Looking for an earlier non marked Nodular 9" case for my '63 Galaxie.

I have some parts to trade possibly or buy straight out.

Great looking car. What is the wheel/tire size combination? I see you've left the "no brakes" system intact! All good, enjoy your ride 8)

Those are 275/60s on the rear on 8" wides.

The big drums stop it better than I would think possible.

Shared this on the other forum and thought I'd share here as well.

Recently finished this project and thought I’d post some pics and contribute to the forum I enjoy so much.

I bought a ‘63 G code BoxTop Galaxie last year locally. I fell in love with the car immediately after seeing it. The previous owner priced it and I showed up later with cash in hand.

The car is a 42,000 mile “survivor” that still wears some of its original paint and has original upholstery.

The original 406 it was born with was not in the car. It had been replaced with a .060 over A scratch 428 with CJ heads and 6v induction. Cast iron shorties were there as well.

The previous owner had preferred Ford blue over the correct black/gold look under the hood, and while it looked ok my goal was to get it looking correct under the hood once again.

I chose to build another 428 block that I had picked up on a previous parts run for the car. I also opted for a set of nice 427 LowRiser heads instead of using the c2se 406 heads I have.

Build components:

.030 A scratch block
C3AE-H 427 heads
Original Ford dual point distributor
Original Ford 6v intake
Original Ford 6v Holleys
4.25 Scat crank
Scat I beams
Aftermarket steel flywheel
Mahle dish pistons
Custom Hydraulic Roller from Bullet
Morel roller lifters
Milodon deep sump oil pan
Trend pushrods
Harland Sharp needle bearing rockers
Gold powder coated THUNDERBIRD VCs

I’d like to thank the members of the forum publicly:

Dwayne Rader is my local resource and has been a personal friend since high school. He been an awesome guy to have around, and doesn’t hesitate to jump in with a wrench.

Greg Williams is also a local friend and I sourced the LR heads from him, along with the Scat rotating parts and oil pan.

Brent Lykins has been patient with my ignorant questions and supplied the custom specced Bullet cam, Trend pushrods and custom Harland Sharp rockers that oil through the pushrods along with other essential parts like timing chain, oil pump, gaskets and such.

Wes Adams rebuilt/recurved the distributor for me.

Jeff’s Carburetors Restoration did the replate/rebuild on the 3x2 Holleys.

And finally Gerald Coon of Shelbyville Ky took some time away from assembling some SOHC engines to expertly assemble/run in this wedge for me.

Dwayne’s help and knowledge made the engine swap as easy as it could possibly be and Greg’s parts were in excellent condition.

The distributor and carbs were on point from initial start.

The car is strong. Brent’s camshaft profile produces awesome power with the limitations of the stock(ish) heads and induction.

Thanks everyone!

It's been a few years, but the 390 linkage worked on a '64 with the FPA headers for me.

Any idea what the heads flowed after porting to make that power?

I don’t have any records of what the heads flowed. They were standard cast port Survival heads, but they were hand ported by Joe D. Craine. At a guess, around the 330cfm mark at 0.650”.

Thanks!

Debating on whether or not i should "waste" a set of TFS heads on the engine.

You can make 500+hp with a 406 6V set up, with a bit of work. Here’s a link to the engine I built for my 63 Galaxie. It made just over 540hp, while looking stock.

Thanks for that link. Awesome build.

I didn't want to say anything negative about that manifold, but on dyno testing, it did not equal a Performer RPM for power or torque.  It look great, but for looks only.  Joe-JDC

Good information, Thanks

I thought that it may be a better intake for a higher effort 406 build for my G code Galaxie, but maybe not.

Looking to make more than 500hp, but the restriction looks to be the 3x2 manifold.

Long shot, but does anyone have a 3x2 Tunnel Wedge for sale?

These were available from Carl's Ford Parts at one point, but no longer listed.

Here are some specifics:

CI scratch 428 .035 over
Scat 4.25 stroke crankshaft
Scat I Beam rods
Iron CJ heads
Comp 294s kit
Ford Lowriser 8V intake
2 750 Quickfuel carbs

The carbs, air cleaner and stroker kit came from Barry at Survival. The block has some sentimental value to me as it was in an old mudracer that our family campaigned in the 90's. I promised myself that i would resurrect it one day. It will be replacing a completely stock 428 CJ in my 64 Galaxie.
