This has me a bit perplexed... I just changed the 8" diff in my 68 cougar from a 3.00 to a brand new, built by a local professional, 3.55. Nothing else changed, but now there's a driveline vibration that wasn't there before.  It seems most noticeable at higher speeds, above 75 and under deceleration. Looking for any insights other than what's been bouncing around my brain...

Nothing else has been changed
Driveshaft has balancing washers on it
I flipped the driveshaft 180 just to make sure
No u joint caps came off
The diff is nice and quiet, I don't believe there's anything wrong with it

I did notice that the Driveshaft might be a bit long. It's appears to be an aftermarket custom one, but when unbolting it from the diff yoke, it doesn't slide forward enough to even clear the yoke all the way. But it did not have this vibration with the 3.00 diff...

Im thinking u joint or the driveshaft being too long...?

FE Technical Forum / Turning Solid Drag Rotors?
« on: March 29, 2024, 12:22:41 AM »
The rotors on my 67 drag car are warped, does anyone have any experience, not opinion, on turning them? Or should they just be replaced?

They are solid, drilled Aerospace Components rotors.

Private Classifieds / WTB Cam for 390 - Dump Truck
« on: June 11, 2023, 09:32:56 AM »
My buddy has a 71 f350 dump truck that he daily drives for his business. It has a tired old 360 in it.  I am doing a quick backyard rebuild on a 390 I have here and need a low end torque cam for it.... and I need it quickly.

Anyone on here have one laying around? Good used or new is fine.

Would like to find an edelbrock performer 390 intake for it too, everything I have currently is higher rpm stuff.

Please let me know - Thanks

FE Technical Forum / C5AF-12127-AV - Original Application?
« on: October 04, 2022, 11:10:39 AM »
I picked up a C5AE-G Blocked 427 engine and with it was this distributor. I have not had one before and cant find hardly anything about it online aside from guesses.  It is a FoMoCo casting, spring 65 dated.  The SOHC distributors are mostly AZ but I am wondering if this is one as well OR what else it could have come with...  Any information greatly appreciated, looking to learn.

FE Technical Forum / Fiddlinbrooks - C5ae-G 427 Block
« on: May 09, 2022, 01:40:54 AM »
For some reason I don't get PM's on this forum, I get notified of them via email and can read them there but they do not show up here so I can't reply.

There are lots of people who know WAY more than I do about this, Kevin Rolph being one I'm sure but I'll share what I know.

You have the very first PRODUCTION 427 side oiler block Ford ever made for use in both assembly line cars AND race cars. It wasn't produced very long at all either, likely just a few months in the spring of 1965, after that run of G blocks they started a longer production run of the c5ae-h 427 block. Your block is a BIG money piece to a cobra guy with a real car.

The G is not really significant accept for the Ford engineering number sequence and being the suffix they used to identify it. They probably used the letters before that in the R&D of making test runs and decided to go full production by the time they hit G. Everytime they made an engineering change, the engineering number changed, A-B-C, etc...

Hope that is helpful and somewhat answers your question, have fun with your build. Let me know if you need anything.

A Little Smile:
I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 60 years later. I don't have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad. I don't have a curfew. I have a driver's license and my own car. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant and I don't have acne. Life is great. I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People get out of the way much faster now.
Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers.
I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row. I decided to stop calling the bathroom "John" and renamed it the "Jim". I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
Old age is coming at a really bad time.
When I was a child I thought "nap time" was a punishment. Now it feels like a small vacation.
The biggest lie I tell myself is... " I don't have to write that down, I'll remember it".
I don't have gray hair... I have "wisdom highlights"! I'm just very wise.
If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would've put them on my knees.
Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet.
Why do I have to press one for English when you're just going to transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway?
Of course, I talk to myself. Sometimes I need expert advice.
At my age "Getting Lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came In there for.
I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.
Now, I'm wondering... did I send this to you, or did you send it to me?

I just picked up a 67 coupe drag car to play with, It currently has a solid rollered 351/408 CJ bottom end in it.  Supposedly a low 10s car as it is.  It has an edelbrock torker 351 single plane intake on it now with a 4150 flange, and adapter and then a Dominator.  It just kinda goes against everything I currently know about engines to leave this setup alone, I cant stand the idea of the adapter setup.  Does anyone have any experience with a setup like this?

FE Technical Forum / Richmond/Doug Nash behind a FORD engine
« on: November 09, 2021, 09:16:36 PM »
Does anyone have any experience running a Richmond behind a sbf or FE? I'm wondering about the input shaft and what needs to happen to make it work behind either engine. I have a picture of the input shaft but can't post pics here.

Any guidance greatly appreciated.
