This chunk of extra material has apparently gone undetected for over 50 years in the #5 runner of a 289 intake. It's about the size of a cigarette butt, and you can't see it from either end.  ;D

This is not an endorsement for cheap imported endoscopes from Amazon because I hate that, but I guess it sort of is.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Wilwood front discs with Ford dual master?
« on: December 14, 2022, 09:17:03 AM »
I have a Wilwood classic front disc kit (140-13476, the economy one) that got shelved on an earlier project.

Has anyone paired these with the 1970s Ford dual master cylinder (Maverick etc, manual front disc / rear drums) or know if the volume would be compatible?

It just occurred to me that (if I don't require an aftermarket master) might have the parts here to retire another single pot master cylinder.

I know it's as easy as a call to Wilwood, but I'd feel better hearing from someone who has stepped on the pedal afterward. Plus my FE project is dragging and I want to look alive here.  ;D

FE Technical Forum / 2" primary headers loss vs. 2 1/8
« on: August 07, 2020, 01:26:13 PM »
I have a set of 6376 Hooker adjustable headers, the 2" version of the 6375 (2.125).
Any idea how much power I'm leaving on the table with the 2" primaries?

I'd like for the build to live quite a while, so I'm okay bringing the peak RPM down some.

These are for a 4.375 x 4.375 Tunnel Port, single Holley 4500, 13.5:1-ish and E85.
Shooting for 3400 pound max, 4-speed, 29" tire, weekend 1/8 mile car, not a max effort racer.

The rest of the specs are tbd, as it's still early. I just hate to take hammer to car and pipes in mockup if these need to stay on the shelf for a smaller CI build.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Old Mallory distributor parts compatibility
« on: April 15, 2020, 09:17:23 PM »
I have a dual point Mallory I'd planned to convert the top to electronic, but before I spread multiple units out for parts, I thought I'd ask here.

Are/were any of the Unilite SHAFTS dimensionally compatible with the old tach-drive points bodies at all?

This is a YL 496B. If there's a simple way to drop a modern shaft in there, I'd prefer to do that, too. (I'm okay losing the tach drive functionality if everything measures up otherwise)

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Convertible drag cars
« on: June 22, 2019, 12:33:48 PM »
I've heard all the horror stories, and I've seen a couple of bent cars, so very little of that, please.  ;D

Hoping to hear from someone who has run any unibody convertible, but especially 66-69 Fairlane/Torino.
Care to share engine/trans/gear/tire combos and what reinforcement work was done?
I'd love to get away with subframe connectors, cross members, and 8-pt, of course, but if that's not realistic for a stroker and 11" tread, now's the time to adjust.
Project is a 68 Torino, so trying to chip away at 3500 lbs.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Autolite plug date codes
« on: June 12, 2019, 02:28:08 PM »
I'm trying to keep a stock of the new/old Autolites. Just because, I guess. I just prefer them.

The ink on the box tabs say 1966 (the graphics design, I assume) but is the 7-72 stamped in the tab here roughly accurate for production?
Only a few boxes per case are stamped at all, with no markings on the outside of the case.

This has all the hallmarks of a dumb question, but it wouldn't be the first I've ever asked.

Anyone recognize it? Is it on literally every FE head, and I've just never owned one this clean?
On the smooth end of a C7OE-K head from a mixed set.

I can ignore random initials, as I sometimes do the same, but the fancy oval gives me pause.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Auto Metal Direct wheelhouses 50%

I'm not affiliated with them, mileage may vary, your parents put it together, etc.

But their 66-69 Fairlane/Torino wheelhouses (and I think others) are half off right now.

I can measure all day long (feels like I have), but nothing beats experience. Has anyone here done a 68/69 retaining the original rails, notched or un-notched, lip rolled/stock?

I'd like to hear that an M&H 28/12.5/15 on a 10" wheel works, but any data is good data.
