« on: August 13, 2023, 04:48:58 PM »
What’s the preferred solvent or soap to clean a machined block prior to assembly?

FE Technical Forum / Piston ring file
« on: May 30, 2023, 07:19:01 PM »
What inexpensive ring file is the best to go with? I see several options from summit, jegs and speedway motors but they are all pretty much the same imported piece.

FE Technical Forum / Oil pan
« on: May 16, 2023, 10:08:21 AM »
Would it be wise to go ahead and spend the money on a deep sump pan and pickup or use the factory pan on my 445? The pan is original to the motor which came out of a 67 Galaxy and will be going in my 67 Mustang. I’m gathering the rest of the parts I need to get the motor assembled and a pan is on the list of options if needed.

Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Rocker Arm Studs
« on: December 20, 2021, 10:12:51 AM »
Need some suggestions on Rocker Arm Studs to go on my TFS heads. I see TFS sells a kit but wondering if they are the way to go or is there another option I should look into such as ARP?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Torque Wrench
« on: November 04, 2021, 11:42:34 AM »
So I'm in the market for a good torque wrench digital or otherwise but something that won't break the bank. I am thinking something in the $200 or less price range. 3/8 or 1/2 drive and capable of 100 = ft lbs.

Thoughts?

FE Technical Forum / Blue Thunder intake Oil Fill Tube delete
« on: August 08, 2021, 11:16:33 AM »
What’s the preferred method for blocking off the oil fill tube hole on a single 4v Blue Thunder intake if it’s not going to be used? This will be going on the 390 I’m putting in my 67 Mustang and I’ll be filling the oil through the valve cover.
Thanks,

FE Technical Forum / To port or not to port, that is the question
« on: May 05, 2021, 07:01:10 PM »
So I just got some new to me Edelbrock heads from a forum member. They are box stock and have never been run and I’m wondering if I need to do any port work to them or run them as is. I’ll be running them on the 390 I’m working on that will be getting a 445 stroker kit and a Blue Thunder medium riser intake. Not sure on the cam yet as I need to consult Brent on that. Any thoughts on the head and or intake porting?

FE Technical Forum / Pitting in Combustion Chamber
« on: April 26, 2021, 12:38:26 PM »
I saw a set of bare C8OE 6090-N heads for sale but they appear to have significant pitting in some of the combustion chambers. Are these salvageable and or worth putting work into vs a set of Trick FLows whenever they are back in stock?  They would be for a 445 build. Just looking at head options while I wait for my block to be machined.

FE Technical Forum / Advice on an intake
« on: April 20, 2021, 05:05:40 PM »
I’ve been chatting with a guy I’ve bought Mustang parts from in the past and he’s got a few FE intakes he is willing to sell. I need advice on them as to which one would be best for a 445 build or if I should just buy a new Performer RPM and call it a day. I’m not partial to any one of them but wanted to see if any of them are worth buying over the Performer. Keep in mind this is going to be mostly a street car, so mostly low to mid range power usage.

This is what he says he’s got and what he is asking for each of them.

eldelbrock streetmaster $500
hipo 390 factory ford alum $500
police interceptor $700

Thanks in advance.

FE Technical Forum / Oil mods list?
« on: March 20, 2021, 07:58:07 PM »
Can anyone give me a list or diagram of the oiling mods that need to be made on an FE? I’m going to have the machine shop do them while he has the block and want to make sure he gets everything done that should be for the improved oiling.

Thanks.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Alternative Fuel types
« on: March 16, 2021, 03:03:50 PM »
With all the talk of wanting to go EV and end fossil fuels these days, what Alternative Fuel types do you believe the FE could efficiently run on? Not sure that gasoline will ever be gone completely in our lifetimes but it's something to think about.

Thoughts?

FE Technical Forum / How to remove Cam retaining plate screws?
« on: March 14, 2021, 04:45:40 PM »
How to remove Cam retaining plate screws? I’m tearing down the 390 and I’ve come to the cam retaining plate and need to know what to remove the screws with. They appear to be a large Phillips head screw but I don’t have a Phillips large enough to fit. Can anyone tell me what size bit I would need to take them out? I believe they are original to the motor and don’t believe they have ever been out so they are tight.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Jody “SKEETER65”

FE Technical Forum / 427 anyone?
« on: March 13, 2021, 09:41:26 PM »
I just saw this 427 listed for sale somewhat near where I live if anyone is interested. Not sure why why they are selling it but it looks to me like in one of the pictures near the #8 cylinder it appears to resemble JB Weld but pictures can be deceiving.

FE Technical Forum / MSD 8595
« on: March 11, 2021, 03:55:38 PM »
What is an MSD 8595 and MSD wires worth and is it worth using over a factory FE distibutor with points or a Pertronix conversion?
I ask this because I just saw one listed for $400 for the Distributor and Wires. Seller says it's only got 6 hours on it. I believe it may have been in a marine application based on the user's profession and the 6 Hours reference.

FE Technical Forum / Thoughts on Molnar rotating assembly?
« on: March 03, 2021, 02:10:36 PM »
I spoke with a local machine shop this afternoon that I plan to use for the machine work on my block. He suggested going with Molnar for the rotating assembly in my 390 that I will likely do a 445 stroker in. What is the consensus on that brand or should I plan to go with Scat? I am just trying to get my ducks in a row so I know what to go with after the block is inspected and determine how much work it needs.
