FE Technical Forum / Snug cam
« on: January 01, 2016, 11:03:50 AM »
The cam has been checked for straightness, both by Delta camshafts and by Star machine . there's nothing spots, it feels nice and smooth, doesn't freeze up after setting, I was extremely careful installing the bearings, .it just seems a little snug to me, I haven't put the inch pound break away wrench on it just to get a number or anything. Idk, I'm using the coated durabond bearings. Wondering it that's making a difference.
Think I have read here some where about slicing a cut in an old cam to clearance the bearings ??
How snug is to snug ?

FE Technical Forum / Dumb Cam/crank gear question.
« on: January 01, 2016, 10:54:05 AM »
Is there any particular reason for the number of teeth on the gears for each application ?
As long as its 2 to 1 ratio ,  would it matter if its 48/24 teeth or 44/22 teeth ?  Proper chain length's  used of course ..

Good Deals! / Aerospace components vacuum pump kit.
« on: December 30, 2015, 09:06:10 PM »

I bought my self a Christmas present, its. Remanufactured pump with all the other components being new.I stumbled into it on e bay and it comes straight from aerospace . They list the remanufactured kits for $599.00 on e bay which is a good $300+ cheaper than with the new pump kit from jegs or summit ($941.00).
They accept offers and I made one and ended up paying a tad less than $500. It showed up Christmas Eve and I'm eased with at least how it looks. I know its early on in my build and its not needed quite yet but at the time I felt sure I had that deal on the used DannyBee so I bit the bullet and got the vacuum pump system as well.

FE Technical Forum / Forged Steel crank
« on: December 29, 2015, 02:17:15 PM »
Does anyone know the brand of crank that's on the PoP site ? 4340 forged steel cranks for $750.00 forged off shore but finished machined in US. Are they RPM cranks or the pro power ones ? I'm thinking there not Scat cause they go for over a grand from what I have seen in the past.

I just wanted take a few minutes to first of all thank Jay for an awesome sight, its relatively drama free, lots of good usable information and advice from so many great guys and minds. Even the criticism here is always constructive and the advice and guidance is straight forward yet most of you guys don't fault or think less of some of us that sometimes think out of the box or do things un orthodox.. I have been a huge FE nut since highschool, way t many years to think about yet still wet behind the ears compared to some of you guys. I have learned alot and like to think I may have even helped at least someone along the way.
Just want to wish all you guys a very Merry Christmas, and thank you all for keeping the FE alive and kicking stronger than ever before.. Hope to continue the journey on through the new year...
Thanks guys, ..

FE Technical Forum / Carb spacer/adapter .
« on: December 18, 2015, 11:28:34 PM »
OK so I got one of Jays adapters, I have the Parker racing funnel web intake that I had mounted on my old PSE intake adapter. The intake and ford power adapter are all port matched nicely. I have acquired a very nice  AED 1050 Dominator that is back fresh from AED where it was overhauled.
Should I use the carb with a good 4500 to 4150 adapter ?  Or trade or sell the 4500 for a good 4150 that already fits my funnel web and super sucker spacer ?
I'd like to know what you guys think. It would be used on a race engine of course .

Good Deals! / Camshaft repair
« on: December 11, 2015, 12:36:23 PM »
Delta camshaft in Washington state.
I checked with several places on repairing the roller cam and decided to give these guys a try. I had to ship it clear across the country but they received it on a Wednesday and on Thursday evening I got a call saying it was ready. They repaired the lobe, freshened up the whole cam and made sure it was straight and true.
The reason I chose them was simply customer service. They were friendly when I spoke with them, ( not like the comp cams guy couldn't have been more rude). They explained what they would do, didn't try to push me into one of there re grind profiles, (Oregon cams told me it would need a complete re grind to one of there profile's $$$ because they didn't have a master) . I really didn't understand and they didn't seem to care if they did it or not. Delta camshaft said hogwash, if you have the cam and its in over all good shape they can copy the lobe from it and that made since to me.. Maybe I'm completely wrong but I'm satisfied and felt I was treated properly and had supper fast service. All for less than $100.oo
I'd say if you got a camshaft that needs repair then at least give these guys a call. I'm giving them two thumbs up.. JMO....

It's my first time dealing with them, I made two separate orders from them some time back and neither has been processed yet. When I check the orders they both say "awaiting fulfillment" .  I know lots of you guys have used them before and wonder is it normal to take so long for orders from them. ?
