FE Technical Forum / Re: any FE parts at PRI?
« on: December 13, 2022, 10:48:42 PM »
From Barry R"s comment: are any Timing covers hard to find or just nice-looking aftermarket ones?
I've got a box full of stock TC covers.

Brent: If Jack Tindel does not come up with a set, checked and I've got 3 sets here with the knockouts still intact.

FE Technical Forum / Re: JayB and HemiJoel question about 6X2 carb intakes
« on: November 15, 2022, 11:38:31 PM »
Scott: Thanks for the detailed explanation and procedure. I'll print that out and use it.
Joel: PM sent with my address and yes, I'm 1565 Straight line on Google maps from Rogers Minn. (LOL)
This will really be a oneoff build for the FE community.

Edit: I'll post a detailed picture of a Stromberg WW tomorrow. Everything is almost backward from a Holley and then I'm mounting 3 of them backward to get  the linkage all in the center for a cleaner (but more complicated) appearance. Not an issue to make the linkage though.

FE Technical Forum / JayB and HemiJoel question about 6X2 carb intakes
« on: November 08, 2022, 09:16:59 PM »
I've got Jay's book and watched Joel's comments about 6X2 and 8X2 intake Mine is a Edel F68 with 6 Stromberg WW carbs.
Mine flow about 20% more than those in Jay's test, Quite sure that those were positive linkage.
Wondering about positive vs progressive linkage. Getting ready to spend some money for linkage.
My 2 options are Ford 3X2 progressive and straight positive. I've got one of each and can duplicate another if I need.
Balancing carbs can be an issue with 6 to do.
The fellow I'm sending my Grant Spaulding to (Advanceddistributors in Minn) said he'd advise positive since looking at the runners he would be worried about A/F mix in the outer cylinders in street driving.
Your thoughts:  positive or progressive linkage?
2800# car 4.11 wide ratio 4 spd 427 with a 428 crank Edel. heads flowing 300+ on the intake. Street driven only.

Rebush the axle and ream to size. Be alot easier than building up a kingpin.

Thats what I did to my 36 V60 tube axle bushed it to Econoline size and converted to Econoline spindles. But that was 1974.

FE Technical Forum / Re: DSS Pistons?
« on: October 27, 2022, 05:11:54 PM »
Rory:  I bought a set of RaceTec's from Brent within the past year off a dyno build. +030 with new rings. My 428 block is already + .030 and thought I'd use them. I paid around $500 + shipping (USD) - (Pistons and Rings). Might consider selling them since I might sell the engine. Not planning to make much of a profit since rebuilding the shortblock can be costly and I could avoid the expense.
Not really anxious to sell but, I could use the money and sell the 428 as well.  The 428 has very few miles since the rebuild. Pulled it running from a 1974 F350 dually fellow was putting a 460 into. Figured I'd just put the pistons in with a slight hone and hope for the best.
Getting ready to downsize the numerous FE blocks I have.
Richard >>> Roadster

Correction: Checked the pistons and they are AutoTec A4123F, Rings still in the box are Total Seal 1/16 1/16 3/32. Includes circlips.
See Brent's post in Vendors Classified about the pistons. (Jan. 2022)

Heo and Bob: Thanks, now I can get the dimensions I need.
I do have a boxed Model A frame to measure fit.

Does someone have the width of 302 head exhaust surfaces?
All of my SBF stuff is gone so now I only have a set of 289 Cobra headers.
Trying to figure out if they would fit outside of a 1931 Model A frame. Will sell them on HAMB but would like to know if they would clear.
My 31 Roadster is slated for a FE.
Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Nostalgic look for a 427 CO? Grant Spaulding setup?
« on: September 15, 2022, 11:26:40 PM »
My 427 CO is going into a early 1960's car and I 'm wondering about using a Grant-Spaulding distributor/
Do know it's age/look appropriate for the time frame but what should be the timing be? 14 degree's initial and 38 at what RPM?
Street driven car prob 3200# 3,90 gearing 4 spd. WR toploader CI long tube headers.
Sending the distributor to AdvancedDistributer's in Minn. for a check and recurve.
Oregon Cams 600-608 lift I and E.  Edel. Heads that flow 300+ at .600 lift. Large 6X2 Carb intake.
So what curve is best for my car?

I don't know about distributors that well but Jeff said something to the effect that having the advance adjustment under the plate makes it difficult to adjust and is time consuming.
Maybe I mis-understood.

Not really a Ford distributor rather a Grant Spaulding for a FE. It's hard to find someone who will check it out so I called Jeff at Advanced Distributor. He said he hasn't worked on a G-S but would like to take a look at it. He did say no Ford distributors.
I talked with him about 3 weeks ago and have since picked up a G-S manual that discusses the setup and rebuild process.
Hope to send the manual and distributor to him this week.

FE Technical Forum / Re: FE bellhousing needed - QuickTime info
« on: July 19, 2022, 09:47:34 PM »
I've got a very old Lakewood here that looks like it's got a homemade block plate.
Bad thing is I'm over 1500 miles away and it is heavy and bulky.
Shipping would most likely exceed the benefit of a modern QuickTime.

Al Thought I do post info I am aware of, most times I'm asking about the "what If" questions i need an answer to.
This is by best source for performance options.
