Non-FE Discussion Forum / Columbus Swap meet… worth the trip?
« on: March 31, 2024, 10:44:28 PM »
I am considering going but for me it’s a 13 hour drive one way. I’d just like some input on what I might expect and is it worth the drive. I have never been but the idea of an all Ford swapmeet is appealing.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / I'm signed up for Sick 66
« on: March 02, 2024, 01:02:07 PM »
Well I'm in. I signed up for Sick 66. It is an epic 9 day drag-n-drive event starting at Ozark Raceway near Springfield Mo. and ending in Albuquerque NM following Route 66. Instead of an event that starts and begins at the same track, this is a one way event so it's going to be over 2000 miles for me.
So I am going to be cruising Route 66 in my '66 this year... if all goes well. :)

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Over torqued Eagle rod bolts question.
« on: March 01, 2024, 01:00:20 PM »
I was checking the bearings on my BBF and I couldn't remember for sure what the torque was so I looked up the ARP bolt spec and it said 80 Ft lbs. That didn't sound right but I went ahead and torqued it to that spec and put the pan back on. However, the more I thought about it the more that didn't sound right. So I got on Eagle's  website and looked up the rod with the ARP bolt I am using and it said 63 ft. lbs. which was more in line with what I was thinking. So I pulled the pan off and retorqued them to that spec. I then remembered my machine shop added torque specs on their labor bill data sheet and I checked there it also said 63 ft lbs. I guess my question is would that hurt anything? I can't see that it would but I don't know either. Thanks.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Anyone signing up for Dragweek 2024?
« on: February 23, 2024, 05:34:02 PM »
I see registration starts tomorrow morning (2-24).  This year it and RaceWeek 2.0 will be happening at the same time so it may free up some entries. I think I will get on the waiting list and try for Raceweek.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Has Crites ended their business?
« on: February 05, 2024, 10:20:39 PM »
I got on their website and it said due to their Father's passing and to settle his estate they will be closed Dec 31, 2023. I couldn't decide if that meant they were closed for good or just closing that day.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Sick Week overall leader (so far)
« on: January 31, 2024, 09:11:18 PM »
I have been watching some of the Sick Week event and so far the overall leader is Brett Lasala in a 2012 Mustang running a stock block Ford 5.0 Coyote with twin turbos. His average so far is 6.38. To add insult to injury he is running in a radial class! Blue oval, baby!

Besides the obvious is there any difference in the construction of aftermarket solid and hydraulic roller lifters, particularly in the roller? I am considering changing from a solid roller to hydraulic roller cam in my BBF. I currently have the Comp Endura roller lifters with the EDM oiling to the roller. I read somewhere that Comp recommends replacing their solid roller lifters every 7500 miles. Just wondering if the construction of the hydraulic roller lifters give them a longer life span. Thanks!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Ohio Crankshaft parts
« on: December 03, 2023, 05:16:57 PM »
Has anyone had any dealings with Ohio Crankshaft? I have the opportunity to get a stroker shortblock at a good deal and the seller says it has Ohio Crankshaft crankshaft and rods. Just wondering how they compare to Scat or Eagle.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Crites cold air kit?
« on: November 28, 2023, 11:32:32 PM »
I was looking on Crites website and saw they have a cold air kit for 65-66 Galaxie. Does anyone know what that is? They didn't have any pictures or description.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / M/T drag radial age question
« on: September 23, 2023, 10:42:59 AM »
As I prepare for RaceWeek I found out the class(true street) I may want to run in requires a DOT tire. I have some M/T drag radials that are the same as new but are 10 years old. I am not going to be fast this year as I am taking my Galaxie that I have pretty much converted back to a cruiser so 13s are probably the best I can hope for. I don't really want to order new tires at this stage plus this may be a one time deal but I don't want to run on dangerous tires either. They have been kept in a pretty much climate controlled environment, inside and never over 90 or under 40. I can run in the bb/na class and I have some slicks already mounted but they give out a "slowest car in class" award in the bb & sb/na classes and there is the real possibility I could get that honor with my car this year, LOL.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Any members going to Drag Week or RaceWeek 2.0?
« on: September 08, 2023, 08:21:30 AM »
I am planning on going on Raceweek. I am going to just kind of cruise the event in my detuned '66 Galaxie this year. But I will be watching the Drag Week live feed and I'd like to know who to watch out for, :).

Non-FE Discussion Forum / C6 case question
« on: August 30, 2023, 03:26:40 PM »
I am building a C6 (sorry 385 series) and I found my case had some pitting where that big piston in the rear of the transmission goes. A buddy of mine gave me a case he had laying around that was in a race car at one time. For whatever reason (probably cooling) a previous owner had milled off part of the bottom of the case. It will be going in a fairly heavy street driven vehicle so I wondering if that would affect the integrity of the bellhousing and I am also concerned about the flex plate and torque converter being exposed. They did a good job with nice rounded corners so no sharp edges.  What do you guys think? Thanks!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Lithium Ion jump starters
« on: August 09, 2023, 12:08:16 AM »
I like to carry a battery jump start pack with me and have always had the lead acid model. I'd like to have something a little more compact and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the lithium ion units out now. Thanks.

Today I finally bit the bullet and tore into the 390 in my '67 F250 to replace the front and rear crankshaft seals. I was looking over the crankshaft spacer and although it's not too bad, it could use a speedy-sleeve. I thought "Oh no. I might need the part I dread more than any other to ask for at the local chain parts store.  More than once have I gotten the deer in the headlights look from some young tattooed gal behind the counter when I asked for a speedy-sleeve. I'll check their inventory on line and get the part number so they won't have a melt down. The groove is really light but it's there.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Hood caddie
« on: August 03, 2023, 04:21:11 PM »
I got a little bored today now that my '67 F250 is pretty much done so I built a hood caddie for the shop using scrap stuff I had laying around. It works in conjunction with the one man hood removal/installation fixture I have for my cherry picker. I should have built this a long time ago.
