FE Technical Forum / I Vote Robb MC! Re: Starter recommendations?
« on: December 22, 2018, 11:12:30 PM »
I got the Robb MC with a trunion support, he gets my vote! I loved it. Uses a Ford V10 starter motor as the base for it too!

Nice project!

The C8OE heads will hold it back some obviously, but i think it will be interesting.  Ill say 560-575 hp. If the heads are really good, 625 hp.

First make sure you have a 9" and not a 9 3/8".

Neat evenly sure, but comments above look good.

What i can say is i used to have a 3310 times by a local reputable shop, and the secondaries started opening at like 25% throttle.  It ran great, but got poor mileage, LoL.

I may have a line on a natural gas FT361. I was thinking"old hot rod" with center dump manifolds, and a Jay Brown intake adapter to block the exhaust cross over, and a Cleveland performer intake. Make a Rod cruiser with overdrive... 1500 rpm at 70 would be my goal.

Change the light spring to a heavy one.  Check if there is any loosenes inthe spring arm. Consider bending arm out slightly to tighten spring.

Make sure transfer ports in metering block are not too  lean. Make sure there is not any vacuum leaks.

Cool. But keep a spare belt with you on trips. Think v belts don't last as long as sepentine belts when being bent back and forth.

If it is a secondary carb I would block the PV.

On the low cam rpm, I have my eye on an industrial engine as back up power for a seat pump... pump normal rpm is 1800. It is a really old 361 on material gas. Mechanical temperature cut out set at 200 degrees.

Speedway sells a mr gasket offset carb space for Holley.

Or you can use edelbrock carbs. Prob decent driving, but...  May require custom tuning of butterfly weights to set secondaries to actually open.

Especially if you need a custom thickness!

Much of the character with low end and possible surging will be related to can duration and overlap. Week were Bret on cam timing, but advance in it should help.

Also consider having a set of edelbrock carbs for putt-putt driving... Or just don't done in traffic, thanks no fun anyway.

There are different shape gaskets, some round, some d shaped or Pentagon shaped to better match the chamber.

Gaps usually carbon in over time.

What you can not see in a piston picture is inside a stock piston casting is often a bar of steel to help reduce piston expansion when hot.

Offset pins are usually standard option especially on overbore sizes, and I prefer them if I have a choice.

That way too funny, but so true... When frustrated, sometimes just go a different direction for a time.  Can't wait to hear what is was. My last motor had really loose Pistons, but they were not at noisey as my mechanic season they might be.  Then it ate a sodium valve for lunch one day...oops, I'm the fool for missing those in the old CJ heads.

My bench build is running great except for a minor oil issue in cylinder 1 and 3.

Good luck!
