FE Technical Forum / Re: Starter for 73 truck with headers
« on: November 30, 2023, 11:13:21 AM »
On a '68 model, I've had good success with a Powermaster.  They have several versions, I think mine is the Powermaster Mastertorque Starter 9606.  Mine is the black bodied one.  In my case it worked with Hooker headers where the factory starter wouldn't fit.  It is clock-able at the mounting face also, so it can be swung around for some adjustment with fit.

I also have one of the RobbMc mini starters as a spare, but haven't actually had it on the engine to verify; but I'm confident it will fit because it's small bodied (and by reputation is supposed to be a great option).

On second thought --- I was initially fairly certain I could get my starter in and out with the header still bolted on, but the only time I've needed to do so was when I was also removing the bell-housing.  So now I've got a little doubt as to whether or not I could just do a starter replacement by itself, I'd need to go have a look from the bottom side and refresh my memory.

If still available, I'd like first crack at this.  It may serve a purpose for an upcoming project.  I'll send you a PM in a little while, but I have to step out and run an errand.

Interesting write up, thanks for taking the time.  It's hard to believe the current state of affairs in the machine shop industry, and in the country as a whole right now.  Sending a PM with a followup question.

Thanks for the updates, looks and sounds like it was another solid event.  I'd really like to make it to at least one in the near future.

I do have a Facebook login, but I go there very seldomly; so if there is anything FE related that's interesting and it's going on strictly in the "Facebook World", and not on one of the FE Forums, I'm most likely missing it.

Maybe I’ve missed something somewhere, but how was the turn out for this year? Regarding car count for those participating by showing their cars or racing, as well as just spectators, did it do as well as previous years? This is the first year I can recall so little comment after the fact and I haven’t seen anyone post any videos anywhere. Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention beforehand but I didn’t even catch whether Jay B., or Barry R., or Blair P. went this year.

I always appreciate and value your comments, and do hope you chime in when you get a chance.  Hope you can enjoy many retirement years and get all your projects finished.

Sent a PM regarding the Distributor and gear, I'm not positive the message sent correctly, so let me know if you didn't get it.

427 for sale, not mine ------- FWIW, Someone around Indiana may find this interesting, I'm not sure how much of this is even usable as is, says block has 8 sleeves, says is has a "new Reath billet 8 counter weight cross drilled crank".  Listed for $6500.
