Doors fenders and hood lined up.

Installed the gas tank and filler

I traded a C6 and 4000+ stall converter from my race car (I use a C4 now) for this 302 that has very little run time on it.

Not sure if it will be ready to race.

I have been working on my 1969 Cobra Jet Mustang between customer cars in my spare time getting ready for the 50th Anniversary of the Cobra Jet.

I have had a few questions about my shifter. It is a reverse pattern shifter from Turbo Action for the C4. I don't have the decal on it showing the shift pattern.

I have the wiring finished and everything works

I still have to wire the alternator and my new water pump when the engine is installed.

Here is a better view of the Fairlane.

For somebody that is partially red-green-blue color blind, that color difference from the booth to the garage sure is striking!  Does it have some transitional color once its outside?  In one shot you could see on the rear spoiler the more 'orange' vs the red.

Joe

My old camera it looks light orange cell phone looks red. It is hard to get the true color but it is bright orange.

After a lot of bodywork and block sanding I sprayed the body with a couple of coats of SPI white epoxy before spraying orange.

3 coats of SPI orange and the next day sprayed 3 coats of SPI Universal clear

Looks a lot different outside

Brian wet sanding

I never did like the big spoiler that also went on the quarter panels so I cut it down and bonded it to the hatch.

Brian finished buffing the body

Russ, I was just wondering what you meant by "Test fitted a set of wheels I had , ended up having to run them backwards to fit"

And thanks for continuing this thread. It'll be nice to see it through to completion.

The rear end is too narrow to use the wheels he has with 5 1/2" back space so he turned them around. I had 10" wide rims with 5 1/2" back space but it was almost impossible to get the tires off because of the 3" studs. Brian narrowed the rear and Russ will need different rims.

I wanted to stiffen the body so I ordered a roll bar kit and Brian welded it in place.

The Mustang II is painted SPI Orange

Mach 1 hood scoop

I upgraded to 5 lug wheels

Jay said it was okay to post this build. I traded this 1978 Mustang II for some labor on a Mustang we are restoring. This is what we started with.

Not the best job cutting out the hole.

Looks better after Brian cleaned up the hole

Rust around the gas filler that was filled with bondo

I bought an Eleanor gas filler kit

I had to get rid of those crash bumpers. I bought a fiberglass bumper and front valance but I didn't like the fit so I cut it to match the fender and glassed the valance to the bumper so now it is one piece.

Can you give us any specs on the engine, Rusty? I see it has BBM heads and a Victor intake.

I don't have the specs. I'm sure Russ67scode will answer that.

This is the Blair Patrick engine that is going in the Mustang with a C6 transmission.

That's kind of a bummer. I really enjoyed this thread and learned a LOT from it. I was hoping we'd get to see it through to the end. Thanks for taking the time to post this build, Rusty.

The Fairlane won't be far away and you will still see updates.

I sold the Fairlane to a friend of mine and the good news is the new owner will be installing a Blair Patrick FE in it. Stay tuned for more details.
