Private Classifieds / C6AE-R Cylinder Heads
« on: August 31, 2020, 10:29:52 AM »
Ready to bolt on and make some power. C6AE-R castings.
Stainless steel Cobra Jet size valves, hardened exhaust seats installed, dual springs set up for solid or hydraulic flat tappet cam.

These heads were on a completely rebuilt 428 short block that split a cylinder after only 500 miles of run time. I bought the heads and took them to the machine shop and had them magged, vacuum checked and a skim cut on the deck surface just to make sure they were perfectly flat.
These heads are in excellent condition and ready to be installed. They need nothing.

$650.00 plus shipping.

Only selling because the project changed and now needs aluminum heads.

Located in Eureka, CA. 95503

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Private Classifieds / Anyone Need a Rusty 1962 2V 352?
« on: August 22, 2020, 06:46:35 PM »
Came out of a '62 Mercury Monterrey 4 door. Ran when pulled 25 years ago. Supposedly was rebuilt shortly before being removed from the car. Don't know if it was bored or not. Was sitting outside under a tarp before I got it. Been in the garage since I've had it.

$100.00

Thanks.

Taken off the market.

Thanks.

Because I can't afford both.  :D
As it stands, I have a standard bore service replacement 428 block to work with. Have already purchased a set of Eagle "ESP" H-beam rods, main and rod bearings, and have a 1U crank done up and ready for use. Have not purchased pistons as of yet. Have a nice set of C6AE-Rs with dual springs and CJ valves purchased from a forum member who told me his 428 made 500 horsepower with these heads and a custom hydraulic flat tappet cam in the 230ish at .050 intake duration range. Probably only 500 miles on them.
I would like 500 horsepower. More would be cool if feasible but not at the expense of reliability.
If you guys think my goal would be attainable with what I already have, that would be awesome.
If not, would the TFS heads make that and then some on the 428" engine? Or, would a stroker kit get me there with the C6AE-Rs?
This engine will be going in a '67 Cougar, 4-speed Toploader, no power brakes or steering. Must run comfortably on 91 California pump gas.
Would like to keep the RPM to probably around 5500 for longevity sake.

Thanks for any input, guys, Hugely appreciated.

Hey guys. At what point are the base, non-reinforced main cylinder blocks considered not advisable to use? Street or race use.

Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Paint Marks on Back of Block
« on: January 30, 2020, 09:14:41 PM »
Hey guys, another "just curious" question. What do the paint marks on the back of the block signify? Behind the flexplate/flywheel area.
My 410 has what almost looks like a word but not quite.

Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Torque and Fuel Efficiency--Possible?
« on: September 25, 2019, 08:27:03 AM »
Hey guys! Just curious if this is a possibility or fantasy. I'd like to have a fun, torque-laden engine with excellent throttle response that also got "reasonable" fuel mileage.
You guys may recall this thread  http://fepower.net/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=7463.msg81768#msg81768
I sold my daily driver and this truck has become the DD.
Is there any possibility of getting a 410 to 15-16 MPGs without neutering the torque potential?

I'm right on the verge of building a 5.0 HO small block to drop in but if I can get the 410 to deliver the above figures, I'll bypass the 5.0.

As always, thanks for any advice/input.

FE Technical Forum / T45 5-Speed to FE--Possible?
« on: September 01, 2019, 08:54:40 AM »
Hey guys. Sitting here thinking about putting a manual transmission behind the 410, when I get it installed in the '89 F-150.
I have a 1999 Mustang GT Convertible 5-speed car sitting here. It's beat. The 4.6 has a rod knock due to an oil pump failure, and I got to thinking, hmmmm, I wonder...….
I know I'd have to do something about the speedo drive as the Mustang T45 uses a sensor to drive it rather than a cable.
However the biggest thing I think, would be the bell housing. It is part of the transmission if I'm not mistaken.
Heck, the shifter may come too far back as well, I don't know, I've not done any measuring.

You guys ever hear of someone installing one of these behind an FE?

The easiest way would probably be to install the 4.6, T45 and pedal assembly from the Mustang but I really want the 410.

Anyhow, too much work? Would it even be possible?

Thanks for any input.

FE Technical Forum / C4AE-A Block
« on: June 27, 2019, 09:18:36 PM »
My machinest has one sitting in his shop he'd sell me for $200.00. Has the extra rib in the main webs and unmachined cross-bolt bosses. It's at 4.08 now but the bores look good at a quick glance.

Would this block be worth it, strength wise, to build or just stick with the stock C7ME 410 block??

I think it would be pretty neat to find some 427 main caps and spacers and machine this thing up.

It would be nice if it would take a 4.13 bore but with the limited search I did, it appears this is just a 390 block with the added webbing and cross-bolt bosses.

What do you guys think?

Tried registering at 332-428 probably a month ago and it says I'm awaiting administrative approval?  ???
I'm registered with tapatalk now and have no use for that.  >:(

Thanks for any help.

Member Projects / 410 Street Build
« on: June 10, 2019, 10:22:38 AM »
Hello gentleman. I thought it might be kind of fun to document my 410 engine build slated to go into a 1989 F-150 2wd short bed.
This may take some time as most of my projects usually do.  :)
The goal is to have as much torque and throttle response as I can possibly get while keeping within:
A) Stock or near stock torque converter.
B) 3.08 rear end gears.
C) Good vacuum for power brakes.
D) Target of 400 horsepower.

Werbyford outlined a nice, basic build for me here http://fepower.net/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=7463.0 that I most likely will follow. However, I would really like to go with a hydraulic cam, if possible, that would run like the 270S.

Any and all input is greatly welcomed and encouraged.  :)

And since we all like pics, here's what I'm starting with.

Has anyone used the standard grocery getter, small intake port, 2.03 and 1.56 valve cylinder heads on a 410 or 428 mild street/performance build? If so, are you happy with the performance?
Seriously thinking of using the C7AE-A heads that came on my 410--without installing CJ valves.

Any input is yugely appreciated.  :)
