FE Technical Forum / Re: Ribbed skirt FE block timeline?
« on: February 15, 2022, 11:15:41 PM »
Rory and others I've got a few blocks like those 22 or 70 something on the front with a 105 along the oil pan rail as well as one or 2 with the 105 inside the BH area.
I've got about 20 at this time and will check as time allows. Right now I'm working on an adapter to use a log splitter as a sheet metal press brake because my bead roller doesn't have the capacity to press the rolled sheet metal bend for my 48 Lincoln firewall to clear the FE 3X2 intake. 6+ hours into fabricating the die process so far,
As f0r the FE engines I'll get some pictures and post them here.

OK to make sure my mind isn't failing as much as others say, 73 years young. Decided to take a look just now. I knew exactly where it was with about 10 Mallory Accel and Pertronix distributors. It seems to be a kit still in the box. New coil, points? condenser and resistor also a short black wire. I'll get a picture tomorrow 7 AM Oregon time.

I've got a new Supercoil out here in Oregon. It's a big square thing still in the box if I remember correctly, will check tomorrow.
 Interesting trade stuff?
My nostalgia FE has either a Grant-Spaulding or a Joe Hunt Mag. I've got both but can't decide which.

I can send you 4 or 5.
I'll box them USPS flat rate and ship Tuesday or Wed. How ever many I can fit into a small F.R. box.

Are you sure that one of them is not a T-Bird intake. Are the carb mounting surfaces the same height on both. T-Birds were flat with bosses for auto Kick-down.

Brent: received the pistons and new rings. Packaged as new in a waterproof box (coastal Oregon rains).
Now I've got to decide what to do with the 428 C scratch engine once it's assembled. .  Could not pass up this opportunity.
Thanks

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: No More Work
« on: January 04, 2022, 07:43:00 PM »
I retired at age 55 in 2003 (33 years tenure) after meeting my wife in a running club in Downtown Detroit, She got a buyout from DTE (Edison) at the age of 50 after they bought my company, Michcon. Gas.  She had a duplicate high paying position and they wanted to reduce overhead so off she went. She then went to Massage school in Portland, Oregon and we also decided to get married and move to Oregon. I work on something every day from 8 AM to 5PM either in my hobby auto shop or outside construction/woodworking/landscaping/tree cutting for firewood.   I do still run about 700 miles a year and compete in some distance runs. Sometimes I think how much easier fulltime work was, LOL. But then I was restoring a 3600 SF 1880's farmhouse with 20 acres of land to tend to.
BTW congratulations hope your retirement is as full as mine.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 410 vs 428 Power Difference

Jay: too bad your book didn't compare some more base engines like a stock 390 GT and a 428CJ. Then the manifolds might make a great difference, or maybe not?

FE Technical Forum / Re: Are there any aluminum heads available?
« on: December 30, 2021, 06:55:05 PM »
I was lucky enough just short of a year ago to have the FE builder (a member here) find me a pair of ported Edel. heads that flow just over 300.
427 CO with a 428 crank.
I'm now saving my 2 sets of C4AE-H low risers for future builds not needing the HP.
Never thought I'd find aluminum heads that I could afford.  I'll be only street driving my 427 so won't need the extra horsepower.

Maybe try Bell housing bolt patterns? Just a thought or I could measure one of mine.

Ricky: found one of them got to dig for another.
Carter AFB Comp. Series 3221 9637SA. Very nice condition.
Secondary throttle plates are a bit larger than the primary but it's not a spread bore.
I'll check for the other one later today.

Ricky: I've got 2 AFB style carbs one is a Comp. Series and another an Edel. Both off engines I parted out and will never use the carbs. They are just taking up shelf space.
How do I figure out CFM? I only know Holly list numbers.
BTW I sold both the Performer 390's for around $120 each a year ago. LOL.
The Carbs will be will be really reasonable if you can use them..

Not sure how to get it to Western NY state.
