Any chance the distributor hold-down isn't super tight and you bumped the timing down a bit while installing the fan?

Everything I've seen from REF looks top notch. I like that those collectors angle inboard where the Hooker is straight back.

Thanks guys.
A slow project gives me plenty of time to start questioning parts choices. I'll plan on putting the 6376 to use.

I've read that a third version of the Hooker adjustable was stepped 1 7/8, 2, 2 1/8, but I've never seen a set.

I'd like it to go mid-sixes 1/8-mile and live. I haven't done that with an FE, so I'm making some guesses. But 700 ballpark is my goal depending on how much weight I can drop.

I have a set of 6376 Hooker adjustable headers, the 2" version of the 6375 (2.125).
Any idea how much power I'm leaving on the table with the 2" primaries?

I'd like for the build to live quite a while, so I'm okay bringing the peak RPM down some.

These are for a 4.375 x 4.375 Tunnel Port, single Holley 4500, 13.5:1-ish and E85.
Shooting for 3400 pound max, 4-speed, 29" tire, weekend 1/8 mile car, not a max effort racer.

The rest of the specs are tbd, as it's still early. I just hate to take hammer to car and pipes in mockup if these need to stay on the shelf for a smaller CI build.

No officer, we had no idea the Left Lane Reunion was the same weekend as our Right Lane Reunion.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 4 speed speedometer cable failures?
« on: July 07, 2020, 10:14:13 PM »
It doesn't *sound* like the case here, but a surprisingly common cause of failure is a weak engine ground.

During starting, the difference is made up anywhere the current can find it, including the speedo cable and housing. Even if it doesn't kill them right away, the heat can shorten the life.

I've seen some negative reviews regarding the quality of the Canadian parts. I have no direct experience, but what I read did put me off.

I have the 68/69 Crites bumpers and they're of the good quality (not show quality out of the box, but quite nice) I've always received from them. Crites sells a ram air 68/69 hood, but I've not looked closely at one in person.

I hope someone can point you to a good source. I'd like to eventually have doors too, if possible.

They didn't hide anything from non-facebook accounts (I know some businesses/people do) including a link to their main website. I think it's just an instant way of letting the few thousand people who follow their page that a new product is ready.

Great looking parts btw, and I hope they can generate enough interest to continue production.

Ugh. I bought a highland green 68 GT fastback, J code, 4-spd, posi, drove it home and put the drivetrain in a 64 Fairlane, then traded the body for a 390. Different times.

One group did a little pay-per-view race a few days ago with just a minimal safety and support crew. It's certainly not a full solution or long-term fix, but I hope fans will step up and support whatever stop-gap ideas their local small businesses can put together. I don't want to see anyone go up against their town/state/whatever and lose, either.

It's not very exciting to watch your local track on a monitor, but I sure don't want to see them go under.

I figured it has been hell for drywall guys or anybody who uses even lower-end particulate masks, too. I bet anything that even looks like protection is in high demand.

I talked to my dad earlier, and he found one unused N95 in his shop. We had just loaded up on nitrile gloves before this all hit, though, so maybe we can do some trading.  :o

Same. I've never had a moment's trouble from a Unilite setup, and I love the look of the old Mallory distributors.

ARP does advise that their black oxide process is, "a short-term rust preventative only and any part exposed to the atmosphere will show signs of rust in a matter of days."

No doubt there are more durable processes for parts intended for use in corrosive environments, but you've already matched ARP at their game, Jay.  ;D

That's in NO way intended as pushback against your advice on conversion, Drew. I learn something practically every time you post.

Thanks, guys!

We're all on the same page...I'm just looking to (possibly) take the Unilite conversion one step further and drop in the shaft, too. Easy enough to check, but I wondered if there might be a particular Unilite distributor, if any, that's more likely to be a drop-in fit.

I like that idea about using a point set as a trigger, too. I may have to try that on another project.
I want to take this one racing, so I'd like to drop in as many new/modern parts as possible while keeping the old tach-drive body.
