Hey Randy,
Just checking if by chance you had the right part # for the Cometic head gasket. I will replace it as I have one on order.

Thanks for the ride Larry! It’s been many years since I’ve heard a B model air starter. My first job was at a gas station that Allegheny Freight Lines fueled their trucks. They were all B Model Mack’s and we lived right across the street from the station which was open 24 hrs.  Nothin like a 3 AM wake up from an air starter....

FE Technical Forum / Re: Drag Springs
« on: March 23, 2021, 10:31:33 AM »
This is never an easy thing to do. Just my experience from going from iron block to all aluminum engine. Had original big block springs and when I switched engines the weight difference looked like I didn’t have an engine in the car. I had a friend that ran a Drag Fairlane and used Moroso springs but car sat to high. I remember him cutting them and after about 6 months it sat too low.
I actually weighed the car front end and went to the Moog catalogue to try and figure what to purchase. Still was a toss up but I went with 289 car with A/C. Installed the springs thinking it would be lower- WRONG. I knew it needed time to settle so for two solid weeks I would bounce the front of the car as long as I could physically do it as long as I could do it. It did come down but I still wasn’t happy with front height. Ended up with 1/2 coil cut off. I have to agree with Jay about A/C springs I should have used similar spring close to rating without A/C and may not have had to cut

FE Technical Forum / Re: All things FE Headers.
« on: November 25, 2020, 09:57:35 AM »
I have used 3 different sets of headers on my FE 1967 Fairlane. Hooker 6375’s, Kustom Headers - # 3-4 and6-7 cross under the oil pan to the opposite side and Crites. I never could get the Hooker 6375’s to fit and ended up selling them to RJ Sledge . The Kustom headers would work with a T pan where the Crites would not. I have since purchased a set of REF’s but have not tried to fit them yet. Thanks for the oil filter adaptor info. Was not aware of that issue with the REF’s.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 6an ptfe fuel line big enough?
« on: October 08, 2020, 07:11:46 PM »
I would certainly try it first. I went thru the same process with my car. Read quite a few articles and visited webs sites that had answered about the fuel line size debate. My car is 750 hp with 2 750’s and didn’t want to spend money on all the -8 lines and fittings. What finally convinced me to try the stock 3/8” line to the front of the car and -6 to the regulator and fuel log was an article by Don Carlton with his pro stock car. Now I realize pro stock in that era is like S/S today. The jist of the article was Don used a stock fuel line and not a huge electric fuel pump. All his competitors told him he was not getting the full potential out of his engine due to fuel supply. Don finally gave in and spent quite a sum of money to Replace his full system with the large lines and humongous fuel pump. The end result for Don was zero difference...
My fuel pump is a Holley black past a Fram canister fuel filter thru 3/8 stock fuel line to -6 to fuel regulator -6 to fuel log and - 6 to carbs.  Car in good weather runs 9.70’s @ 138mph. Someday I may try all the big lines just to prove the point. All cars are different so your results may differ- lol

I use the bottom hole and have had them all over the place as far as pre load. Finally just have them touch spring and half turn of preload with me in the car. Shocks are very firm using Viking D/A. Bias ply 9x29’s Leave at 3750 with clutch setup. As everyone said each car has a different personality due to torque/ hp range, clutch setup, shocks, tire pressures, track etc. etc....

Jim,
I’ll try to get some for you. You can probably make it smaller but I remember getting frustrated and just wanted to get it done. That was 20 years ago....   Rods are very close to the left side of floor pan/ tunnel.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Anyone use these header gaskets? Flat out
« on: April 18, 2020, 07:50:23 AM »
I used the Summit version of what the Flatout or SCE copper embossed header gaskets. I probably would have used the name brand but I was at a Ford collectors private museum and the care taker mentioned he used the Summit brand with very good success plus they were slightly less expensive. They have worked very well for me.
Yes, Ford shock tower cars and headers test your dexterity, imagination and patience. Once you do one of these cars everything else is easy to put headers on.

I'm guessing 649...

Glad you got it back together, it will  produce some good power
