In my small town in Ohio, population about 5600, we've had a Ford dealer that has been in business since 1909. They started out by assembling Model T's from parts that were shipped to them, which I never knew Ford did. It was a cool historical business, with a cool story. Unfortunately, they just couldn't hang with the mega dealers that have taken over, so they closed up the business this September. It was sad to see the place shut down, especially since I knew the people there and dealt with them regularly.

A friend of mine asked the owner if we could get a group of cars together and take some pictures of them in the front lot. She is a very nice lady and was gracious enough to say yes, so the 4 of us set up a day to do it. Word got around and next thing you know, we had a big group of cars that wanted to get in on it. It turned out to be a pretty nice day, and we got a few decent shots.

You can see the original building, built in 1915, behind the addition that was added later on. They have some really cool pictures and signs of the business with cars sitting around it from the teens and twentys, inside the garage area. I wish I could have gotten one of the old porcelain signs, but I think they're going to auction off the stuff, and I'm pretty sure it'll be outside my price range.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Hot Rod 2020 Drag Week tracks announced...
« on: October 11, 2019, 02:07:31 PM »
I don't have the link, but my Son just sent me a screenshot of a Freiburger post announcing the 2020 dates and tracks of Drag Week. Except for replacing Columbus with Byron, these are the same tracks that I went to on my first Drag Week, when my Son and I went. Very local to me. I'm definitely in next year.

Private Classifieds / Wanted, "baldie" valve covers....
« on: July 02, 2019, 12:05:30 PM »
I'm looking for a very nice set of "baldie" valve covers. I want a set that isn't beat up or rusted bad, so that I can have them chrome plated. They can be the early '58-'59 painted style, or the later 427 chrome versions, as long as they are in nice shape.

I know they reproduce them, but the quality isn't so good on them....using thin metal and really cheap chrome, so I want a set of original covers.
Willing to trade or pay cash.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / My grandson....

My Son made this with a picture of my grandson, who is already a gear-head. Probably the single best meme I've ever seen (no, there's no bias there ;D), and sooooo true!..lol

I'm going to start helping my dad unload his stash of '40s-'50s car/truck parts, and that includes a bunch of NOS and used flathead parts. What is the best site to sell them on? I know about the Hamb website, but what are some other good sites to aim these parts at?

Private Classifieds / 57/58 Ford clutch pedal assembly, rebuilt...

Pretty dusty and dirty from sitting around, but paint is good and will clean up nicely. Has all new bushings and everything is tight. Everything in the pictures included. Works for '57 and '58 Fords, but I don't think it works for '59s, not 100% sure about that though.

$200 plus shipping from Ohio

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Ford/GM merger?...
« on: May 29, 2019, 02:23:42 PM »
I'm really surprised nobody has seen or brought this up. I didn't know anything about it until my Son told me about it last night. Not a done deal, but apparently it's a real possibility. I'm pretty sure this would send some forums into meltdown mode..lol

I went to a UMTR event Saturday at Dragway 42. I wanted to see if those 7.5 1/8 mile numbers I ran at Beaver Springs held up to an 11 second 1/4 mile time slip.

Got to the track and pulled the car out, went to fire it up....and nothing. It wouldn't fire a lick :( Great. The car ran fine at Beaver and it's been in the trailer since I got home. At Beaver Springs though, I noticed the tach make a couple of 'blips' on one of my trips on the return road, where the needle suddenly dropped for a split second. That has always been a tell-tale sign that my MSD pick-up was developing an issue, and since I've been through this routine countless times now (seems like anyways >:(), I knew what the problem was. Soooo, out came the distributor for a quick thrash and replacing it with a spare I always carry with me, reset the timing, hit the key and sure enough, it fired right up. I barely had enough time left to make the first time trial round. Glad I got there an hour early!

On the first time run of the day I was pleasantly surprised with my first 11 second time slip. An 11.51 to be exact, at 119 mph! I wondered if there was a mistake. That is over .7 quicker and 4 mph faster than I had previously ran with the exact same setup...except for the transmission swap.

On my next 2 runs, I spun the tires and ran a 11.7, then a 11.6. I made it to the 2nd round of eliminations where I ran a closer ET, but got treed pretty bad on the line. Gotta work on that! Still, it went 11.57 on my 11.55 dial that run, so needless to say, it wasn't a fluke and I was pretty darn happy with the day!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 1/8 mile to 1/4 conversion...
« on: April 29, 2019, 02:00:13 PM »
I have zero experience with 1/8 mile numbers, so I was trying to get an idea of what my car did at the FE R&R. According to a couple guys I talked to at the reunion, my 7.55-7.60 times equate to 13 second et's. I was kinda bummed to hear that, but it didn't make sense to me because my 60' times were .3-.45 better than I had ever done previously, and I had run a 12.2 then, and the car just felt much better on the launches and all the way through 1st gear.

I checked some on-line calculators and they pretty much all agree that those times equate to 11.7-11.8 second ET's. My usual 1/8 mile speeds were in the 96-97 range, but at the Reunion I was more like 92-93, which is understandable considering the headwinds. Again, on-line calculators say that those 92-93 1/8 mile speeds convert to 115 mph trap speeds, which is exactly what my car previously ran, and very consistently.

I know some experienced racers here are good at knowing 1/8 mile times, so I'm just wondering, what would my 7.55-7.60 times have worked out to in the 1/4? I was really hoping to hit the 11's this year, so I was a little bummed about the 1/8 mile limit, but I understood why they were.

FE Technical Forum / Regulator placement for dual carb set-up...
« on: April 08, 2019, 10:25:32 AM »
Trying to figure out a good fuel delivery system for the new set-up. For a high horsepower deal, is it best to have a multi-port regulator that feeds each carb individually, or does a single port regulator that feeds a dual feed rail work fine? I'm leaning towards the dual feed regulator, but wanted some input from guys who race.

Along the same lines, is it best to mount the regulator separate from the engine, to avoid vibrations, or on the engine? I haven't looked into the NHRA rule book to see if there are requirements.

FE Technical Forum / Mobil 1 15w-50 full synthetic for flat tappet?
« on: April 05, 2019, 08:14:32 AM »
I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1 15w-50 full synthetic in my 427 solid lifter engine. I've always shied away from full synthetics on flat tappet engines, but according to their data, this stuff has pretty good zinc content to work with flat tappet cams. I'm curious what the engine builders have to say, or if anyone has used this stuff in flat tappet engines with good success? All of their other racing oils are 0 or 5 weights, which is too thin for my liking.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Main hoop being bent for roll bar...
« on: April 02, 2019, 09:17:35 PM »
This video popped up on my "recommended" list on YouTube. An S&W Race Cars video of them bending a Mustang roll bar main hoop. They just added this video 2 weeks ago. I just ordered my 8 point from them almost 3 weeks ago and got it delivered just last week. It has the same shape as the one in the vid. This has to be my hoop. At least that's my story, and I'm stickin' with it..lol   ??? :o 8)

The picture on their website is horrible. I can't read parts names or numbers. It'd be nice to know what part to mention when inquiring about spares. Does anyone have a better picture or scan of a parts list for the DR4-4?

This is the only picture they offer...
