FE Technical Forum / Valve sizes
« on: March 23, 2021, 09:26:54 AM »
I know this will be engine and head dependent, but is there much to gain by stepping up to 2.15" intake valves versus 2.09?
Engine is a stroked 428 with ported CJ heads in my 69 Mustang that is street use, so nothing radical as far as cam.
I was going to go with MR heads and headers due to piston constraints (11.5 to 1 with 72cc head) already installed, but rethinking...

FE Technical Forum / Oil restrictors
« on: December 22, 2020, 07:00:18 PM »
What is the smallest oil restrictor you can get by with? Working on a 427 on a run stand and it was flooding passenger side head. Removed covers to check restrictor size and found 78 jets. Replaced with 60's and changed the rubber valve cover gaskets to cork. Still ran over, so then I seen it was unlevel on the stand. Leveled it up and it did not run over the last run, but it will not always be perfectly level in a car. It has a HP pump, so that is most of the problem I presume, but some push HP pumps. Should I not go any smaller on the restrictors and change the pump or at least the spring in the pump?

FE Technical Forum / 1963 Galaxie suspension
« on: April 29, 2020, 04:06:20 PM »
Looking for ideas and opinions on my 1963 Galaxie suspension. I have read that just rebuilding the factory suspension is the way to go and also eliminate the offset shaft in the front.
If so where is the best place to get good quality Galaxie suspension parts? I'm also not against upgrade ideas if they are worthwhile.
Is it best to go ahead and just replace the leaf and coil springs or just clean up the originals?

FE Technical Forum / 462 FE cam choice
« on: September 15, 2018, 07:50:53 AM »
Finally got my shortblock back from the machine shop for my 68 Mustang and now need to decide on the cam. It is a 428 stroked to 462 with Scat crank/rods and Probe 14791.030 pistons. It will have CJ heads/intake, matched up with close ratio toploader and 3.70 rear gears. I have on hand a Comp 292H but can't find any comparable builds for opinions. I did read in one post that you should advance it 4 degrees but did see the back story for this. I have another custom Oregon cam that wasn't designed for this application and also open for other suggestions.
