FE Technical Forum / Re: Size Your Own Pushrod Kit
« on: January 21, 2019, 01:28:57 PM »
I cut a half-inch out of a stock pushrod and bought a proper-sized length of all-thread rod. Tapped an inch-plus inside each piece of pushrod and screwed-in a piece of the threaded rod with a couple of locknuts in the middle...

I was literally on the edge of my chair at this point.

Typical setup, but on an off-brand...

The bean can in the upper right is the tach-drive limiter.

Not sure if it's the case here, but it's one way to get to a mechanical rev limiter.

It sounds like I've found my people. Can't put a name and face together to save my life, but as a tech I could always instantly remember a life story once I saw the car. "Oh, no more DPFE code, I hope. How's the herb garden coming along?"

I'm hoping to make it this year. I definitely won't have a car together, but I can't think of a better place to get inspired to put an FE back on the track.

Same. My dad has a 2001, and I've had to...put brakes on it. Not knocking any other brand, but they did something right.
I only get to bring the F350 when more traction is in order.

Wondering if I'm the only one who's taped over the airhorns and blown a few cigar puffs down the PCV tube chased by a little shop air...
Not that there aren't better ways. Generally just a trickle of propane will pinpoint the spot.

That is a handy thing, I already use a 45 degree outlet, I'll get one in before I start drilling :)  might work well for the coolant temp sensor.  Thanks for the tip!

The down side is they made these in a variety of threads/sensor/hose sizes, so it's easy to end up with a drawer full of also-rans.

In the sales brochures I have, Ford was referring to the 289s as Challenger and FEs as Thunderbird at least up until 1967. I didn't remember it either. Nor that they called the 427 the "Cobra" option in 68.

Edit to say: Oops, nope. Ford DID refer to the 289s as Challenger along the way, although Mercury was using the Cyclone name.

Here's the '68. I didn't realize they kept the exact profile from 66-77, but it makes sense.

I'm running late with the introduction, but I can already see what a helpful group this is. Shannon from Alabama here, where a "full eighth" is a long track.

I'm finally getting around to my long-neglected first Ford, a '68 Torino GT convertible. I've always considered it a boring late-model, so earlier Fairlanes and Galaxies got all the attention.
It's currently down to the shell and ready for some floor pan work and soul searching about rear tire size. Ford solved the problem of clearance for stowing the convertible top by literally (and unceremoniously) crushing the original tubs, leaving a wrinkled mess with padding glued on top.

Absolutely no chance the block-to-head dowels are hiding in the bolt bucket?
