FE Technical Forum / Question on 69 Fairlane fiberglass hood/fenders?
« on: June 11, 2020, 12:29:11 PM »
I am restoring a 69 Fairlane formal roof Cobra clone. I am aware of a guy on Ebay in Canada selling repro fiberglass front fenders and hood and was wondering if anyone had any dealings with him? More interested in quality of parts, fit, etc? I'm not opposed to buying original sheet metal, but just having no luck finding anything good, or the owner thinks they are gold. I would appreciate any thoughts? Thank you, Brian

FE Technical Forum / 69 Fairlane Cobra/Talladega oil cooler line specs?
« on: February 27, 2020, 08:34:29 AM »
I am building a 69 Fairlane Cobra formal roof clone car, and will be using the SCJ oil cooler assy. I am going to have a local company make me the oil cooler lines. I am very aware that they will not match originals, just looking to make a decent set of functional and less expensive lines as opposed to the extremely rare and very expensive originals. All that I really need are the length specs for each line. Can someone help me out with that info? Thx, Brian

Looking for a set of 14" standard full wheel covers for a 69/70 Fairlane. Nothing super special is necessary and inexpensive would be the key here. Just something driver quality would be good. I am located in central Ohio, so, someone coming to Columbus spring swap would be fine also. Lmk and thanks much! Brian

Private Classifieds / Basic FE stuff and more.
« on: December 24, 2019, 09:10:04 AM »
I have several FE parts from past projects and engines that I will not be needing. Ok, Procomp new FE chrome valve covers, standard power by Ford valve covers, truck 360 oil pan, timing cover, couple of standard 360/390 air cleaner assemblies, truck horizontal oil filter adaptor, several crank and water pump pulley's, pair of "Arvinode" mufflers in 2 1/4 size, A/C evap/heater box from 69 Fairlane, A/C lower dash from 69 Fairlane. Probably some stuff I am forgetting? Pictures upon request, and just make me an offer on whatever if you are interested. I could use the space and need this stuff gone.

Also, (4) BF.Goodrich radial T/A white letter tires; (2) 195/70/14 and (2) 245/60/14. Tires are a few years old and might have rolled a mile under a project car that is now gone. $400obo. Lastly, I have (2) 14x7 standard black wheels with small center and (2) 14x5.5 standard black wheels with small center. $150obo

Like I said, I need all this stuff gone and I am very open in talking with anyone interested.

Thanks, Brian

Private Classifieds / 1969 Torino with 428 project.
« on: August 26, 2019, 02:01:21 PM »
Hello everyone, I am selling my 69 Torino formal roof project with 428 engine. The body of this car is basically a rolling shell with little interior. It will need work, rust/dent repair, but certainly not bad for being 50 years old. The hood and fenders are rustfree but have many dents. I have the lower dash ( a/c style), the standard cluster, a very nice dash pad, and the a/c evaporator/heater box. I also have all of the glass which is in good condition less windshield. The car does have a 9 inch rear with 2.75 gears.

The engine is a "faux" 428SCJ that I had built several years ago. It has never been run, just stored appropriately. The transmission is a FE C6 out of a 68 Galaxie XL. This transmission was rebuilt in the mid 90's and still shifts and drives fine. Low miles since rebuild. I have many extra parts, 428 radiator mounts, 428 engine mounts, correct trans mount, correct shift bell crank for C6 Torino with column shift. More extra parts.

I am listing the car here first. The FE power forum has been a wealth of info for me, and all of the members have treated me very well! Life has changed for me recently and my health is not what it used to be, thus my decision to sell. I didn't want to write a book about this car for this listing. If someone is interested, please call or text and I would be glad to fill in the blanks. I am not super happy about selling this project, but it is time for me to do this. Life moves on! Thx! $12K. Private Classifieds / WTB 69 Fairlane C6 engine side shifter bracket.
« on: April 14, 2019, 03:14:42 PM »
I am restoring a 69 Fairlane formal roof car with 428. This car is a C6 car and factory column shift which I will retain. I need the engine side bracket that supports the end of the column shift bell crank. This bracket would bolt in the same location as clutch Z bar bracket, and it should be the same as a 68/69 Fairlane C6 with either 390 or 428 engine. If it helps, the base number is 7C431 and there is a decent illustration in the MPC for those who have that. Honestly, I could use the shift rod between the bell crank and trans manual lever also, but I'm more concerned with the engine bracket at the moment. I would certainly appreciate any help! Thx,  Brian N

FE Technical Forum / FE C6 shift lever?
« on: March 15, 2019, 01:03:11 PM »
I am building a 69 Fairlane Cobra clone car and recently bought a C6 out of a 68 Galaxie with floor shift. My Fairlane will have column shift and I have heard that you can flip the shift lever around to accommodate the column shift? I knew you could do that with a C4 but never tried it with a C6. Can I just flip it around, or is it simply better to get correct shift lever.........since trans will be a part for rebuild? Thank you!

FE Technical Forum / Hooker 6113 header thoughts?
« on: February 19, 2019, 09:42:27 AM »
I am building a 69 Fairlane Cobra formal roof clone. Engine is 428CJ with street dominator intake, XE274 cam. I wasn't actually at the point of buying headers for this car, but I have the opportunity to get a set of the 6113 Super comps for a great price. I would like to get some feedback from anyone using them in a similar package as I have never used them before. I can see possible problems with fit at the oil filter/adaptor, as well as having them hang low especially on drivers side. I am not a big fan of them aesthetically, the two under and over on drivers side, and swept back similar to Mustang on pass side. In addition, the staggered collector locations. They just look kinda goofy to me. Having said that, I certainly understand that engineering and packaging headers for specific chassis is a difficult thing to do. I certainly like the FPA headers that are available, but at around $900 coated, not in the budget. I also like the Mad Dog headers that are available and think they really look nice on an FE, and are affordable at around $500. But I also realize that they hang down even lower than the Hooker's, and I'm not certain my engine warrants 2 inch primary tubes?

I trust FE power and all you folks who are a part of it implicitly with all things FE. What are your thoughts specifically with the 6113's and in general?

Thanks,
Brian N

Private Classifieds / Misc parts

Selling a few things that I have left over from a 69 Mustang project that is now gone. I will be building a 69 Fairlane Cobra ( clone ) car, and do not need any of the parts. Feel free to make an offer on anything as I need to move this stuff. Pictures available on request. Phone call or text is best. Located in central Ohio. Thx,  Brian N 614-563-4311

1. Nice set of #6114 Hooker headers for 428 Mustang. They are about ten years old, low miles, had them blasted and high temp powder coated silver. $400

2. C5AA-A Cast bell housing. This is technically the Galaxie bell housing, but will work with Mustang/Torino. Has the hump for 11.5 inch clutch. I had it blasted and painted cast blast. Sold.

3.Repro Scott Drake Shaker air cleaner assy for 69/70 big block Mustang. This is the base setup, no snorkle or flapper........but brand new never used. $450

4. Wide ratio top loader 4 spd out of a 66 Fairlane GT 390 car. Still has tag and would need to be gone thru. $600

5. 428 flywheel, brand new but balanced. $50

6. 67 Cougar steering box with pittman arm. Was originally on a power steering car. $50

Parts that I am looking for;

1. 428CJ exhaust manifolds. Prefer the repro versions as I do not need specific date codes.

2.3.91 ring and pinion for nine inch rear.

3. 68/69 Fairlane/Torino FE C6 trans.

4. 69 Fairlane/Torino 428CJ factory H-pipe.

Thx, Brian N

I have a virtually new pair of the repro "snake" 428CJ valve covers. They are currently on an engine but have never been run. I've decided to use the chrome power by Ford 390GT/428CJ valve covers for my project, and I'd like to make some kind of trade accordingly. I would be ok with a set of the repro chrome valve covers as my engine is not numbers matching. Anyway, let me know if anyone has any interest? Thanks, Brian N

FE Technical Forum / Low mount alt on 428?
« on: April 20, 2017, 08:13:54 PM »
I know this question has been beat up over the years on many forums, but I am about to break in and install my 428 in the Mustang and would like to visit it one last time. I currently have my alt mounted high with the C8 brackets, and it's ok, but like so many others, I prefer the low mount position. Is there a way that I can use the C8 or C5 ( I have both ) pivot and whatever adjuster bracket and make this work? I'd prefer not to use the thermac style pivot because of the open hole that will remain. I don't have a bunch of extra brackets, and I've never tried mixing or matching anything. Any thoughts, or should I just talk with the folks at C.R.A.P.? Thanks for any help! Brian N

FE Technical Forum / 428 engine break in
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:04:27 PM »
I am very nearly ready to break in the 428 for my Mustang and just wanted a little feedback. I realize this topic has been discussed much, but I'd much rather error on the safe side and ask again. I'd be glad to give a "break down" on the engine build if needed, but my biggest concern is the flat tappet cam.

I plan on using Valvoline VR1 10W-30 oil with the CompCams break in additive, drill prime the engine. As for the actual break in, run the engine a maximum of three twenty minute periods at 2000/2500 rpm with cool down in between. I suspect that if the cam makes it the first twenty minutes, I'll be ok? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated! Brian N

FE Technical Forum / New to the forum and have questions?
« on: April 01, 2017, 09:57:51 AM »
First off I'll say that I'm really enjoying this forum! Not certain why it took me so long to get here, but I'm here. Great people, very informative and fun! I think that's what it's all about! Very well done!

My question; I have a 69 Mach 1 that I'm restoring with a 428. I built this engine using a Holley street dominator intake/780 carb combo. I'll be running my Shaker and was wondering if I can utilize a one inch spacer and still be ok? I cannot mock anything up yet as the engine is not in the car, but I am aware that those particular intakes are better with a spacer. Any info would be much appreciated.

Last question; looking for an inexpensive engine dolly/stand to break in engine before installing in car. I am aware of Stumpy's fabrication, but was just wondering if anything else was out there?

Again, great site!
