Vendor Classifieds / Edelbrock Performer
« on: August 07, 2021, 01:08:49 PM »
I have a nearly new, unmolested, Edelbrock Performer manifold for sale.  $200 plus ship.  captcj at hughes dot net.

Also have a used Comp hyd flat tappet cam. XE262H with Comp lifters.  This has approximately 200 miles on it.  Cam and lifters made it through the break-in, and lifters are in order. I still would put some moly on it but it has already made the hurdle in my opinion.  Cam and lifters  $125 plus ship.

*Comp 926 springs and matching retainers from above cam.  $65

Thanks

FE Engine Dyno Results / Mild 535 inch Hillbilly Prep Nostalgia FE
« on: September 04, 2020, 09:47:09 PM »
We ran this unit last week.  There was a little more in it, based on past info, but we ran out of time.  Customer was looking for around 800 hp, and 700-ish torque, so when we got past there, we didn't beat it on it too hard.  I had 31° timing in it, but it had a rather large dome by my standards, and a 72 cc chamber.  I usually run much smaller chambers, with just a bump dome, but these heads migrated from another project, so more dome was needed.  I think another 2.5 ° would have shown more power.  I reckon they can test that in the vehicle.

Cubic inch:                 535    (4.345 x 4.500)
Peak Horsepower:    893 at 6500 rpm
Peak Torque:             794 at 5100 rpm
Compression ratio:  13.5:1
Camshaft:                 .700 lift solid roller
Heads:                     BPE   MR Race Pro Port Edelbrock
Manifold:                 BPE modified BBM Tunnel Wedge
Carbs:                       940-ish cfm modified center squirters, inline with factory style linkage.

Where is Leonard Nimoy when I need him?  I need an upper distributor for a Mickey Thompson Cross Ram manifold.  I have the correct lower piece.  I need one to dyno with on carbs.  I'll have to machine the customer's dual synch for dual EFI throttle bodies, but I just need to run the engine before we ship.  Any help appreciated.

*We just received a fresh pallet of Pro Ports to start the new year.  There are MANY options on these.....valve sizes, intake ports, exhaust ports, and chamber volumes.  From stock Medium Riser location flanges to super radical Medium and even High Riser intake port configurations and relocated exhaust ports that come with flanges included.  I guarantee we can create the best currently available wedge FE heads for any application from the Pro Port casting platform, and our plethra of proven programs.  Efficient chambers that only require low 30s for total timing, and chamber volume options from 80cc to 58cc without excessive milling from Edelbrock as-shipped deck demensions.

*Pond Medium and High Riser heads are coming through.  Several options on these heads.  I designed the intake port on the new High Riser heads, and they have a very good exhaust port that Robert used from his Medium Riser aluminum heads.

*BBM heads, also several options.  I have an affordable new cnc chamber program for these that really improves the 0-.450 lift flow, and also a new cnc intake program for 2.220 valves that is average 25 cfm better than the as-cast heads.  The as-cast BBM chamber is very efficient, and the exhaust ports are also very good.   BBMs with the cnc chamber and intake port, with a hand cleanup in the exhaust are a great bang for the buck if Pro Ports are out of your budget.

*We also have cnc iron "EMC heads",  Trick Flow with upgrades, anything Edelbrock at great prices, and also work on any OE iron heads, Blue Thunder, or any FE wedge or SOHC castings.

We have a second seat and guide machine in the pipeline.....planning to expand our capability on FE cylinder heads in the new year.

If interested in heads or head work, please email to captcj at Hughes dot net.  We can establish a communication line and discuss your needs/options.

Thanks very much!

I've been collecting pieces for a while to do this.....I've wanted to do a "max effort" 352 all my life. Here's what I have on my mind, and about half of it ordered, or on the floor now.

* Sleeved down "worn out" 427 block
* Scat forged 3.5 stroke forged crank
* Crower 6.590 length billet rods Honda 1.888 journal
* CP pistons with domes to fit Pro Port chamber
* "Race" version BP Pro Ports 2.200/1.600 valves
* 52cc combustion chambers
* 14.5 static compression
* Steel bushed T&D
* .937 Crower Enduramax bushed lifters
* .900 lift, 60 mm Comp Eliminator profile camshaft
* Danny Bee belt drive
* Worked BBM tunnel wedge
* Two 1030 cfm 4150 carbs

Planning for 10,000+ rpm.  I am building this for my own toy, but if one of the Gasser guys wants it, I will probably sell it.  It's just something I have always wanted to do, so I think over the next six months we are going to try to work it in. The goal is 2.3 to 2.5 hp per cube.  Stay tuned.......

Vendor Classifieds / CNC iron heads
« on: October 19, 2019, 07:41:09 AM »
Well, we sold the heads off the Engine Masters engine before we got home.  We cut four more pairs last week, three of which are also sold.  I have one pair currently not spoken for that is ready for finish work.  We are selling the heads for $2200 including valves and all finish work, ready for springs, at 75cc chamber volume.  We can mill more for a minor additional cost.  I would stop at 70cc to leave plenty of deck thickness.  We ran the contest heads at 71 cc.

If you have heads that you want to have ported, we can port and do all finish work, ready for springs for $2K.  The programs will work on any LR 427 castings, C4ae-G, C6ae-R, Cobra Jet N heads, and most any other Low Riser style general production FE heads.  I try to run four or five sets at a time, as there is a set up change for doing iron castings on the cnc mill.  If interested, contact me via email at captcj at hughes dot net, or call the shop at 423-837-1514.  Email is the best for initial contact.  Thanks very much.

FE Technical Forum / Amsoil
« on: October 05, 2019, 09:00:22 AM »
I am an old dog at this point, and I have been religious in my use of Valvoline VR1 for a long time.  We bought Valvoline racing oil way back when you needed a screwdriver to poke two holes in the top to pour it in.......unless you had one of those fancy pour spouts.

Amsoil was the required oil (and a major sponsor) for Engine Masters.  They sent us oil to test with, and furnished oil for the contest.  I was reluctant, but I used it from beak-in, to their synthetic......through our 24 test pulls.  We had to show up dry, and they gave us oil at the contest to prevent the possibility of performance enhancing additives.

I looked at the break in oil and first filter pretty closely.  I also looked at the second filter and first oil change closely.  I liked what I was seeing. We made 9 or 10 more pulls in the 35 minute scoring window at the contest.  We had to pull a rod and piston for teardown at EMC.  My suspicion was confirmed.  The rod bearing litterally looked like it had not been run. There are of course factors of supply, clearance, and temperature that contribute, but the oil definitely did what it was intended to do. I have a very high opinion of the Amsoil now, and thought I would mention here that it is worth looking at for both a break-in and a "run" oil.  Very happy with it!

Mine is .575 lift also, after lash.  Same rules as Joe and Barry.  Mine is a .046 overbore 390, 3.79 stroke, and I used C4AE-G heads.  Works out to right at 400 cubes.  (mbrunson you can't guess in this game!)

FE Technical Forum / Jay Brown Timing Cover
« on: September 14, 2019, 10:28:21 AM »
I realize this is the wrong spot but I am trying to find a Jay timing cover with the removable front plate as soon as possible.  Mr. Jay can send me one, but not before next Friday.  I need one in my hand by Wednesday to do some testing on my Engine Masters junk.  If you have one on the shelf and would be willing to send it to me, I will replace it.  Another can be in your hand in about ten days.  I will pay all shipping.  If you can help, please PM me on here.  Any assistance much appreciated. I apologize for using up the space on the tech page, but trying to make this happen......
