FE Technical Forum / Fe power adapter questions
« on: August 08, 2015, 01:47:01 PM »
Jay,  (and others)
First off i was very pleased to receve my adapter. its really a nice piece of work and seems to be maybe a couple pounds lighter than the PSE adapter. i do have just a couple basic questions though.
1. the port wall thickness to push rod opening, any idea how much i have to work with there ? obviously ill need to be as careful as possable but wonder what the dangers are of breaking through. should i hold my port matching as close to the mounting serface as possable and just clean up the CNC marks till i get well past the pushrod opening ?
2. is there any reason why the 6th intake mounting hole (second center) was not drilled ? i realise its probably not needed for good sealing but on my cross breed cast/fab duel carb manifold i rely on having both center mounting points for my linkage . if theres some reason i shouldn't drill and tap the second hole on at least one side then i can fab something up but the easyest way out would be to drill and tap it in the origanal location. it appears to me that if set up properly and drilled and tapped there shouldn't be any problem but i thought id ask you guys that already run the adapter first before i did anything.
thanks for any suggestions .

Does anyone know if the T&D race rockers have the same ID. As the erson rockers. ? Just wondering if the small diameter short shaft T&D is the same diameter as the small shaft erson.

FE Technical Forum / solid roller cam selection
« on: July 23, 2015, 03:09:15 PM »
Has anyone had any experience with    Cam Research,    the ford cam specialist ?  Without having the benefits of testing different cams on a dyno or having a good simulation program whats the best way to chose the very Best cam you can for your particular application. ?  Talk to the cam manufacturers tech and give them all the info possable and let Them make a recommendation ?  Sometimes they make you feel like there just looking in a catalog and putting there finger on something. Maybe talking to custom cam grinders would be better ?  I feel like some of the awesome Fe engine builders would be a better choose but sometimes it seems they also may be just choosing something in general as well and I get there all very busy and if there not providing services directly for you then there not going to be as. Incline to take the time. Maybe be brave enough to post all my specs here and see if anyone has a strong openion of there own.. I'm just throwing it out there. Just fishing. Theres alto of great minds on this site, no doubt about it and tons of knowledge.  I have a cam and have mentioned it to a few guys and what I get in responce is "that should work OK".
I guess what I'm getting at is what's you guys thoughts on the best way to choose the right cam the first time.. ?

FE Technical Forum / fe rocker arm assembly
« on: July 22, 2015, 08:11:59 PM »
Wondering about the choices available for kuntz prepaired edelbrock heads.  I know there are many and also many copy cats. Again its a strictly race engine,   titanium valves, solid roller cam,  7,200 - 7,600 rpm max depending on cam. Just wondering what some of you guys have used and liked. Of course $$$ jesel $$$ and T&D, but any other thoughts ? I have an old set of Harland sharp standard shaft diameter rockers but there pretty worn and seem soft. I have a nice set of erson that have hardly any use at all but as I understand they dis continued them and there are no parts available. . Just curious as to what you guys think. I'm assuming alot of you guys will lean toward the T&D set up either sportsman or the full race. Whatabout the stainless Shelby set up, anyone use those much ?

FE Technical Forum / blown Fe.
« on: July 14, 2015, 02:16:38 PM »
Id like to get some input on building an Fe for an 6/71 - roots type blower application. A friend of mine has acquired a 64 falcon that was being built to meet "east coast Gasser's" rules with solid front axle and so forth. He is working on the chassis now trying to finish it up. He also acquired a 390 D4TE block with the extra webbing and fitted with some kind of billet steel Crossbolt caps that I dint recognize.  They dint appear to be pro-gram caps or old PSE caps. Maybe another brand or custom made idk . The block has been completely filled with some type of block Filler, its a darker gray and looks like hardblok to me as moroso fill tends to be a bit lighter in color.    He plans to run methanol or alcohol and only minimal head cooling or no cooling system at all. I realize back in the day they ran these kind of cars with no cooling system but I have no experience with that and my questions would be does methanol or alcohol really Al ow you to do this ? Is this block usable for this or anything or is it now junk ? If it is usable then my next questions would be what kind of stroke and rod lengths would be best for this kinda combination ?  What would be a good base line compression ? The block is a fresh .060 over and only needs some finish honing.  What type of head would be a good choose ?  They can be steel or aluminum.  I'm just curious as to any thought or input.
Side note, he has a bunch of small block stuff and is also thinking of going that route. Id hate to see him do that and would like to see him go with the Fe. If what he has is usable then I think he would choose the Fe.

« on: July 04, 2015, 09:06:38 PM »

This set up is a little bit of everything. Old school 660's by "wiz bang Bob" with modified venturies, 850 base plates but with the 660 primary and secondary linkage, sheet metal intake plenum adapted to cut 351c tunnel ram runners and previously used on a PSE base but now awaiting its new home on one of Jay's FE power base and kuntz fully prep ed edelbrock heads. The 660's may not live there long but ill at least give them the honor to take a few breaths once everything is back together again. Cant wait for the new base Jay, I'm really looking forward to having a fresh start at matching the intake/base/heads. Lucky my Parker funnel web matches perfectly with my half sheet metal,  half cast so it will be an easy swap back and forth between the two.
I'm just a tad bit excited to get my new base from Jay and my heads back form Kuntz if you guys couldn't tell.   ;D

I purchased this bus back in 2000. It was an ugly ol school bus, blown 370 engine. The bus cost me $600 plus $100 to get it towed to the house. This is what I turned it into and have been using it since 2002.
