Does anyone know where I can purchase a water neck or thermostat housing spacer for an FE.  They are easy to find for Chevy and other makes but I haven't had any luck with FE.

Thanks for the responses.
Doug it is a Genesis block not an SOG.
When I bought the engine it was at 496 inches and had been used as a street/strip motor in a mustang. It was built in manner which would not be very streetable though. 13 to 1 compression .800 lift solid roller cam and so on. The previous owner didn't indicate any issues  with oil in the water. When I had it at the machine shop they said that they pressure checked the block (probably the water jacket). So I don't think that it is a porosity issue? but don't know for sure.
I wish that Craft Performance was still around so that they could deal with the issue. But who knows if they would have stood behind their work? At least I got my motor back from them I heard that a bunch of people lost money or worse lost their engines when they folded.
I will start with Re-torqueing the head bolts and manifold bolts , cleaning the radiator and water jacket and see if that takes care of the issue. If that doesn't do it I may try Jays fix.

FE Technical Forum / oil in water
« on: July 11, 2023, 03:21:14 PM »
I recently noticed a small amount of oil in my water. The motor has Dyno time and a few hours on the run stand.
How deep to I have to go to find the problem? Is there any easy fixes ?.
For starters the engine is a 505 inch FE with a  Genesis block, Scat crank, ported BBM heads, ported Edelbrock heads and other good parts internally. It has Cometic MLS head gaskets and ARP head studs also the block was decked for MLS. I had Craft Performance which unfortunately is no longer in business assemble the top end because the manifold and heads didn't quite line up, and required some machining. They also ran it on the dyno.
Is it a mater of re-torquing the head bolts or I need to tear into it?
Any ideas???
Thanks

Pm me a cell phone # and I will text you some pictures tomorrow . I am not very good at posting pictures. I will not be using the system so if you want to use a period correct system I would be willing to sell or trade for FE goodies

I don't have any info on how well it works unfortunately . But I recently bought a 1969 F100 Ranger truck which had either CNG or Propane set up on it. The system was installed in the late 70s or early 80s.  The truck was a barn find it was parked in 1989 and rescued in late 2020 . The engine in the truck is a 1966 427 side-oiler with period correct performance parts.  I have removed the CNG stuff from the truck fixed the small problems from sitting for so long and am currently driving it. I can send you pictures of the parts if you are interested.

It is my dream truck also. I have had several bumps over the years but never a crew 4x4.
As for my 428CJ plans those got derailed completely and I will at some point be selling my CJ engine. Sometimes enough is just not quite enough!!! I ended up purchasing a full race built 496 inch Genesis motor with most of the parts on it that I wanted for the 428 with the benefit of more cubic inches and cross bolted mains. When buying the motor I knew that for my application I would be rebuilding it and de-tuning it.
I am currently building the motor and am about to order rocker stand shims and my pushrods which are the last pieces of the puzzle.
505 Genesis block    4.25 forged scat crank   6.7 Oliver rods   9.7 to 1 Racetek pistons   BBM heads and Edelbrock port injection manifold ported and flowed by JDC    FE Power adjustable timing chain and cover   Hydraulic roller cam and lifters from Brent based on my build and flow numbers   Should make decent HP but more importantly massive torque !
While I am working on the motor the cab is at the paint shop on a rotisserie
The entire build is posted on    ford-trucks.com        the build thread is "1969 Crewcab 4x4 build"   if you want to see the build from the beginning

I am in the middle of doing a Resto-Mod on my 69 Crewcab Highboy. I have posted full build progress on a different site. Since it will be running FE power figured I would put a few pictures up here also.
This picture is from before the frame off, while it was still running a 429 with DOVE heads
I drove the truck for a while like this while trying to decide which direction I wanted to go with the build. At first I had planned on putting the body on a 2015 F-350 with a 6.7 frame and running gear. After some research and receiving a Marti report I started thinking about trying to keep it a little more stock or  at least completely changing the running gear. The Marti report says that in 1969 there were only 524 Crewcab 4x4 truck produced !!  Mine had factory air as well.
So  what to do ??   I am spoiled by the vast amounts of torque that my diesel Fords have, so knew I needed a torque motor. More stroke generally equal more torque so I decided to build a 428CJ. After looking for a long time I found one. During the hunt my build plans had morphed into something much more than a stock 428 CJ.  I had decided that is some stroke was good that more would be better!!! More stroke might need better heads?  Better heads might need better manifold? And who wants a carburetor when you can have fuel injection?
The plan became 428 CJ block with a C scratch with Scat 4.25 crank ported Edelbrock heads and ported Edelbrock EFI manifold.
Unfortunately the plans of mice and men can get changed or derailed.

The block would have to be grooved so that the oil hole in the Genesis block lines up with the hole in the MLS gasket at the stock hole location.

Watching these tests is very interesting as is your pursuit for more power by which many will eventually benefit .
I am definitely a newbie but I have a cam which might be of interest that you can have and try if you think it might be worth trying.
The specs are
Comp solid roller  307/320 advertised, 274/282 at .050, .799 gross valve lift at both lobes, 110LSA   Slightly larger than cam # 2 I think?
Lobe lift is .462 on both intake and exhaust .
If it is of interest let me know

I have not installed the gaskets yet. I am about to install them. The oil feed is inside of the embossed area but to be safe I think I need to drill a hole within the embossed area directly over the oil feed restrictor hole.

FE Technical Forum / Cometic MLS head gaskets ?
« on: January 31, 2021, 09:11:24 AM »
I purchased a motor which had been assembled but not run. I have since dissembled it and have had some machine work done and starting to build it to my needs. The motor is a Genesis block at 4.310 bore with ported BBM heads. The motor had 4.400 bore x .040 Cometic gaskets,  I have not used MLS gaskets on an FE before. My questions are
1    The gaskets are embossed does the raised surface install towards the block or toward the head.
2    The oil hole in the gasket does not line up with the hole in the block. The gasket has an embossed oval in that area but I don't think when torqued it will allow enough oil through. I think I need to drill the                     .     gasket. Is that typically the solution?

thanks in advance
David
