Non-FE Discussion Forum / Street Muscle 64 Galaxie
« on: February 13, 2024, 03:14:58 PM »
Just watched a video on the Street Muscle website on the Ruffian Garage 526ci FE powered 64Galaxie.
This car is a very complicated build and took 7000 hr's of labor to build.
A entertaining video a bit long but the driving parts start's at 37 minutes.
You might want to check it out, not a lot of FE videos out there from the main stream media.

FE Technical Forum / Compression ratio
« on: December 27, 2023, 02:13:28 PM »
I need someone smarter then me to figure my CR.
I just spent all morning ccing my heads and was a little surprised at the results.
The heads cced out at 68-69 cc across both of them.
Edelbrock 427 Aluminum heads with 220-173 valves.Heads have been worked but not milled.
Here is what I have 428- Bore is 4.164.
Pistons are flat top race tech sticking out of the block 0.005.
Stock stroke.
Block was square decked and blueprinted.
Crank assemble balanced to 1 gram.
I have forgotten how much of a pain it is to cc heads and it took me a lot longer then I remember having to do in the past.
Thanks

FE Technical Forum / May have forgot something on engine build.
« on: December 05, 2023, 10:52:06 AM »
I had my exhaust valves in my heads replaced to get rid of the sodium filled ones.
Edelbrock 427 heads with 2.20-1.73 sizes.
I ordered a new Comp Cams burret kit to cc my heads because the cheap plastic one I had I didn't trust. The new one came in yesterday.
While looking at the heads I started to wonder if I was going to have to notch my cly. walls for the 2.20 intakes to clear.
I have a 428-0.30 over and really hope I don't have to clearance the valve's as I have the short block buttoned up.
I know I will find out when I get the heads on but was wondering if anyone has this combo and if you had to notch the cly. for clearance.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Need some construction advice
« on: November 10, 2023, 12:38:17 PM »
I had my 2 post lift installed 13 years ago and yesterday was lifting my Ranchero on it after installing a new windshield.
While lifting the car I had my hand resting on the post and it moved a little bit.
When I got the car up to the top I looked at the bottom of the post and the inside of the post was lifted about a 1/8 inch.
When I pored the floor I made the part of it that the post would mount to 36 inch's deep.
Kind of concerned about this and tomorrow I  will lower the car to the floor and tighten down the nuts holding the post to the floor.
I have in the past tightened these down and they were all ways a little loose after about 6 months or so.
Any advice to prevent this from happening again.
thanks

Non-FE Discussion Forum / No more TFS heads from Summit.
« on: October 15, 2023, 05:29:38 PM »
Looks like Summit no longer sells TFS heads for our FE's.
Checked their site and they don't list them, just Edlebrock and reman vega heads.
Since Summit owns TFS it looks like they will no longer be available.

Private Classifieds / 63 R code for sale
« on: October 01, 2023, 11:23:57 AM »
Hemmings.com has a 63 R code with 427, 4 speed, 411 detroit locker for sale in their web page.
Not a bad looking car the owner said was never wrecked and has no rust.
He does not state that the engine came with the car or not all though the vin is an R code.
Highest bid so far is $36,000 but he is asking $66,000.
The only thing I don't like about the car is the dummy spotlights. If you remove them you would have to repair the holes drilled to mount them.

« on: August 19, 2023, 02:15:37 PM »
I just ordered a locar electronic shifter to go behind my 6r80 I am installing in my 63 Galaxie.
I am going to use the stock console and was wondering if anyone has done this install before and if you have any tips.
Thanks

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Rear meaurement
« on: August 16, 2023, 11:58:18 AM »
Well, I finally got off my lazy rear yesterday and measured my rear end in my 63 Galaxie. It came out at 56 1/2 inch's inside flange to same.
I think that is a little narrow compared to what other's are reporting but I have a lot of room for big tire's.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 64 galaxir's
« on: August 10, 2023, 06:42:27 PM »
Found 2 64 galaxies in a field yesterday. Both were 390 car's and looked to be in good shape from the road.
I got a hold of the owner today and he said I could come and look at them tomorrow.
One of them was his fathers car he bought new and he had plans to restore it but doesn't have the time or the energy to do it now.
He said he would make me a great deal if I promised to fix it up.
I told him no problem and when finished he could take it for a cruise.
Guess if I can buy them I will need to start looking for a couple 590's and trannys as both car's are missing them.

I need a cross member for my 63 box top. I don't think it matters if it is for an auto or standard trans as I am installing a 6r80 auto in the car and plan on modifying it to make it work.
Will pay shipping to 73541.

I was looking on the net and found tubular control arms for the 63 from a company called SRHQ and a part number for a pair [both sides] for $1360.
Picture looks good.
Has anyone tried these yet and if so what is your verdict on them?
I all most ordered a set but though I would check first.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / portable paint booth
« on: June 22, 2023, 02:40:17 PM »
Since I sold both body shops I don't have a clean place to paint my car's any more.
My home shop is just to dirty and has to many air leaks in it to use.
I was looking at the china made paint booths with 2 fans. 33x16x13 for $900.
I try to not buy china stuff but don't know of an American made unit.
Has anyone bought one of these and if so how did it hold up and work for you?
Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Replaceing body bushings
« on: June 13, 2023, 03:08:28 PM »
I have my body stripped down for sealer [63 Galaxie 500] and noticed the body isolators are cracked and seemed to be a little compressed.
How much of a problem is it to replace these one side at a time?
I have a lift and a bunch of jacks and i don't think it would be a big job.
I have done these before on some of my other car's but had the body's off the cars at that time.
Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Finally got some time
« on: June 08, 2023, 02:36:16 PM »
Yesterday I started stripping down the 63 body for some sealer. When I bought it the former owner had it in primer and the surface rust was starting.
Don't like rust so went to work on it.
The more I tear into this car the more amazed I am at the lack of rust.
I have the trim, front clip etc. off and all the other pieces and the only rust was a small hole where he had the trunk mounted battery and a small pinhole under the gas peddle. No rust under the trim or the bottom of the body at all.
However there is no insulation or sound deading in the car at all.
There are a few thing's that I will have to find to finish it but not much, ashtray, trans cross member. It had the heater delete in it so will install a aftermarket heat ac unit.Small stuff but it adds up.
Trim is real nice but have 2 little dings to work out but I am going to polish all of it anyway.
After 4 years I finally have a little time and am enjoying getting on it.
