Question for the technical minded person. Are the front upper A arms on a boss 429 mustang the same length as the A arm for a 428 car?

After the heads get developed I want Mr Brown to produce a block with a raised cam tunnel. We can only go so big with the bore but we could stroke the heck out of it. I know it might not look like the way to go but I will take cubic inches anyway I can get them.

Hey Tommy, I have run that exact set up with Edelbrock heads that have 2.25 intake and 1.75 exhaust valves on a 4.160 bore 428 block with 4.250 stroke. My cam has a .572 lift. The car has been to three Hot Rod Drag Weeks and the motor has been in the car for seven years. Things are close but so far I have had no problems

Yep headlight doors are gutted, strange disc brakes on all 4 wheels and fiberglass bumpers. We installed lighter front tires in front and saved 10 lbs and replaced the 36 lb battery with an EarthX battery that weights only 3.9 lbs went with a lighter trans cooler did a little more scraping on the undercoating and all that added up to almost 50 lbs lighter than last year. Scott may have lost a couple lbs also. Also we are running QA1 double adjustable shocks in the rear and strange double adjustable in the front. But it is just unbelievable how much the rear is twisting. We have some ideas how to stop that so hope they work.

Hey Doug that would be pretty neat to run to FE's together gets more attention anyway. My cougar does have a 4.25 stroke crank in a 428 block but it was built about 14 years ago and has only 9 to 1 compression and a small hydraulic cam 227 degrees at .050. I built it for a supercharger with about 10 lbs boost but never got around to get it installed so I just run it as is. It probably does run a little better than when it had the stock 428CJ engine in it.

Quick story. At the union grove track Scott and I were lined up to run each other again however there was a very nice young fellow with a very nice 68 or 69 Camaro with a big block and 4 speed in front of Scott that thought he was going have to rum Scott but he did not want to run Scott he wanted to run me because he thought he could beat my stock 68 R code cougar. So he ask if he and Scott could change positions and we said yes that would be ok. Eugene had told the kid that the old man was going to beat him but I don't think he believed it. So we finally got to the line lights flashed on a .4 tree Camaro beat me at the light a little because he had a clutch and I was just leaving off idle. Pulled up beside him in 1st gear hit 2nd gear and pulled a 1/2 car on him hit 3td gear and beat him a little over a car length. Other than Scotts win that was the most fun I had all week. And that rear suspension in Scotts car will be taken car of before next year. We did not realize it until we put the wheelie on that the the rear axle is rotating very badly so bad that the bar which is 8 inches off the ground hits the ground before the front lifts so when he uses the trans brake it just unloads the suspension. However that speaks volume about that Blair Patrick power to make it work as good as it bid with the axle wrapping up so badly.

The scoop on the car in the road trip picture is just a plexiglass cover to keep rain water out of the carbs. The scoop that he runs down the track was made by a company in Florida. Shucks can't recall their name but they done a good job making it. I could fine there name if anyone is interested.

Drag Week 2015 / Re: Four Drag Week Winners
« on: September 28, 2015, 08:05:59 PM »
Dang Jay that is just awesome. You might be correct cause I can't think of anyone else with four cars in the winters circle. If Scott would have chosen super street this year he would have had Ist place in that class. I think all he needed to do was add a piece of fiberglass somewhere. Again that is a great accomplishment with those four cars. I think Hot Rod should do an article on it.

Hey Jay,
Glad to see you made it in. Looks like you have some work to do but that's the fun part. Scott and I were at Beaver Springs this past Saturday and missed the registration by a few minutes. I think he is # 16 and I am # 25 on the wait list so I guess we will see what happens. Anyway have fun and I sure hope some other FE combos got in.

Ever since last September I've been thinking about Drag Week 2014.  I came back last year pretty disappointed in my performance, and it was clear in restrospect
that I just hadn't been very prepared for the event.  This was the same situation as 2012, when I tried to bring three cars but didn't make it with any due to
last minute problems, and 2011, when my Shelby clone was pretty much brand new and I had thrashed like mad just to get it finished before the event.  Last time
I won my class, in 2009, I'd been much better prepared.  I had resolved this year to make a better effort, so that I could at least finish the race.

Watching the message boards and Hot Rods website it was clear that Drag Week had mushroomed in popularity.  Last year all the spots sold out in 8 hours; in
previous years they had never even sold out all the spots.  This took me by surprise last year, and I ended up not getting registered; I had to go down to Bowling
Green with the car and hope somebody cancelled so I could get in.  This year the talk was that even more people wanted to attend than last year, so last fall I
started to get worried about even being able to sign up.  With my intake manifold project going also, this uncertainty had the unanticipated effect of keeping
me from getting too motivated on getting my car done for the event.  I sweated this situation out for most of the winter while the race car sat, but finally
Hot Rod came out with a statement in March that they would give a week's warning on their web site before registration went live.  Again I was concerned because in the
middle of April I was going to be in Europe for 10 days, and didn't know if I would have the time, or the internet access, to get online and register if it happened to be
while I was there.  Fortunately for me, my trip came and went without any news from Hot Rod.  Then a week ago the registration information was posted:  Saturday, April 26,
9:00 AM Pacific time.

Well, with all these people wanting to register I didn't know if I could even get in!  So on Saturday at 9:00 AM Pacific time, there I was hitting the refresh key
over and over again, waiting for the registration link to go live.  As mentioned elsewhere all the spots for DW14 went in 8 minutes, but I was lucky enough to get in.

So, now I have a car that is apart, that needs to go back together and get to the track as soon as possible, so that I can be a little more prepared this year when
the event finally rolls around.  I decided to put together another Road to Drag Week board to chronicle my progress.  The car I want to bring is my '69 Shelby clone,
but if worst comes to worst and I don't get it ready in time, I can bring my Mach 1 instead, which is essentially together, needing only about 10 hours of work to
finish the wiring project I started on it last year.  But I'd really rather bring the other car.  Here's a couple of photos of it in its current state:

Right now I'm working on getting the oil pan for my dry sump setup finished up; once I have that done I have to go through the heads, replacing the Ferrea valves with the Manleys that flow so much better, then get the whole thing put together, and finally put the sheet metal intake that I built for this engine a couple years ago on it.  Then, I have to mount the crank and cam sensors, and get the MS3X EFI system all wired up so I can dyno the engine.  Hopefully the dyno work will go smoothly and I can get that done in a weekend.  I'm targeting the end of May for the engine to be together and dynoed, and ready to go in the car.

Then of course I have to put the car back together, and change the wiring all around to remove the ems-pro EFI system and install the MS3X system in its place.  I also need to replace the rear end gears with a set of pro gears (there are street gears in it now), and get the car running and driving.  Hopefully I can get all that done by the end of June.  If I can keep that schedule I'll have a few weekends to sort the car out at the track, and plenty of time to drive it on the street, before I have to head to the event in September.  My history of keeping schedules is miserable, but I'm going to give it a try.  I guess even if I'm a little late, as long as I get some track time on the car it should be OK.

We will see what happens.  I will try to post a weekly update on my progress - Jay

Drag Week 2013 / Re: Jack Miller's Cougar at Drag Week
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:40:55 PM »
The car has been down the track at Bowling Green 3 times, two of those times it was having serious carb problems which turned out mostly to be a faulty fuel pressure ga plus we were having other issues with the carbs also. On the last run we got a 10.04 at 132+ mph but it was laying down in every gear. When I got back to the pits it took 2 gallon of water to fill it back up. Couldn't figure out where it was going until my son looked under the car and water was running out of the exhaust on the drivers side. As far as et I believe it should run 9.60s to 9.70s at about 138 to 139 mph. Have to get it fixed and try again.
