Pure genius Mr Conley - the BEST version of anything is ALWAYS of the simplest in design.  Randy M

I have a new Hayes 12-240 billet wheel.  Accepts 11" clutch.  Advertised as 40lb - actual weight is 38.  New through Summit at $442,  I'll take $300 shipped.  Randy M

Curious Brent, ruined because of internal pitting or from inaccurate sonic test?  Randy M

My longest trip home:  Once in the mid-'80s my fancy schmancy Accel Lazer (late B.E.I.) ignition system stranded me on busy Woodward Ave late on a Saturday night with a sudden engine shut down.  The coil wire spewed a constant high voltage arc when cranked - I could have tig welded with it.  Ten minutes of cool down restored triggering function - let's head for home!  Three-four minutes later: second verse same as the first - shutoff and coast to the shoulder.  I made it home but the 45 minute trip took over 4 hours.  That damned system is still on the shelf unrepaired - I hate it as much today as I did 35 years ago.  Randy M

TruTracs definitely have "slop" built into them.  I installed one in my brother-in-law's car - he was so convinced I had messed up the installation he later paid big $ to have it r&r'd and "checked" only to be told after the work that everything was fine - it's a characteristic of them.  I do like them though - they're tough and reliable.  Randy M

I recently bought some s/s valves from "Alex's Parts" and they're damned nice.  Randy, I assume that the family still runs the business because didn't Alex pass several years ago?  Randy M

A 1969 dollar is $7.17 today, so that oil pan was $313 in today's money and the intake was $832.  Randy M

Brent, I'd wager that the thrust plates you're torqueing to 55ft/lbs are steel and not OE iron?  I too overtorque my cam thrust bolts (25ft/lbs) but worry that too much could crack the iron plate at some point.  JMO.  Randy M

I once broke down a 390 that had notable trauma to only the rear main bearing and journal.  It also had the cam plug in backwards.  I theorized that soon after it's rebuild the camshaft carved what it had to have off the back of the plug and some of the "snarfles" found their way back through the cam bearing and into the main bearing.  The engine as a whole apparently took the hit because it was a high mileage piece when I tore it down.  Randy M

The lash factor in a solid roller's life is undeniable.  I've got a '70 Harley Sportster that I bought new.  They have four cams that utilize solid roller lifters.  Correct valve lash is set to ZERO with the engine cold - I think that's why it's still rollin' after 50 years.  Randy M

One of my favorite shows - after a few episodes it doesn't even register that it's a cartoon.  We ALL know someone who is just like one of the characters.  A guy I worked with was permanently known as "Dale Gribble", the real world twin of a cartoon character!  Randy M

As Mr. Conley has stated above, the 1x4 dual plane casting looks very much a (nearly) one off exercise.  To me it looks like an sohc/tunnel port hybrid.  Is it possible that Dove had the resources and skillset necessary to do that level of mold development?  Randy M

Greg, I believe you can chuck that bearing retainer up in a lathe and turn the flange o.d. to match that of the T10 size hole in the bell.  Randy M
