What’s the capacity on it?

Hey Brent,  ice looking pans and a good idea I think. Most street guys would be just fine with that pan. Have you done any testing with it?

Exactly Jim, no 1/2 tons come with full crew cab and a long bed. I would go 3/4 ton to get those features but I cannot afford the 6.7 and refuse to go 6.0 or 6.4 or older. The 6.2 didn't impress neither.

"I don't see where you can buy an extended cab Ford WITHOUT rear doors? What year are you looking at?"

Jim, I said extended cab with rear opening doors. Fords are forward opening doors.

Katz, I've never used the online techs for help. Do you have a link?

Yes reliability was certainly a factor in why I bought a Tundra. I really wish they made a 3/4 ton as this Tundra will be a compromise for me coming from a 250. Long term I will likely have to switch back to 3/4 ton.

Fixing things that break, aside, I still find forums valuable when it comes to maintenance, upgrades, "is this thing normal for this truck", talking tech talk, etc.

So do you guys have a forum you use for this? Or what is your resource?

I just bought me a tundra, sorry ford doesn't make an extended cab with  rear opening doors. so I am looking for a good forum. The ones I have found so far don't inspire much confidence. I get the  impression tundra owners don't wrench much, more interested in dressing them up. Shocker.

FE Technical Forum / Re: affordable oil to use for a run and dump
« on: September 27, 2018, 05:27:42 PM »
I hear ya, but if VR-1 or Rotella will do the job for a run and dump why bother driving two hours and fighting traffic? And to be clear the cam and lifters in this motor are already broke in, just need operating protection. I know oils are subject to change so I did not want to assume what was good 4 years ago is still good today. Thanks for the confirm.

FE Technical Forum / affordable oil to use for a run and dump
« on: September 27, 2018, 10:33:26 AM »
I am putting the 410 back together after a coolant leak in the oil and top end rebuild (didn't touch the cam or lifters). It was never milk shaky, just snot in the valve covers and under the manifold. I will of course dump the old oil and filter then run it for a cycle and dump the oil and filter again. I normally run brad penn, but don't see the need to spend the $$ and time (local dealer is a ways away and keeps limited hours) for a run and dump like this. What are folks using these days, non synthetic, for solid lifter motors? I know Valvoline VR1 used to be popular, so was Rotella (don't remember which flavor). Are these still good candidates for high ZDPP? What other affordable options are out there for this purpose? Thanks

hey Jay, thanks for chiming in. it's nice to hear some hands on feedback on these aftermarket blocks. Pick a block of your choice, in your opinion whats the max boost it could take? At this point I assume the mains dropping or splitting is still the weak point?

I was talking to my brother about this build and we got on the question of what this thing could handle for max boost. It seems they addressed most concerns, thicker cylinder walls, forged top fuel internals, thicker decks, stronger block. I questioned head clamping but from what I can see (internet searching) the 4.6 only has 10 bolts/studs per head and they can hold in the 60 psi range. So why not this cammer? Unless mod motors' fasteners drill deeper into the block and have better retention/clamping over a FE? Or did Pond address something(s) with the head studs to help? Keeping it sealed up at those boost levels aside, I have my concerns over the chain, detonation and valve train control at those levels but what are your thoughts on theoretical max boost numbers?

So theoretical aside what is the max boost folks are actually running on a FE these days? I am excluding that billet build that came out awhile back, that is a unique corner case. I can't remember specs on Jay's builds but my memory has it that I have seen folks in the 20's range with a FE. Also specify wedge vs cammer.
