Well that makes me feel a little better. At least it was a Ford product that resembles an FE...at least in the dark, with bad eyes, and no glasses.  ::) Cool history on the supercharger deal. Thanks for the links.

Dag blast it, I think you're right, Jay. The valve covers should have 3 bolts on top and 2 on the bottom. A quick glance and I thought they were baldy covers.
I don't know of any other engine with protruding exhaust ports, but it's dark enough that it may be misleading.
I'm just confirming my "newbie" status....now, where's that towel to wipe the egg off my face  ::)

Of course it was  1959, but still cool  :)
Came across this old drag racing video made by the NHRA to educate people about racing.
It has a lot of really neat cars in it along with well known cars like the Ram Chargers and Art Arfons Green Monster. When it came to the end, the meet top class winner rolled up....and immediately I recognized the unmistakable exhaust ports of an FE. With the cool 'way back' front mounted supercharger design, I got a big kick out of it. Thought you guys might enjoy a peek at it.

Skip to 26:00 to catch the car and engine. It's cool that they gave a decent shot of the engine.

Tried to embed it, but it didn't seem to cooperate so just gave the YouTube link.

Don't wanna hijack but if I read this correctly y'all are saying that powerbond makes an integral pulley/damper like the original one I'm running on the truck?

Will

No, they are strictly the later style with separate pulley. Dale was mentioning that he just needed to find the correct later pulley with the correct belt count to work with the damper.

And keep an eye on the bottom intake-to-block surface. With 35-40 year old parts, they have most likely been machined at other points and that gap may be close to begin with and close up pretty quick to the point they may touch. As long as they don't touch you should be good. If you just use sealer instead of a gasket, the close gap can be a good thing.

the motor runs dual turbos !

Nah, those are centrifugal superchargers. With two superchargers, it doesn't much matter if the engine can actually use the four carbs or not....it's called FORCED FEEDING  ;)

FE Technical Forum / Re: Blair Patrick's latest 506" FE
« on: May 03, 2013, 07:03:44 AM »
Wow!! That is massively impressive, Blair. Now the real challenge will be the ability to get the car to handle all that torque.I think they're going to need somebody equally as talented as Mr. Patrick, but specializing in chassis! I'm also amazed by the 30* of timing. I know aluminum heads require less...typically around 34*, but that is the first I've seen totals that low. Should make for a very happy engine with a long life.
A couple questions....what block is being used, and did the 4.4 stroke require any hammers to fit? Any hardblocking used? What car is going to be tortured with this engine? I'm guessing a Fairlane?
And please....pictures?!! :)
Very very impressive!

Thanks for the reply.
I understand everything you're saying. I'll check out the GT500 filter, but if the filter media is no better is there a source for better medias in a more bulk form? There is enough area that I could build my own support structure to increase surface area of a custom made filter.. The area under the leading area of the hood is an extremely high pressure area...easily witnessed by the corners of the hood lifting at anything over 80mph
Bottom line is I would give up a few HP for increase in longevity, but don't want to penalize myself any more than necessary. I believe the increase in intake tube diameter and contoured entrys are the main gain points, and since the aftermarket filters are actually quite small, it wouldn't take much to increase surface area in a custom setup.

Welcome, Ron. A very knowledgeable group of guys here.
And boy you ain't kidding, this has been a long winter (Ohio here). I'm still making fires every night to stay warm and it's almost May!

Most times the squeel is caused by a belt that is old enough to harden or has been "burned" on the outer rub areas and is hardened enough not to get a good grip. Usually a new belt will cure it. I like the double pulley set-up that Jay mentioned and use them.

I know it's more money, but a Holley pump tuning kit is a "must have" for carb tuning. Investing in a pump cam kit and a couple squirter sizes above and below where you're at now will allow you to play with the combo to see what the engine wants and needs. Every engine is different, so just start with what you have and experiment to see what it likes.

Terrorized the neighborhood Took a couple of laps around the block today

Now that's funny  :)

Font cam is black and the rear is peach colored. The front shooter is a .031 and the rear is a .025. Seeing as the #2 position on the cam cured most of the bog, should I be looking into smaller shooters?

Smaller shooters will give you a longer squirt time and should help, provided it doesn't put you back in to a lean bog. If it does, you may have to look at the bigger 50cc pump to get the extra capacity along with the correct shooter to keep you out of the bog. It can be somewhat time consuming to get it all right, but it's always a great excuse to terrorize the neighborhood take a couple of hot laps.

I'm so far over budget on my little "header" upgrade from last year I'm having a hard time lookin' my wife in the eye, good thing she really loves me.   ::)

Header upgrade.....haha!!!  :)

Thanks, Scooter. I did forget to add a '70 F350 dumptruck that I have, but with a stock 360 it's not much to brag about.
Here are the other rides....

Still looking for a solid cab to re-do the Highboy...

And just for giggles, a video of my Highboy taking off. You can't stomp on it from a start or it will wrap up the rear axle too bad.

You say it bogs with no black smoke after a couple seconds after stomping on it. If you push to WOT a little slower than stomping on it and it runs smooth through the point where it bogged, then that is a pretty sure indication that the pump shot is running out too quickly as mentioned.
That O2 sensor would really help here.

And +1 on the sweet Fairlane. A set of CJ valve covers would really look sharp on that thing! Hey, it's only money  ;)

Thanks, Jay and Bruce.
I admit, Jay, I do like a clean engine compartment and keep up on any leaks and repainting occasionally. To me, it's the focal point of the car.
Bruce, it's pretty peppy to say the least, but really can't compare to some of the engines on here. I keep fighting the urge to put a stroker in it, but I like the fact that it's all Ford iron. Still, I'm not real good at fighting temptation  :)

Thank you, Ross. It is so much friendlier here.
I am glad to be a member of this forum, even if Jay has labeled me as a "newbie"  :)
