in a hydraulic master cylinder with a hydraulic throw out bearing. There is a kit to modify the stock pedal assembly for the clutch master cylinder.

Congratulations on your success    even if it was a little painful!
I HOPEFULLY am about 2 months     ok maybe 3 months from firing up my 505 which is going in a 69 Crewcab highboy.  It is running a built NP205 with an NV4500 and disc brake Dana 60 front and rear. I was just about to order some of the copper/nickel line. Was it a hassle ? should I just go stainless ?
On my project there have been times when everything went well (as planned)    But there have been times when everything went to crap. Because I am doing a frame off Resto-Mod   so far I have just been able to quite working on what ever was fighting and move to something else.  Buttttt I know the time is coming when I will just have to fight my way through the problem of the moment.
Glad you can listen to motivating music while you continue to fight for progress!

Thanks Everyone
That was the one I was looking for  I just didn't scroll far enough.
I think the one I had seen before had been been edited down to just the FE stuff

Thanks for the reply
That is not the one I was looking for. There was one posted that had FE only info. I don't have enough knowledge to truly understand all of the info, but want to at least get at least some information.
I currently have a set of ported edelbrock heads that I have been told will have a high flow rate but may not be appropriate for my build. I also have a set of 428 CJ heads but am contemplating getting a different set of heads and just wanted to look at some of the differences in flow rate.

While reading some of posts here someone had posted a link that had flow data on many different heads both factory and aftermarket ported and unported.
I wanted to check it out again and can't find it.
Can someone point me in the right direction
Thanks

All the hard stuff is from the headers to the transfer case. From there back everything is smooth sailing . Mine got a little more complicated at the back because I put a rear mount 31 gallon tank back there and want duals all the way back.
I tried to post some pics from my phone but couldn't  wrong format. as soon as I figure out how to post pics I will

Not to Hijack the thread but - This post is in response to a post by HarleyJack17    I am building a 69 highboy crewcab with a 505 FE . Headers are ceramic coated Sanderson highboy headers with 428CJ bolt pattern 1-3/4 primary with 3" collector. I got a Flowmaster U-Fit kit and ran dual 3" pipes all the way back with a 2-1/2 H pipe crossover
I have been studying on how to do an H-Pipe exhaust on mine when I get to buttoning mine up...not a lot of room with 3 drive shafts, large t-case, x-members, E-brake cables, and a narrow frame.  I feel it can be done but I do not think it will look clean and be tucked up and safe as I would like.  Good luck, still would like to see some pics of the setup.
I can post some pics if anyone or HarleyJack is interested
