FE Technical Forum / Re: NW Machine shops
« on: March 22, 2023, 01:06:31 PM »

The shop I used was Johnson's Machine in Tumwater. Randy Kozar is the owner and a hardcore Ford guy. They have a torque plate for FE and had plenty of core parts available if needed. Honest, fair and easy to work with.

On an internet search of WW2 Fairmont- you come up with an Army Airfield in Nebraska that was used to train B-24 Liberator crews!

Still a camo paint scheme with some nose art. Can't wait to see this car on track Jay!

Yes scare lane definetly drives it like he stole it. Whoever built that motor knows his shit.

According to Jeff Jacobson's Skairlane FB page, it was Mike Faucher at Factory Billet Power who built the first version of his SOHC. He used Pond block and heads but had issues with the heads after 27 passes.

So it sounds like 1000hp goal with iron block and heads is a bit ambitious for it to have any durability within a realistic budget.
Tommy- thanks very much for your wisdom. Your car is a monster! Any comments on a Dyer's blower from anyone? How would running alcohol effect timing advance with the boost? Also would gapless rings and/or ported pistons or vacuum pump be more cost effective? Or run both? All the above?

Lots to learn and quite a few options to prioritize. Thanks again to all for your input.

I found one that Barry built some years ago that was 13+ psi and made 1000-1100hp on a short pull on his dyno. Street/ strip gasser Fairlane is sorta the goal. Heaps of Tri-5 Chevys running around my area so why not try and "one up" those bowties right?

Are there any roots blown FE examples to study and learn from out there?
Nothing too crazy in mind- 8-71, iron block, iron LR heads with forged internals burning alcohol.

I guess my questions would be what makes a "blower carb" what it is? Is lift not as important as spring pressure with boost or is overlap the factor to start with? Would titanium exhaust valves be worth it for heat resistance?

I finally got my short C6 kit done this summer as I was working on the bed floor of my F100. Glad to see the notes of the differences the fluid makes as there's lots of unconfirmed "info" out there.

The kits don't use the control box like Andy has anymore- it's a MSD module now so it's even smaller.

Only issue I had was my own mistake on swapping to the 1350 yoke on my rearend. Currently replacing pinion bearings and races so you know what I screwed up. lol

Can't wait for that first drive!

Something else interesting pulled from the Final Draft rules-
•Rear coilover conversions are only allowed on vehicles that were OE equipped with rear coil springs. Coilover conversions must be commonly available from a recognized manufacturer and they must bolt in place on the stock frame.
•Relocated shock mounting points are allowed and the mounts may be custom fabricated.

UPR has a few options for bolt-in kits:

https://www.uprproducts.com/ford-vehicles/mustang/1979-1993-mustang/suspension/coil-over-kits/

As for the bolt-in 9" housing with Foxbody suspension brackets:

https://www.strangeengineering.net/product-category/drag-racing-rear-ends/ford-9-inch-rear-end/?product_tag=ford-nine-inch-housings

Moser Engineering makes a bolt-in 9" with upper arm mounts 3" higher than OEM, which I thought was interesting to check out. Lots of options out there.

I have their dual O2 installed in my F100. It's a little more involved for a temporary use I'd say. Innovate's instructions call for O2 sensors no closer than 24" to the port but also before any crossover pipe. I'm not sure how much the leaded fuel would affect the sensors if it's tuned right.

Any photos you can share of the printed version? What's the final finish on these? Anodized or bare?

Not my stuff but wanted to share:

Probably set as a "private group" but there's been a stash of FE parts listed out of Tennessee today.

As always, a project is never "done".

Fan shroud got changed along with a new Cold Case 16" fan and re-fabbed the overflow bottle bracket.

Also added a Innovate Motorsports dual wideband O2 gauge.

Making plans for a GV over/under drive since 4.10s aren't fun on the highway so looks like there might be some exhaust changes too.

Had a great weekend at the Goodguys show 2 weekends ago with my project though!!
