Non-FE Discussion Forum / race gas
« on: March 04, 2024, 04:20:20 AM »
my engine was running fine-428 yesterday. i put 5 gallons of 110 race gas in it,cranked it,it was fine. got back in it later and it started flooding and the float bowl wont adjust,it just keeps on flooding and it pours out the sight plug no matter if you lower the bowl. could this race gas be bad or just happened because of something else.car did set for 6 or 8 months for other repairs.

back in 83 i bought a set of hookers at Nickels speed shop for 220 dollars and the sign outside said headers sbc 39 dollars. the guy at the counter felt sorry for me and let me have them for an even 200. i bought a streetmaster, moroso breather, holley valve covers ,a mallory dp dist..and an old isky solid full race cam with pushrods and rockers.that was all i could do at the time being an average guy. i used to set around and wish they would come out with some alu heads or something else good for the fe

What happens if you put some real force into the shift?  Like using your Kung Fu grip?  Like you are channelling Ronnie Sox?  If it grinds, then your rings are not adequately gripping the gear cone.  That could be wear or lubricant related, or even a build flaw.  If it goes in without a grind, then you need to work on your Kung Fu grip.
it dont grind,im getting older, maybe i do need to work on getting my kung fu grip back.i have huge hands, used to be able to open any jar.i will get more serious and see if it helps too.

i put steel bushings in my shifter and that seems to help quiet a bit.maybe the plastic bushings were binding under pressure.not perfect but better.i will put a chain on the driver side to limit movement, thanks

I have got 2 cracked manifolds on my 73 f250, 360 ,4 speed.my friend at the muffler shop said he would fix them,i have a good set to put on,BUT he said i had to put new motor mounts on or they would break again.i was wondering if that is the case.the motor mounts are old and cracked, but not broke,is motor mounts usually he problem,or are the exhaust manifolds  just bad to crack?

« on: January 21, 2024, 02:11:57 PM »
428Marauder Not sure how handy you are but it is not really a small job to fit the blockplate gearbox converter and flexplate need to come off. Some one here should be able to give you some starter measurement's to check and make sure there is nothing else going on. Best to check all that when you have it apart and you can check as you put it back together. Or ask you mechanic to check for you.

I wonder, if you cut the center out so it would slip by the crank, you might be able to move the trans back past the dowel pins and slide it in there.....
i did that one time and it did work

i hope your not sucking the bottom hose shut on acceleration.i had that problem one time, every time i drove it,it got hot, when i slowed or stopped it got better.i revved it up with my hand on the carb and i saw the bottom hose suck flat when i revved it up.i put a spring in the bottom hose and it never happened again.
