FE Technical Forum / 30 vs 45 degre valves?
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:08:49 PM »
The edelbrock and stock C.J intake  valves is 30.deg
427 also i Think. Ford had some reason to use 30 deg
valve on hp Engines. Mercedes use 30 also
Old hopup tricks for the flathead recomend 30 deg

but i saw here the delbrock heads gain much from
changing over to 45 deg? wich valves is used  for that
I have only found 30 deg cobrajet sized valves

Im about to get some C4-G heads ported witch deg
to use 30 or 45

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Why o Why cant i leave things alone
« on: October 13, 2013, 04:30:31 PM »
I was cleaning and organizing my garage. So it would
bee nice and Clean when i started building my 390.
And i found the rockerpanel i made for the wifes
Opel rally Kadett. She bought it some yers ago
beacuse it was so small and cute in lipstick red ::) ::)
She drove it for a while but noisy (4.44 rearend)
bad heating some rust issues......
So i traded some work for 2 fiberglass fenders and
a paint job.
Well i thought i better weld in the new rocker , after all its
just a couple of hours work ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)and then of to
the paint shop and i can sell it woohhhoo
Well i have to mount the fenders to...  allright a couple of hours more
Better to sand down that other rocker from loose paint and rust
eehmmm...fiberglass filler >:( >:( well i have to fabricat a new rocker
for that side to......there is a lot of holes in the front gravel pan from
auxilary lights better weld them shut before paint....And those dents
better to smooth them out with hammer and Dolly than just bondo over them
I dont know if i work slow but those few hours of work have
taken 3 weeks of my life, the shop is a mess again. But just
a few hours more and its of to the paintshop ::) ::) ::)
why o why ......i should sold it or gave it away as it was
I Think this  tread should be about the idiots ;D ;D ;D ;D

and desided to change out all of them. While i was laying there
i was feeling something down by my ankle i thought it was
our dog.But it was Walking up my leg so i thought it was
the cat. I put down my hand to pat it when i hear a hissing
growling sound and look down and see two eyes and teets
almost soiled my pants :o :o :o tried to kick the beast away
but it was in my lap and my hands entagled in the belts
of the was a hedgehog and he made a Quick
Well i got the belts changed started to mowe the lawn
the mower was running fine the sun shining then.......
WHACK KABLOWIE .....and silence. The rod in the brigs&stratton
vanilla blender wanted to see the sun too >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Gas welding castiron
« on: May 26, 2013, 02:24:51 PM »
My Model A exhaust manifold had a crack.
So i tested some castiron rods for gas welding
i bought years ago
I have worked as a weldor for many years but
never tried gas welding castiron
It was more like cast in new material with the
old than welding
Had to poke around in the pudle get the slag to
float up to the surface
No problem with cracking when it cooled
why havent i tried this before
Intersting to see how it will hold up when im start
to drive it. Installed a German Ford high comp
head today going from 4.66-1to 8.5-1
They were made for running on Wood gas during
the war .Lets see if i pick up some extra horsepower

FE Technical Forum / No stroker for me
« on: April 15, 2013, 11:38:59 AM »
I have inspected my blocks and
no one is stroker material as i
see it and i want an engine for
the summer
stroker have to wait till i find a
So now i will rebuild my original
PI for the Galaxie
its bored 0.60 and sonic 0.100
in some spots .
The cyls are god so just a hone
and new rings
with one combination of heads i have
and the 10 cc dish pistons thats
in the block i get 10.5 ish C/R
if i take the block down to zero
and 0.040 gasket

with the cams i thinking about
comp cams  282S or 294S i get
dynamic C/R of 8.3 and 7.9.
We got 98 oktan in the pumps
here in sweden how much dynamic
C/R can that take

The heads are C1AE-A with CJ valves
and some cleanup porting  Streetmaster
intake  cast factory shorty headers
carb 750-780?? EFI later
I guess i will get Close to 400 hp ???
atleast with the 294s

Non-FE Discussion Forum / engine mounts on 400
« on: February 27, 2013, 04:29:06 PM »
Do any one know if the 400m have the same
engine mounts as the smallblock/Cleveland
I have oportunity to trade a 400 i have for a
410 FE. But to reach the 400 i have to shovel
a lot of snow i front of the barn i have stored
it in. And move a lot of good to have parts
just to see what kind of mounts it have.
Or better if any one can tell what it takes
to swap the 400 in place of the 410
 in a 64 Mercury

i now have the older type that
pull in the gear and it needs rebuilding
but i got several of the newer typ
on the shelf
I dont remember but i think i mounted
newer starters on older engines before
I gues i can test fit one but easier to ask ;D ;D

and sonic test the blocks. To see wich one if  any to use for
a stroker engine. ;D
Started monday morning cleaning up the shop. By 10 a clock
i had to take the wife to hospital 50 miles away.Home at 16

heat inside the car without fan but i can only drive 30 mph in the dark
without lights ::).Managed to get to the only gasstation on the route
where the car dies. Fine gasstations have spareparts right?? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
