The short travel Morel hydro rollers I got from Brent for my 482 help with making peak power @6500. Engine will go to 7100 before nosing over. The oil specs from Morel call for 5-30. VR-1 Racing oil doesn’t come in that weight so I have been using their 10-30 for several years.

Harry, how does the back side of number four intake valve look compared to the others? La Brea like?

Get stocked on utility blades for your gasket making class.

You will want to have an overflow catch bottle off of radiator. If battery is in trunk you will need a cut off switch. Unless a car presents as junk,( which I know your car does not), tech will want you to be able to safely race. Glad to hear you are planning on attending!

No help with exhaust but was wondering if your car’s restoration story/history is on line anywhere. Love those Formal Roofs!

Harry, I run the 1/0 from the back to the front. The fuse between the cut off switch and the front of car is 500 amp. ( Rockford Fosgate). The 1/0 is tinned , high strand count. Any time I need custom big wiring for a car I reach out to CE Auto Electric in AZ. Tony Candela builds whatever I need and answers my noob questions.

I think the size of the cable will be the determining factor as far as cranking ability. What did you run?

Howie, I have learned that the green/red wire which goes back to the ignition is the one that should be interrupted by the two small switch posts on the Moroso shut off unit.

Thanks

That’s a great article Bob. I used it as a reference. It does not address the race car end of things.
Thanks

Switching the old 1G in my 67 Fairlane to a 3G unit.
Not sure where to incorporate the alternator shut down wiring. It was wired in to the F wire that came out of the old regulator. That wire is not part of the 3G wiring scheme. The possible new choices are the yellow wire emanating from the 3G loom, the main power wire that attaches to the alternator batt stud, (both of those terminate at the solenoid), the green wire that goes from the 3G loom to the ignition switch or the loom wire that goes to the stator.
The loop that goes to the small terminals on the trunk mounted switch is 14 gauge.

Thanks

Doug, if you end up putting them in your Fairlane let me know how long it takes. It takes me 5-6 hours. I like to put some hi-temp RTV inside the collector where the tubes go in. If everything is not lined up perfectly the RTV might stop a leak.

Looking at  the collectors, bends and factoring in the 2” O.D. I would say they are Crites. Mine are old but have the cleaner flanges you mentioned. They should be somewhat soft unless they were made out of varying alloys over the run.

More than a nod to Ross Bullock as the engine builder.

It’s a good read.
