Looking for FE block blueprints. I found this page on the old forum where they were shared at one time, but those picture links have all expired. Did anyone save them? Can you post them up?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Power Steering Reservoir Question
« on: February 17, 2020, 05:59:53 PM »
I've got myself worried about a power steering issue and I'm hoping somebody can tell me whether I'm right or wrong for thinking it's a problem:

Background, my '62 Galaxie will have a Borgeson power steering box and a hydraboost brake booster.

Originally I had called Lee Power Steering looking for a pump retrofit and was told by them that a Galaxie style pump will be plenty and that one of their products wouldn't be necessary for what I'm doing. After this phone call I bought the power steering pump below, I plan to pull it apart and detail it. Now that everything is here and I'm looking at it, I've gotten to worrying about the reservoir being below the height of both the brake unit and the Borgeson unit. Am I going to have fluid level issues? Most '63 Galaxies have the reservoir remote mounted on the drivers apron, am I going to need to ditch the reservoir I have and pick up a remote mount style? I'm really wanting to use this style because it's quite a bit cleaner.

Additional question: will this pump create too much pressure if run at 6000rpm or does it have a bypass? Do I need to get a smaller drive pulley?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / '60 Starliner Suspension/Frame Detailing
« on: February 03, 2020, 11:53:53 AM »
Wondering if anybody has a good reference for suspension and frame component detailing? Need to know the proper colors everything needs to be. If you've ever seen a forum or some sort of chronicle of somebody doing a real accurate and thorough job on a '60, can you steer me there?

We found an old magazine article showcasing a '63 R-code concourse detail job. At this point, that's our reference.

Private Classifieds / '66 Fairlane 390
« on: January 29, 2020, 04:10:36 PM »
I'm looking to sell this '66 Fairlane. We have owned it for roughly 5 years. It was intended to be a project of ours but there are plenty of other things to get done and not enough lifetime left to do all of them.

The car is factory red with red interior, 390, auto trans (shift on the column), 500 trim level. Both front fenders have endured a hit or two, the hood was replaced at some point, but otherwise the body is in fairly good shape. We have some pieces of documentation in the glove box that came with the car, the car was sold in Colorado and has always been in Colorado, so it's a fairly dry car. I have a picture below of one area of rust I found on it. I intend to get it backed up onto the lift to take a look under it, just need a couple willing friends to stop by and help me get it up there.

All in all, it's a very complete car, this is the reason we ended up with it in the first place. All the miscellaneous parts that you end up hunting for are all on the car, it's 100% left alone. Odometer shows just over 80,000 miles. I'd be willing to bet that the engine has never been gone through (but couldn't know for sure without pulling it apart). I think with a day or two worth of effort you could have it running and moving around under it's own power. It ran previous to us storing it in the barn. Clean title I should add.

The negative news is: It sat outside for years and years. The paint is very sun damaged, the interior is very sun damaged. In reality, upon restoration they are all parts that would likely be replaced/restored/repainted anyhow so maybe it isn't so bad afterall.

Price is $6,000 firm. Car is at my place in Fort Lupton, Colorado. I'd prefer to sell to someone on a site like this first before I resort to selling on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. I'm going to continue to do some TLC on it, like cleaning up the engine compartment. I'll update pictures on this posting as I get better ones, just wanted to get it out there.

FE Technical Forum / Current Pulse on Dove Mfg
« on: December 31, 2019, 10:31:03 AM »
Has anyone had an experience with Dove recently? I have talked to David about producing a set of TP heads and a 3x2 Tunnelwedge that I've been looking for but haven't been able to get my hands on. Sounds like he's willing to produce any of their past offerings. My problem is....I want to have some confidence that it's going to get done if money is exchanged. Anybody done this lately and had good luck?

Within the past few weeks I was able to get a single stall conditioned room in the barn set up to work on some things this winter. I'm admittedly pretty fussy about cold weather.

We have been collecting parts for the Starliner for about 2 years now it seems like. Its a hipo 352 car, black with black interior. With help from people on here I was able to locate the correct engine that actually date codes with the car very well. I will be taking all the windows out and stripping out the rest of the remaining interior. We'll take it to the blaster, and then over to a metal working shop. We visited the guys shop a couple weeks ago, he is incredibly talented, we'll only be using about a tenth of his ability with what this car needs (trunk floor and some body patches). https://tinelement.com/ The low drag jaguar on his site he built from scratch.

This is going to be a long-term deal and I'm fully prepared for it to take a while. Trying to put it back together as nicely and as correct as our skill allows us. Still searching for the dang carb and the air cleaner lid!! I've had some good leads, but haven't found anybody willing to part ways with the stuff they have. Any help with that would be much appreciated.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Need Ford Truck Knowledge - 69 F250
« on: September 25, 2019, 05:34:32 PM »
I was driving to a job site today and noticed an F-250 Ranger on the side of the road for sale. Stopped to take a look, the closer I got the better it looked. Super super original truck, original paint, body is straight as an arrow, maroon with black interior. I called the number on the for sale sign and asked the guy if he was OK with me popping the hood, I was really hoping to find an FE under the hood. I found a 429/460 sitting it in.

I started scratching my head wondering how the truck got a 429/460 in it. Everything looked entirely original. I don't believe they ever offered that truck with a 429 option? I'm 100% sure the truck is a '69. Did somebody swap a 429 into the truck at some point and just do a really good job?

And also the air cleaner for that matter.

Part# is C0AE-9510-AA, Holley list# is 2112.

Here's some good pictures of what I need:

Little by little we continue to collect parts for the 1960 Starliner project. The carb and the air cleaner are a pain in the butt.

Member Projects / '62 Galaxie Progress Report
« on: May 28, 2019, 01:07:59 PM »
It's been a while since I've posted anything about this car, I've been gaining some traction on it lately, so here's an update.

As a reminder, here's how the car looked when I got it out of the storage barn last spring. Car has been owned by my family since either '93 or '94 and parked in this barn about a week after my uncle bought it. I was 5 at the time, but everyone says the car smoked like a freight train. I didn't even try to start it, just yanked the engine out. Car has original paint and original interior, 100% bone stock with the exception of an 8-track player, some speakers hanging under the dash, and a couple gauges.

I've done quite a bit of cleaning on it, but this weekend is the first time that the car has been out in the sun since I got the paint all buffed out and cleaned up.

Gear Vendor Toploader showed up about a month ago. This install isn't as straightforward as I wished it was. I have a picture below of the mounting ears with the mount bracket held up to it, the ears are the wrong width. I'll be playing with the mount to get that right. The shifter also wasn't in the right position, David Kee already fixed that though. I found a push/pull switch from an MG that I modified to fit a Ford cable pull overdrive handle to, when pulled it should turn the OD unit on.

The middle gauge here was my Grandpa's. He had it installed in his '63 Galaxie, and then later installed in his '67 Mustang. The gauge was laying in a random box of old parts, I decided to incorporate it into the car. Found matching oil pressure, water temp, and tach (the tach is being re-worked by Williamson's Instruments to allow use of the new Pertonix Ignitor III ignition). The gauge panel I'm going to try to engine turn to match the dash, found some cratex engine turning sticks for the mill so we'll see how that goes.

Parts have started to accumulate in the basement, here's a couple of the more fun things. I think I've decided on installing the 390 badges on the side of the car over the 428 ones (it will be a stroked 428). I don't completely like how the red clashes with the paint, but that is what it came with...

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 64 Fairlane - 12.50 Class Win
« on: May 14, 2019, 12:59:49 PM »
I think everyone on here likes pictures of stuff....so here's some. My uncle has been racing for quite a few years now but I believe this is his first time dragging home a trophy and check. Pueblo had a "heads up" event a few weekends ago, he entered in the 12.50 breakout class. The car generally runs anywhere from 12.35 to 12.50 depending on weather and condition so the 12.50 breakout class was perfect for the car. Lots of new Hellcats, Mustangs, etc.

Private Classifieds / SOLD - HEH-CG Toploader
« on: April 22, 2019, 08:46:01 AM »
I bought this transmission from a local guy, cleaned and painted it to stick in my '62. Ended up going the Gear Vendors route and got a whole setup from David Kee. I was intending on taking this to a transmission shop to be refreshed, but didn't get around to it before deciding not to run it.

If you look up the tag#, this is meant for a '66 Galaxie 428. Big input, close ratio gear set. Would be good for an early Galaxie T-10 to Toploader conversion (as I was going to do).

I'm in Denver. Can ship this out if necessary. Should be getting the new transmission this week so I could steal the packaging for the new one to send in.

Price is $900, plus shipping.

Private Classifieds / Hipo 352 Intake on Ebay

Saw this come up today. The guy has it listed wrong, it's actually a 1960 352 hipo intake. Good snag for the right person looking for one.

Take a look at the attached picture. We received this from David Kee this morning. Apparently the shifter position is rotated on the case. Not sure if previous generations were like this because David seemed somewhat surprised in his email that they did this.

I believe we can modify the shifter handle to account for it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has been through this. I'd like to see/hear what you did to make it work.

If we manipulate the shifter handle right at the base and offset it, do you think it will affect how it shifts? Might be a little weird?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Fuel Pressure Regulator Ideas
« on: February 28, 2019, 11:18:34 AM »
I've been dreaming up some ideas for the fuel line between fuel pump and carb for my '62. I ran into this style of regulator and wondered if anybody has any experience with them? The manufacturer is Malpassi. Looks like they are typically used for VW's and some other Italian brands.

Was thinking I would mount it in the same position a fuel filter canister for a 2x4 or 3x2 setup. I'm just not sure if this thing will flow enough? I can't find any flow ratings on them. They sell them with 6AN fittings, which is the line size I was targeting.

If you know of a similar style fuel pressure regulator let me know.

FE Technical Forum / Block Hardness Testing
« on: December 04, 2018, 01:00:31 AM »
I watched a deal today where a guy was doing an "engine block shootout", testing a bunch of different variations of Nissan engine blocks to show which one of the factory blocks was probably best to scoop up if preparing for a performance build. He was using a sonic tester, but also a hardness tester. Sonic testing is fairly common but I had never seen hardness testing done in this fashion before.

It got me wondering if anyone has done such a thing with FE blocks. I'm sure someone has, I just haven't run into it yet. Makes me curious if there is a significant variation of hardness in FE castings or if there are any patterns that develop year to rear, plant to plant, by engine size, etc.

Another curiosity of mine is whether or not more hardness is really better. In the video I watched, the guy basically made a blanket conclusion that the larger the cylinder wall thickness and the harder the block, the better. Harder materials are often more brittle though......

This is the video I'm referring to. In case anybody nerds out (like me) hard enough to watch a video about Nissan inline 6 engines.
