M2K Motorsports has been the record holder for some time, and they just keep upping the ante every year. They finally broke the 300 barrier yesterday, at the Texas Mile! At 134.5 in the 1/4, it's no slouch on the short end either! I think it's cool that so many of these cars are doing what they were built to do. You don't see that with any other 'low production' highly valuable cars.

Edit to add that this is done on a factory block and heads!!

FE Technical Forum / Racing seats, any advice on what to look for?
« on: March 02, 2019, 03:52:06 PM »
I've been looking at racing seats for my Mustang. Holy moly are there a BUNCH of them! And prices are all over the universe. I'd like to upgrade my seats for several reasons: some much needed weight savings, compatibility with a 5 point harness, compatibility with a back mount for the roll bar, and of course safety reasons.

First question, has anyone been to Jegs or Summits showrooms, and do they have examples in their showroom to try fit and comfort? I really hate the thought of spending money on a crapshot picture on a website. Trying them out in person seems like the only way to know for sure. And since my car gets traveled quite a bit during Drag Week, a basic bucket with 1" of foam padding isn't going to cut it. I'm gonna want something with at least a little comfort.

Second question: Any advice on what to stay away from, what to look for, names to avoid etc?

My car is stick shifted, and many of the options out there seem to have high side and shoulder bolsters. I have to stay away from the deep shoulder/head bolsters or I won't be able to turn around and see when backing up. Remember, it'll be street used. But I also have concerns about the deeper bolsters in the lower section interfering with my ability to shift. Any comments from experience would greatly be appreciated.

Here's an example of one I was looking at. Any thoughts on a seat of this type, good/bad/stupid?

One of the downsides to that seat seems to be that the shoulder measurements will need to be spot on for proper shoulder belt placement, since there is no leeway in the opening like many other seats available.

FE Technical Forum / Availability of Jerico replacement parts..
« on: December 14, 2018, 02:20:53 PM »
Since the Jerico DR4 trans is no longer being supported by Jerico with replacement parts, there has been a big volume of them come up for sale on various sites. I still have not purchased a trans for the new engine, and was looking at getting the new DR4-4, but the price tag is pretty big. I could pick up 2-3 of the older DR4's for the price of one new DR4-4, but what about parts availability? I know there are guys out there with some stash of replacement parts, but who knows how long they will last.

Almost every older unit I see would at least need an input shaft change, as most are not the correct length for an FE installation, at least that's my understanding. Maybe I'm wrong on that; I don't know what other makes use for input shaft lengths. So would it be wise to buy a couple older units and just accept the ratios that come with them, and hope that I can still get parts in the event of a sooner-or-later breakage, or would it be smarter to save the dollars and just go with the newer version? This is a huge investment for me, so I don't want to regret my decision.

FE Technical Forum / Header evac system to rear intake breather?..
« on: December 13, 2018, 11:20:00 AM »
Would running a header evac system work ok if it was ran to the rear breather hole on an intake? I know some good baffling would be required, but I think that's do-able. Everybody runs them to the valve covers, but I think the intake would serve the same purpose since the valve area is only open to the lifter valley anyway.

I'm trying to brainstorm an evac system for an engine that would be ran on the street (think Drag Week). My thoughts are to run a regular breather on the rear of the intake that could be quickly popped off and hooked up to the 2 lines for the header evac system. I don't want the added complexity and cost of a vacuum pump, and this would keep from adding cluster to the engine compartment and make valve cover removal simpler and faster. Stupid idea or a waste of time?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Protecting polished aluminum..
« on: December 13, 2018, 11:01:53 AM »
What's the best way to protect polished aluminum from forming oxidation or surface corrosion? I've done the silver powder coating on my timing cover, and while it looks nice, polished aluminum looks better. I have some polished valve covers also,  and while they look great, they will develop a surface corrosion unless they're constantly maintained. Wax will wear off. Will a clear powder coat yellow the finish?

Does anyone have experience with, or know the best way to clean corrosion from a printed circuit board? The corrosion is not from a battery or leaking capacitor, I believe it's just from being in a cold damp climate in my car. It's on my remote for my door opener, and I think the corrosion is jumping contacts and causing it to open at random times. They're not cheap and I'd rather not have to buy a new one if not necessary.

I've read about using vinegar to scrub it with, then wash and thoroughly dry with isopropyl alcohol. Just wondering if anybody has used that method or has a better one? There aren't any capacitors on the board, so that is not an issue.

Here's a couple close-ups of the corrosion. Not serious, but it seems to have formed a pathway between points of contact.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Can anybody identify these shifter handles?..
« on: November 26, 2018, 03:10:21 PM »
I know they're early/mid sixties Ford, and I'm guessing for a T10 by the shift patterns, but what they go to, I'm not sure.

As stated, a brand new MSD 6AL ignition box. This one was only hooked up to my current ignition connector to verify that it was good. No issues, still in the box with all mounting hardware, instructions etc. This newer version has the programmable rev limiter, not the plug in pills.
They list for $270 at Summit.
$200 plus shipping in the CON US.

I've got a good Milodon T pan that I wanted to use, but will it fit with any of the race headers like the Hooker Race, Hedman Street/Strip or other headers that use the straight down front tubes?

Private Classifieds / Toploader transmission SOLD
« on: October 24, 2018, 01:00:39 PM »
Selling a spare toploader I have. RUG E2, listed for 1968 small block Mustang and Cougar, wide ratio. This was a very good and smooth shifting trans when removed about 20 years ago. The input shaft and bearing retainer were robbed for another trans and the input was replaced with a big block unit. Both pieces are rusty and need replaced. I have a good rust free retainer that I'll send with the tranny, but I do not have a good small input shaft for it. All internal gears, synchros and the output shaft are in excellent shape with no chewed up teeth or burring, and there is very little play on the current input shaft. I would not hesitate to replace the input, throw a couple gaskets on it and put it in a car.

$500  SOLD

I'd really prefer not to ship this. I live a few miles east of Lima, Ohio, just off I75, so I'd be willing to meet for delivery within a reasonable distance. I do have a plastic shipping container designed specifically for toploaders that I could ship this in. It just meets the limit of UPS shipping weights, so it is able to be shipped that way, BUT I would want the shipping container back, so you'd have to agree to ship the container back to me.

FE Technical Forum / Will baldie covers fit over T&D race rockers?
« on: October 23, 2018, 09:28:41 PM »
I'm assuming that they will, because I don't believe the T&D race set sits any higher than normal FE rockers, but I have never used them, so figured I'd ask the guys on here. Has anyone tried that combo?

FE Technical Forum / Bends in door bars for roll bar/cage?...
« on: September 14, 2018, 11:54:58 PM »
I'm looking at door bars and trying to figure out what's legal and what isn't. There's nothing in the rules that say the door bar must be straight, so can they come across the required area between the shoulders and elbows, then bend down nearer the top of the seat and be nearly horizontal till they bend back down to the front of the down bars, or to the floor in a 5/6 point? This would allow them to be welded and still maintain easy entrance, rather than having the hassle of swing out bars, or having to be porn star limber to climb in and out.

Has anyone installed a 8-10 point bar/cage in a Mustang and still successfully used the rear seat for a passenger? I know they'd likely have to sit crossways because of the main hoop D braces, but what about just gaining entrance?
