FE Technical Forum / Harvey Ford Fairlane - Looking for Info!
« on: February 28, 2024, 06:22:50 PM »
Curious if anybody has more pictures or any history on this car? I have only ever found 4 pictures of this particular car, it must not have run many events. This is the best photo I can find of it.

FE Technical Forum / Pictures from PRI
« on: December 09, 2023, 03:47:36 PM »
For those that didn't attend...

There wasn't a ton of FE stuff represented (as usual), however, we did get to stop by the Trick Flow booth, got to meet Barry R in person, and ran into some FE powered cars in one of the main hallways.

We quizzed the Trick Flow rep about 1x4 manifolds coming back. He assured us that they are in the works. The foundry those intakes were being produced at went under and they had to switch foundries, which meant re-tooling for the new foundry's needs.

Not FE, but definitely SOHC inspired...this was in the Indy Power Products booth. 5.0 Coyote adapters and valve covers that make it look old and cool.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Holley Sniper Ignition Signal - Need Advice
« on: September 20, 2023, 02:21:23 PM »
I have the Sniper unit installed in our Cougar, I currently have the ignition signal wire landed on a wire that's hot all the time just to get the car running. I need to find a source that is hot while the key is both on and cranking. The only place I can think of is the coil wire, but there are warnings all over Holley's manual not to use the coil because of interference issues.

Does anybody have a better idea where to grab switched power from? I have read guys online that have used a relay and used both ignition switch wires to trigger it, but that sounds like a wiring mess I don't want to get into.

Private Classifieds / NOS Medium Riser Heads
« on: August 25, 2023, 09:45:53 AM »
I posted these on our website this morning, FYI. We're slowly going through parts and purging stuff that we never see ourselves using.

These heads were intended for a full NOS 427 engine, we have an original cam, block, intake. The intent was to build a factory correct engine and see what numbers it produced. The project sat in the machine shop for wayyyy too long and the idea died.

We're going to be doing a little parts thinning, selling some parts that we will never get around to needing. Now that we have this website it's fairly simple for me to add parts to the "garage sale" page of the website.

FE Technical Forum / R-Code Galaxie Air Filters
« on: May 18, 2023, 11:43:49 AM »
We have started to receive some boxes of these filters so I figured it's time to show everyone what we've been working on. At the PRI show in December we ran across a guy making air filters for the Hemi guys. Almost walked past him but the thought crossed my mind, maybe he can make the Galaxie ones everyone has been needing. We sent him a correct R-code air filter, he priced it up, and the price was reasonable enough to move forward.

We also had him make a 3" tall version because the only 3" tall oval filter we can find right now is a K&N.

To make purchasing/shipping easier, we have been setting up a website. Honestly that part of the operation has been much more work than getting the filters made. The site should be set up by the end of the month. I'll let everyone know when we get that live and we can start selling/distributing these things.

FE Technical Forum / Experience With 1-Piece Rear Main Seal?
« on: April 18, 2023, 10:10:21 AM »
Our local engine builder turned us on to these 1-piece rear main seals.

You can find them here about 3/4 of the way down this page.
https://www.roushcompetitionengines.com/performance-parts/

We tried it Sunday, installed the crank in the block, torqued all the main caps. When we went to spin the crank it would hardly budge. We got out the torque gauge, it was taking right about 40 lb-ft to spin the crank. Sat there and scratched our heads, all of the main clearances looked perfect when measured. I started unbolting the caps, starting with the rear, and when got the rear cap bolts loose all of a sudden the crank freed right up. It was now taking less than 5 lb-ft to spin.

The crank is a Scat steel crank. The dimension of the crank at the seal matches every other crank we have in the shop, so I don't believe the crank is too big of diameter at that seal.

I asked an engine builder friend, he said yes he's used one (not on an FE engine), and it made the crank hard to turn so they threw it out and used a common rear main seal.

My question, has anybody on here used one and had luck doing so?? I'd like to run the seal because it seems like a better concept, but currently it's not working out so great.

FE Technical Forum / Olds power swapped for FE
« on: February 24, 2023, 09:52:05 AM »
Check this out. It made the car 1000% more valuable in my opinion. The Shelby Series 1 cars were originally powered by a 4.0L Oldsmobile engine......not sure why they did that? It's now a 750hp stack injected FE.

Private Classifieds / Edelbrock 427 MR Heads
« on: May 31, 2022, 11:38:56 AM »
We are going through the mezzanine of the shop and will be unloading some parts that we cannot foresee ever needing for any of the projects we are intending on completing.

First to go is a set of bare Edelbrock #6008 427 MR Heads. These have never been installed on anything, just sat on the shelf since the early 2000's. They are untouched, just as they came out of the box, the only wear is some marks from moving them place to place. Price is $1500 shipped. I'm posting here first prior to posting up on the FE Facebook page.

Member Projects / '68 Cougar Sniper Install
« on: April 11, 2022, 10:23:12 AM »
The weather is turning nicer here in Colorado and I have gained back my motivation..... decided last week to clear the drag car project out of my workshop while it sits and patiently waits for the engine block machining to be finalized. The '68 Cougar will take it's place for a Holley Sniper install.

This car is the first car I ever worked on. My uncle flew me out to Colorado from Omaha on my summer break between 2nd and 3rd grade. We took the car around for a drive, got it back in the garage and dumped all the fluids, and spent the week pulling the 390 2 barrel engine out of it. It's a fond memory of mine. I love any chance to work on this car now.

History on the car: Ever since it has been completed it has always been the most temperamental car we own. My aunt calls it "Christine". It's like Eleanor, have to talk to it and tell it to cooperate with you. I think a large portion of the problem is under-hood heat issues. A few summers ago I put a very good electric fan setup on it and that helped quite a bit. The next step is to get one of these Sniper units on it and have the Sniper manage the fan controls. I'm also hoping that accurate fueling can help out engine heat as well. Running new large fuel lines wont hurt either.

The engine is a 427 w/ 428 crank (452"), Edelbrock ported heads, blue thunder dual plane intake. Transmission is a C6 (I don't think this helps with heat issues either).

I will need some help from you guys once I get everything complete and ready to run. There are some of you on here (like Ross) that seem very savvy with the setup of these things and I'll need some guidance. I have never done anything that wasn't carbureted.

Member Projects / '68 Mustang Coupe Drag Car
« on: April 20, 2021, 10:08:43 AM »
We finally have enough done on the car that I figured I would share some pictures. This car came from Richie Pauley in California. I had heard that he may be interested in selling it, I spoke with him 2-3 times over the course of a couple years and he was finally ready to let it go. Bought it as a roller, without engine or trans. It was run in NHRA stock class, B/SA. We will not use it for that initially but may get back to that over the course of a few years. For now we're trying to run with a local group of nostalgia racers. The first engine that will go in it is the tunnelport that Blair recently built for us, it was intended for a Galaxie but will go in this for now. We'll replace the wonky dual plane intake and install a single plane 2x4.

Right now the only modifications we are making to the car are purely for looks. Removing the front fender emblems and adding GT badges, adding GT fog lights, putting on C-stripes, and painting the black cobra jet stripe up the hood. We also had a friend make some "Cobra Jet" script stickers for the rear quarters.

FE Technical Forum / Gauging Interest - Tunnelport Heads
« on: January 19, 2021, 11:15:01 AM »
We have been talking with John Bamber and Dave Bamber over the last several months to work on filling “holes” in FE product availability. John reads this forum quite a bit but doesn’t post very often at all. One of the ideas that has come up most frequently is Tunnelport heads. To us it seems that there is a need for replacement heads, and at the same time we believe there is a lot of un-tapped potential in the TP design. I personally believe that there are quite a few more intake manifolds in circulation than heads available to bolt them on.

Here is the current design criteria: Maintain all standard TP architecture (bolt-on use of factory intakes, factory valve covers, factory exhaust flanges). Modern high efficiency combustion chamber. Slightly canted and angled valves with individual shaft rocker arms to maximize flow.

With this design the project should be able to accomplish two goals simultaneously. 1) Make tunnelport replacement heads available. 2) Make serious levels of horsepower when asked for.

At this point the project is pushing forward, but we would like to gauge everyone’s interest to make sure we are on the right track with this one. John and Dave have been fairly exclusively tied to the high boost alcohol tractor and 385 series hemi truck pull industry for decades, but I’m happy that they are starting to meddle in the FE world.

Here are a couple links to get you more familiar with the Bambers....

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Harvey Ford Colors
« on: January 08, 2021, 04:31:24 PM »
I'm curious if anyone on here knows what colors the Harvey Ford cars were typically painted. I see that 80% of their cars were gold and blue, do you know the specific colors? My closest guess is the Gold is "Anniversary Gold", and the Blue is "Brittany Blue"??
