FE Technical Forum / Cut down 427 "tulip" valves in a 428CJ head..
« on: January 21, 2022, 02:19:54 PM »
I think I remember that the CJ head liked a "flat valve'' and a tulip valve hurt HP . I have a set of XE valves that appear to be 427 MR's cut to 2.095 and they have a 45* seat , not 30*. Before I cut the angle in my otherwise unmolested 68 heads I would like to know if it's a good move. I could always cut the valve to 30*s as there is enough margin to do so .
  Thanks ,

Last night I was looking at my log book of sequential "SK" numbers used by Ford EEE engineers to create special race oriented parts. Lo and behold I find about 7 that reference 427 blocks and specific materials to be used to make them. The first three specify ACB iron to be used , and the next four list the elements and specific percentages to be used. Unfortunately I left the book at home so I can't immediately post the SK numbers AND dates "today" and the info will have to wait until I return on Monday Jan 3.
Several have referred to "mythical" high nickle  blocks and it does appear that they WERE made. "I" know funny car racer Tommy Grove had them in '68 and they were the reason he continued to run the Cammer into '72 , even in the Barry Setzer VEGA funny car!!!!!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Appeal / job opportunity....

Racetec Pistons is looking for 1-2 "long term" employees to start ASAP in our sales department. This would be best if you were already in southern California , but if you were considering a relocation to So Cal , this could be an opportunity. Engine knowledge required , piston knowledge can be learned. Experience based pay but Ca min wage is $13. Medical , 401K etc. NO SNOW year round but you can drive an hour and be in it if you want.10 minutes to the Pacific Ocean.
PM me a resume if interested

Jay please move if this belongs in another category.

FE Technical Forum / PRI show in Dec. Is anyone going? Jay?
« on: September 04, 2020, 12:07:31 PM »
The company I work for is keeping the Booth space but we are considering not sending anyone to man it. Why? If we "opt out" , we lose our location ( potentially) that we have had since the move back to Indy from Orlando. I don't want to confuse people next year by possibly being in a different location. Those of you who have attended know why I'm concerned as our location is very good for high traffic. Maybe attendance will dwindle more and they will cancel it for this year ( as they should IMHO).
Let me know if you're going and I may send someone (or myself) to sit in a chair in an empty booth and answer questions.

Complications from Covid-19 have claimed another great one. I've known Sonny since the '60s and this is very sad. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Just heard from Larry at Kuntz and Co , Jim passed away yesterday of a massive stroke. He was a major force in FE Ford performance and will me sorely missed. I dealt with him for 20+ years. RIP my friend.

While I am new to this site , I'm not a newbie by any means. I am curious if anyone ( Blair or Jay) have done a back to back on the C8OE-A "early" versus the common later C8OE-C Cobra Jet intakes.  Dennis K could probably look at the Ford blueprint to see what the change was  ( causing the casting number change) but I was wondering about power.
      Thanks in advance ,
         Randy
