Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Best Roadkill Ever?
« on: May 30, 2015, 09:49:33 AM »
I guess cheap is relevant to disposable income, time, & what you have laying around. for me, cheap projects never seem to stay that way. something breaks, or I can improve this or that. not being retired, my time is really precious (as in don't have any) however, I always like the idea of not having to worry about driving the balls off, washing, waxing, & dents on a cool ride. Wasn't that the whole rat rod thing? I do have a 2 wheel 92 ranger just waiting for a LS, Ahh, I meant to say wore out FE.

I'm disappointed in the starter. real mopar starters always sounded like this, (say it quickly out loud), CHEEE-A, CHEEE-A, CHEEE-A, CHEEE-A.
However, ford flatheads are the coolest sounding starters hands down

I had a bucket truck with a c6 that I put to the test (by accident) by setting the e-brake, put the motor on fast idle & went up in the bucket to do some work. after about 15 min. I smelled smoke. Turns out I didn't have the truck in park. It was in rev. loaded against the converter. Pumped all the oil out the breather & front seal. Put 12 quarts of oil in it & drove it home. never hurt it, never leaked & never missed a beat after that. try that with an aod.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 390 overheating at idle

the fact that it only overheats when idling, as opposed to going down the road, tells me that either it's not getting enough of air flow or water flow. fan blade on backwards? or maybe water pump impeller rusted away? aftermarket pulleys or serpentine? water pump made for a serp. running backwards? I'ld prolly start with the pump.

Drag Strip Results for FE Powered Vehicles / Re: 62 gal.
« on: May 07, 2015, 08:07:59 AM »
I had a bunch of 352 cars & this one seems quicker than the others. I would guess mid 17s would be more normal. Like to think it's my super tuning abilities, but prob. just one of the rare ones that runs just a little better than average for no apparent reason.

I didn't realize each drag result should be a new thread like you listed yours. I orig. put mine here, & then tried to del. it & move it to the new thread, which I did, but it would not let me delete it here without leaving  some text, hence the maybe fix this, as in deleting the whole post I made here. I dunno I'm confused, & prolly not making any sense. I like the idea of each run as a new thread, then anybody can ask questions about a setup or such without it getting lost down the page. thanks Jay.

so Barry, what do you run for exhaust? your fairlane is the best sounding mufflered car I've ever heard. Had to run to the fence to see what was running that sounded so good.

pretty sure Howie, I get the ugly welding award, I also suck at it. It don't have to be nice, just have good penetration. You know, just like that certain part of the male anatomy.

maybe joints without grease fittings. greaseable joints have to be hollow to let the grease through. non greasable solid? I don't know, just thinkin out loud.
