FE Technical Forum / Re: “Autolite” AGM battery

....

Is there any type of non standard maintenance that you perform or do you just treat it as you would any battery?

If the vehicle doesn't see regular use, keep it on a battery tender.

Thanks for that!

Is anyone using an AGM Autolite battery in their Galaxie or other classic?

What are the downsides beyond the ridiculous cost?

Does anyone have an alternative that looks right?

FE Technical Forum / Re: Fan shroud for 63 Galaxie 427
« on: January 02, 2024, 01:14:35 PM »
Shouldn't need the shroud if everything is healthy. I thought I needed extra cooling in my G Code until currently.

I'm running a 4.25 stroke x 4.16 bore FE with 3x2 induction and cast headers, and once timing was sufficiently advanced it runs right at the thermostat's calibration at long idle, traffic or running down the two lane at speed in any ambient conditions.

This is with factory radiator, correct fan and spacer.

No issues.

I looked in Jay's book, looks to me that the 3x2 manifold is actually lower in the front than the 2x4. Same dimension in the rear of the manifold.

Where is the hood interfering with the air cleaner? I'm somewhat puzzled by it, ours clears by a fair margin.

Basically everywhere.

Wingnuts mostly

It’s not just barely touching, it’s full contact.

We can save the cost of shipping if you want, Nathan. I'll order an extra 2 3/8" and swap you one for the 3" if you want?

Thanks Greg, sounds like a plan.

Well, I can confirm that the 3" filter will not fit under the hood in a '63 Galaxie with a factory 6v set up. No spacers under the carbs, just gaskets.

Anyone need a 3" filter lol?

Good Deals! / Brent Lykins
« on: June 12, 2023, 08:16:19 AM »
Just wanted to drop a note here and say what a pleasant transaction(s) I had with Brent Lykins on my 406 (ish) G code engine build.

Brent supplied the following:
Valves
Roller Lifters
Custom Roller Cam
Pushrods
Roller Rockers
Timing Chain
Oil Pump
Gaskets

Brent warned me that the overall output of the engine (stroker) would be restricted by the cast iron heads and 3x2 factory intake manifold, but I'm super happy with the performance. I'm sure that fact is due in no small part to his camshaft selection.

Brent was super responsive and sometimes it seemed like the parts showed up before i paid lol.

Overall awesome experience.

3" fit on flat hood cars with lowriser intake?

Approximate cost?

Looks way more "correct" than the K&N I'm using.

I’m a bit over 6’3” and I’m comfortable.

As of right now, I'm still waiting on the crankshaft to come in from Winberg.  I have two billet cranks on order, one from Winberg, the other from Bryant....about $10000 in two cranks.  I ordered the one from Bryant last year, they told me 24 weeks.  I'm still 6-8 weeks out on that one...

Heads are ported and assembled.  Intake is ported.  Cam is here, lifters are here, pistons are hung on the rods, rings are filed, etc.  Just waiting on a crank.

Any chance there will ever be enough interest to get several of the flat plane cranks made for interested parties?

Do you think there will be any issues as far as reliability with this? I know there are other flat plane crank v8s, but almost all are much smaller displacement.
