FE Technical Forum / Re: Gasket Matching Opinions Wanted
« on: July 15, 2019, 09:27:17 AM »
Thanks for the excellent responses guys that was exactly what I was looking for.  I won’t get close to the 700hp mark so I’ll leave the ports where they are.  I’m not opposed to increasing to a 4.25” stroke for 482ci but even I’m looking at closer to the 600hp mark.  Thanks again!

FE Technical Forum / Gasket Matching Opinions Wanted
« on: July 14, 2019, 11:12:36 PM »
Hey guys, looking for an opinion on whether or not to gasket match my heads and intake.  I feel like I should know the answer to this but my engine building experience so far has been pretty much bolt together affairs so I want to consult the experts before spending money or time and effort that might be detrimental to my goal in the first place.  Basically I'm building a 427 (stock bore and stroke) with edelbrock medium rise heads and a BBM tunnel wedge intake.  For fuel delivery I'll be using a FAST or equivalent 2x4 fuel injection setup.  I know that the intake I'm using is large for my cubic inches.  That being said, the intake ports on the heads and intake match absolutely perfectly right out of the box; it's like they were cast together and then cut apart.  I still plan on installing larger 2.19 valves in the heads, but would there be any benefit to gasket matching the heads and intake to a larger size?  It is going in a light street vehicle with normal street operation.  With the amount of cubes I'm running would gasket matching kill any port velocity I have?  I realize it would move the power band higher in the RPM range but it will be a stop and go/freeway car in the first place.  Sorry for being long winded.

FE Technical Forum / Status of Dove Manufacturing
« on: May 14, 2018, 09:47:28 PM »
Hey guys I haven’t been able to find anything about this with a google or forum search so I apologize if this is common knowledge and has been discussed already.  In any case I called Dove Manufacturing today to inquire about purchasing one of their manifold style PCV kits, and they said they were out of stock and were in the process of going out of business. I was sad to hear this as that’s one less source of FE specific parts out there.  I don’t know if they have any inventory left, but if anyone is in the market for any Dove parts it might be worth it to try them while there’s still time.

Private Classifieds / Re: FE Weber Intake and Carbs for Trade

One thing I forgot to mention is I wanted to run a mechanical fuel pump with this, so the needle and seats were replaced with Jaycee glass ball versions that are supposed to be able to take up to 9 PSI.  Will include the originals as well.

Private Classifieds / FE Weber Intake and Carbs for Trade
« on: April 10, 2018, 10:49:12 AM »
Hey all, wanting to trade my Weber intake and carbs.  I love the look but it is an engine swap and I'm looking to do something with a little more tech in the car.  Intake is a BT MR that has never been run.  There is a bung for a temperature sensor that has been epoxied in and there are 4 holes in between the front 2 carbs for mounting a 1x4 fuel distribution block if needed.  Water crossover fitting is included.  Carb mounting gaskets are included.  Carb studs, washers and nuts are all ARP and are included.4 carburetors are included and they are EPC48 carbs that are all new.  The EMPI logos have been ground off of all of them, they have been blasted and painted with ceramic paint.  This is basically a replica of the setup Jay used in his dyno testing, so 43mm chokes and associated jets are used.  All the extra jets I have are included as well.  Linkage is included.  I didn't want to run this on the street without filters, so 4 Inglese short stacks and K&N filters are included.  These are supposed to pop on to the stacks but some stay and some don't hence the band clamps.  The tops are just chromed plates but the screws in them are just for looks and don't actually attach to anything.  Clamps for 8 filters and the remaining chrome discs and hardware are included as well.  A fuel line is included that consolidates to a 3/8 inlet with fittings and copper gaskets.

I'd like to trade this for a BBM single plane 2x4 intake that they have.  If you add all of this up it's a good deal IMO.  If interested or you have any questions please send me a PM.

Thanks for the pictures guys they're worth a thousand words.  All of the ones I've found on eBay being advertised as 65-66 are stamped pieces so I'll keep an eye out for a cast one.  Right know I'm using the correct single sheave water pump pulley for a 65 427, so if I convert to PS does the belt loop the water pump pulley too or only the crank pulley?  I'm using a stock type balancer for a 427 where the timing tab indexes on a mark on the pulley and not the balancer body.  This pulley is not removable; is there a secondary bolt on pulley for it?

As always thank you for your knowledge.

Thank you sir!  I've found a couple on eBay that state they are from 65-66 galaxies but they appear to be stamped pieces.  I'm very interested to see what you have.

OK thanks guys.  I guess I'll just look for a bracket that would have been used in 65 and make it work.  I've been toying with ditching the quad Weber setup and going with a dual quad EFI that would do away with the fuel filter, etc. anyway.  I also want to run hydraulic power brakes off the power steering as well.  If anybody has any part #'s to brackets that I should keep an eye out for let me know.

Thanks as always.  It's just as fun reading about other people's experiences with their FE as it is finding out info about your own.

FE Technical Forum / 427 8V Power Steering Bracket - Does It Exist?
« on: May 15, 2017, 11:28:16 AM »
Hello all - I'm trying to swap an FE into a car that was not originally equipped with one, but I want it to have a factory appearance.  After much thought, I've decided that I want power steering in this vehicle.  The Oreillyauto website shows a power steering V belt for a 65 Galaxie with a 427, but I can't seem to find a picture of what one would have looked like on the car to determine the correct 1965 brackets.  I would think this is a tough setup with the fuel filter canister , etc. located where it is.  Does anybody know if PS was an option on the 427 8V equipped cars and if so, what was the bracket part number(s)?  Thanks in advance!

Private Classifieds / Re: WTB Overdrive Toploader Dallas Area

If you have one and you're not in the Dallas area I would consider buying if the shipping on it is not too steep.  It's my understanding Fastenal does loose freight shipping cheaply.  There are a lot of those around me so I could definitely have one shipped to one of their locations.  If someone has one of these transmissions but is far away still contact me and we might be able to hash something out.  Thanks for reading.

Hey guys I'm looking for an iron case overdrive toploader (one of David Kee's toploader imposters) for my mustang project.  Planning on installing the large diameter short input shaft to hook up to my FE and replace the main shaft and tail housing with 31 spline parts.  I thought it would be an easy task to find one here in the Dallas area but I've contacted every salvage yard returned in a Google search and they either don't have one or don't speak English.  Does anybody have one laying around they could stand to part with?

FE Technical Forum / Bllhousing Bolt Recommendation
« on: February 28, 2016, 07:51:04 PM »
I finally got my engine off the engine stand and on to a set of motofeet to mock up the transmission.  Unfortunately I don't have any stock bellhousing to block bolts so I'm going to pick up some chromoly ones from ARP.  Does anybody know what would be an acceptable length into the block?  I'm using a cast iron bellhousing so 1" of the bolt length is taken there.  I don't want to go too long as the equalizer bar bracket can contact one of these bolts if it is too long.  With 6 bolts clamping them together, would 0.5" of threads into the block per bolt have sufficient strength to hold things together assuming @ 550HP?  I'm pretty sure 1" of threads into the block will bottom out in places.  Anybody have any real world experience?  Any and all expertise is appreciated!

FE Technical Forum / Re: FE Block Plate

Thanks guys - those posts contained the information I was looking for.  I'll scour the aisles of Home Depot for something that will work.  Here's a few shots of my progress so far.  A couple of the stacks have a different sheen than the rest.  I'll address that at some point - maybe have them chromed when I have the inspection cover chromed.

FE Technical Forum / FE Block Plate
« on: February 15, 2016, 09:15:26 AM »
Hey guys - I've got my mock engine together for my 65 Mustang project and am now transferring it off the engine stand and onto some motofeet in order to mock up the bellhousing and transmission.  I was able to find a block plate on Ebay and there were no part numbers on it; only the FoMoCo stamp.  It has the 3 holes for the oil galley plugs.  I believe this is the correct one for a 1965 but if not, please let me know as I'm going for period correctness here even though this engine was not available from the factory in this car.  In cleaning the plate up and blasting it it appears that there are some remnants of an adhesive rubber strip at the bottom on the side that faces the block.  In all of my research trying to find out what this is the only thing I've found is that there may have been some sort of seal on the transmission side of the plate for the inspection/flywheel cover.  Can anyone verify if there were actual seals on this thing, which side they were on or both, and what they were made of/where to get them?
