I breezed through a lot of this so forgive me if it's already been suggested...  Would it be possible to machine the pushrod tube as part of the port as opposed to placing a tube in after?  There would be a lot of benefits doing it that way.

My chemistry teacher showed us calcium carbide instead of sodium.  He spent a week shooting rubber stoppers through the drop ceiling tiles.

Good to know.  Appears to be a solid block for a project but nothing to get too excited about.

Maybe it's not even a 390.  Some bore charts list a 361 with 4.047" bore, could be that?  What's the deal with the two bolt engine mounts?

4.050", measured on the top edge with calipers.  Assuming it should be 4.052" if it were clean and measured with something more appropriate.

A while back I bought a complete 390 for the block to use as a place holder.  The other day I picked up another nice block and started looking into the casting numbers.  Nothing special about the recent block C6ME-A.  The block I have in the car for mock up has no casting number on it.  Date code 4c27, it has extra webbing around the main journals, bosses cast in the block for cross bolts and two bolt engine mounts.  Any ideas on what this may be?  Just a regular 390 block?

They would be easy to make for someone with a lathe.  I'd imagine you'd have to measure and make each one to fit.

What is the gig with Blair's CNC ported iron heads?  I don't remember any of the build details except 600 hp. 390" at EMC.

Brent seems to have the most experience with these, hopefully he'll chime in.

You can look into stitching it back together too.  I've seen this done before it's pretty neat.  There are a few places that do it, below is just an example.

Yes C6AE is correct, identifying the type of thread/sealing method is key.  I'm pretty sure Ford factory plugs were 1 1/2" NPT (National Pipe Thread) for what that's worth.  No matter what, putting some thread schmutz for lubrication and to help seal can't hurt.

Frank is right, aluminum on aluminum threads can be a bugger.  It might be a good idea to find a pipe dope with teflon in it.  I would also recommend a soft setting dope and I wouldn't crank them in too tight.
