FE Technical Forum / Air cleaner snorkle
« on: March 23, 2020, 02:09:19 PM »
I have this 1970 pickup 360 oil bath air cleaner and it has a snorkel which looks very "musclecar-esque". Does anyone know if this is the same snorkel used on anything more valuable than a truck?

I assume we have all seen this on Bangshift? I think that's pretty cool.

FE Technical Forum / crank rant
« on: February 18, 2020, 02:57:24 PM »
So today I went to get two "390's"... one  is freshly machined but all apart and been sitting out in the weather (mostly wet) for six months. I got it home and of course the crank turns out to be a 2T... another damned 360 crank I have five to get rid of now. There is also a whole engine sitting there complete I have to go back with the engine hoist to get. It has a rear sump 4x4 pan and as I recall there 4x4's are all 360's and no 390's, is that correct?

Private Classifieds / 427 pistons and NOS Mickey Thompson rods
« on: February 09, 2020, 07:54:28 PM »
Set of new in the very old box Mickey Thompson aluminum rods for FE. Never been in an engine, taking these picture is the only time they've been out of this cool old box with the C-T Automotive address. $400

New set of JE standard bore domed 427 pistons, bought with the rods back in the mid 60's just one piston had ever been out of the box before taking them all out for these pictures. $350

Another set of Arias pistons for a custom stroker. These are for a .040" overbore and have a short 1.14" pin height and use early Chrysler Hemi size pins, .980". These were for an old M/T half inch stroker setup. $350

Seems like a cheap price, sixty grand! I wonder if this is the one that was for sale as a project in Hemmings for a year or more back in the 90's?

FE Technical Forum / FE's in LA
« on: October 29, 2019, 06:31:16 PM »
So i'm at LAX airport headed home and the internet is so fast these pix load instantly... unlike the past few days.

Lots of FE's to see at Bakersfield, this is the Falcon I saw at SEMA last fall, a dual quad FE
https://i.postimg.cc/1XMrvBS9/IMG-7274.jpg

And some of the selection of FE parts at the swap meet
https://i.postimg.cc/QtZLD8TF/IMG-7058.jpg

Then we went to the excellent Galpin Ford collection, the Peterson museum and today the Automobile Driving Museum near the airport.

The Galpin collection is closed to the public but the great guy in there (Chuck Allison) let us in. A whack of Ed Roth cars and more Ford GT's than you shake a stick at , a bunch of the oddest microcars i've seen and several old Galpin sponsored race cars. And a bunch more. Here's a couple FE's in one...
https://i.postimg.cc/1XLvcLtF/IMG-8989.jpg

As we saying ta ta, the old unrestored Mooneyes ramptruck (non-Ford though) showed up with the Mooneyes streamliner on the back.
https://i.postimg.cc/tg5mQSS0/IMG-9017.jpg

Peterson had a bunch of cars that were not on display last time I was there. The GT40 MarkIII is amazing to see. Just seven were built.
https://i.postimg.cc/tgcyG4mG/IMG-9167.jpg

The Shelby SuperSnake looks great... it's in a room with the Oly Baja winning Bronco and a Stroppe 64 Merc.

And then there was the Lions Museum we saw on Thursday...wow... pix of that later.

Watch a couple more minutes and Leonard Long also wins and so does Billy Glidden in his old Mustang... a good Ford showing for sure.

I am at Hot August Nights hobnobbing with Tommy T and his wife.
Not many cars here in Reno yet, hope that improves. But still there are loads of cool ones. Like...

TunnelPort Cobra

And this 70 Twister Cobra wasnot an FE (429SCJ) but it was nice and the story of the guy finding his dad's car that his widowed mother had to sell 30 years ago to raise he and he brothers alone was truly inspirational.

« on: June 16, 2019, 11:12:54 PM »
I thought I knew about old cars but was surprised to see a Ford Model S at a show and see a pole dragging the ground underneath it. It's called a Jill Poke... Google that... wait, you can't. The guy the writes the internet doesn't even know.
But since Teslas suffer from the rollback problem maybe the idea needs to be revived.

Car was just like this one, red too. But this doesn't have the Jill Poke hanging down.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GZ7gdZJUD4

Seems red was on most of the 3750 S's built between 1907 and 1909.

FE Technical Forum / 68 Police Interceptor 428 heads.
« on: March 08, 2019, 06:47:15 PM »
Is there anything at all different on the C8AE-H heads that were on the 428 PI compared to any old 390?

I have a pair with 8A4 and 8A6 date codes. The guy I got them off pulled the whole engine from a 68 Custom two door sedan... can't recall the last time i'd even seen one of those!... that he says was a old cop car. These have plugs in the Thermactor holes. So Californian cops i'd guess.
They have yellow valve springs with dampers. Standard two piece retainers.

He says the engine had an aluminum intake and was the main reason he bought the car. I thought 68's used the iron CJ intake but maybe this predates that?

Needless to say I wondered if he still has the 68 Custom but that went for scrap in the early 70's.

His story seems legit, in pulling apart these heads they have never been rebuilt and don't need anything but seals, hardly any carbon on the valves. Those heads are not worth a bunch but if these is something unique about the PoPo heads i'd be interested in knowing.

There was an article today in the local paper about this 75 F100 with a 360. 470,000 miles (in Nova Scotia no less!) and it's original owner.
