FE Technical Forum / Re: Advertised VS real world connecting rod weight
« on: December 03, 2023, 04:14:33 PM »
It was the scale. Apparently time for a recalibration!. I have a spare so I pulled it out, tossed the rod on it 834.7 grams. Mystery solved. Thanks for the input fellas. I appreciate it. Cheers!

These are Molnar rods and even going on the website they advertise 834 grams total for these rods but my scale does not lie. They are 934.2 total weight. We will see what the fixture weight says VS advertised. Thanks again!

That's an excellent question Barry.Talk about old age, I didn't occur to me to check.I just got the rods today and was reading the specs on the box and tossed a whole rod on the scale and it was 934 grams and my mind was , where did the extra 100 grams come from. I was just curious if this was a moot question and there was a quick answer like , they don't weight them with the rod bolts or something. I will break out the fixture tomorrow and see what it says. Thanks for the response.

How do manufacturers come up with the advertised weight of connecting rods?. I know what common sense tells me how it works. I have a rod fixture for balancing rods and an excellent digital scale. On the manufacturers box it reads recip/small end(273.2 grams), rotating/big end (560.8) total rod weight 834 grams. Put the rod itself on the scale 934 grams. Where is the additional 100 grams coming from. I'm missing something. Thanks

I have used brake fluid mixed with auto transmission fluid to remove corroded pistons in a rusty block with good success. It might be worth a try!.

Good Deals! / Stangman..,.. excellent seller

Just a quick Big Kudos about Stangman. My experience was as good as you could ask for. I inquired about his ad for parts. Rather than a blind "thank you, send me the cash he made the effort to contact me( by a phone call, who does that anymore?), make sure it was what I needed, informed me of any possible drawbacks, offered me an easy out if it did not work for me. He shipped the parts without even having any proof of payment knowing I had not yet sent payment. It reminds of buying parts 20 years ago when we all still had trust, basically.... before the internet. A huge thanks out to him!!. I would recommend anyone to buy from him!

Just want to post a shout out for Stangman. He shipped parts I agreed to purchase before I even had the opportunity to pay for them. We did talk over the phone (a rarity these days). He went above the expected standard to explain part condition, offered an exit if I was not comfortable purchasing the as advertised parts. I miss the honest people like this in our hobby. He was a pleasure to do business with and I very much appreciate his passion for our hobby. Thank you again Stangman!!.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Opinions on lifter base marking, run it or not?
« on: September 11, 2023, 04:31:14 PM »
I don't know the manufacturer of the lifters. You cannot feel anything like an edge, as if a flash playing has let go. The pictures are a little deceiving. This is a spot that had a very small amount of flash rust from sitting on the shelf. When the rust residue was cleaned off the difference in appearance showed up. What's your opinion on using a new set off lifters on a used/broken in camshaft?. I appreciate all opinions. Thank you

I'm looking for opinions on a bit of a strange mark on the base of one previously run lifter. This can and lifters came out of a running engine with no issues. It had some very light surface rust on it but when cleaned off it left this mark. You can't feel it and it isn't where the lifter "rides" the camshaft line. What are your thoughts?. Run it or not??. Thanks
