Thanks much Rory. The stumble is probably not uncovered jets but I wanted to know from the 2x4 guys if adding the extensions should be SOP.
I have been bit at the track by running too little fuel in the stock Fairlane tank. My rule now is the car has to have a half tank.
The car has a RobbMc fuel system from the pick-up to the carbs.  Even with good parts the owner can work against himself. It’s all 1/2” from the pick-up to the big RobbMc mechanical pump but I had a 90 degree turn in the run and that is not good to have on the suction side. I have since corrected it.

Thanks for sharing that Jim. 7400 seems high, is that with a 28” tire?

If you are through with the 4.71s I would be interested in buying them. If so please contact me:

Thanks

I feel like its tongue is hanging out. That is why I was hoping to roll back the rpms. Can’t fit a taller tire so that is out. The hydro roller stick did peak at 6500-6600 when fresh but the valve springs might not be what they were four years ago.

Ran 4.57s for a few seasons and the ET and mph were not as good as with the 4.86s

Calculators show the drop to 4.71s would shave 200 rpm, perhaps enough to stave off valve float?

Thanks for all the replies.

Can this be done? I have looked at many on line calculators but cannot deduce from what I have seen how to learn the impact of a gear ratio change. RPM & MPH changes no problem.

Existing numbers are 125 mph at 7000 rpm. Horsepower could be anywhere from 575 to 625. Probably 575 at this point as engine is tired. Current ratio is 4.86. Considering 4.71s to take a couple hundred rpm off of trap rpm.

Is ET too subjective to formulate?

Thanks

 Very nice pics Doug.
MY refers to model year.
Hemmings Muscle Machines usually does write up. I hope there is one for that show.

Anyone who went to MCACN care to share how the Fords/Mercs were represented? Wasn’t there a 68 MY special?

Thanks

I don’t feel my launches are compromised without them but down the track there is a high gear stumble. Could be any number of things but throwing some money at two extension kits is easy.

Thanks

Doug, the guys who get it done with 9” tires have my respect. My car was nothing special originally, ( 2V 390), so I’m okay with cutting it. Once the roll bar was welded in the gloves came off.

I ordered the Strange complete third member 1.5 narrower than stock. I thought that would help with big rubber. It was not really necessary. I had 6.5” back space Weld Wheels and the wheels ended up coming in too far. 5.5” back space works with the Hoosiers which have a healthy section width. But that is with the spring kit getting the leafs away from the sidewall. So it’s a combination of things to get the 10.5s to fit.

I was very close. Told the bride 75-100K. She said “huh”?

Doug, what kind of money has been mentioned for the unit? My wife showed me a pic from FB and I gave her an estimate on the asking price.

Could eat off that engine.  Very nicely done.

It’s been awhile but was that an 11.1 pass? If so Wallace calculators formulates 537 flywheel hp. Not an exact science of course and the headwind certainly skews it.

Minimum .130-140 on major thrust sides sounds comfortable

Man, not happy to see this. What was the sonic beef number on the cracked side of number 7? Or is the thickness moot as the unhappy rod caused the piston to crack the wall?

Was there a typo on 335? There must be at least 535 with the parts you have in that mill.

Sucks
