FE Technical Forum / which carbs to get
« on: December 15, 2017, 12:02:23 PM »
got my 427 hi riser 2 carb engine running with 2 holly 600 carbs. its running way too rich and these carbs dont have replaceable secondary jets.  its only getting about 330 hp at 5k. i think 1200 cfm may be too much ? would quick fuel 450's be a better choice ?

FE Technical Forum / starter breaking off teeth
« on: November 18, 2017, 12:42:10 PM »
Broke these starter teeth clean off. Is the problem related to too advanced initial  timing and a really strong starter? Theres no wear on the teeth, just broken off. Hard to believe the starter could do that. Its a powermaster w reduction drive.

FE Technical Forum / valve float
« on: October 31, 2017, 03:39:32 PM »
At precisely 5800 rpm my fe hits a wall and loses power. Feels like a rev limiter but worse. I have a hydraulic roller cam from comp cams. I thought it was my old dual point distributor so I bought msd distributor coil and box. Same thing at at 5800 rpm. The engine builder told me that the flat tapped valve springs that were on the heads originally were fine so he did not install new springs. He says it's not related to the springs but still has no answer for me. The old springs were about 10 years old on a non running engine so several valves were open for that long. Could these springs create this 5800 rpm fall off? What does valve float feel like?

FE Technical Forum / Distributor clearance

I want to try an msd distributor in my 427 highriser. The front carb hangs over the stock distributor a bit. Does anyone have an msd distributor on a 2 4bbl highriser that clears the front carb bowl? Also has anyone had issues with petronix point eliminator crapping out at high rpm?

I have a 1964 galaxie that I'm doing the suspension on. one inch front swaybar and 7/8" rear sway bar plus rebuild of a arms and disc brakes. I need new shocks but don't know much about them. I want good quality adjustable shocks and hope someone here can suggest a brand for my car.

This is the only photo of 2 marine engines available for sale. Is this a 427 fe? If so is this a desirable block?

FE Technical Forum / Fuel return line
« on: June 29, 2016, 09:33:57 AM »
I'm running a holly black fuel pump in my galaxie. The pump makes a lot of noise and i wondered if it's in need of a return line to the tank to relieve it of so much back pressure. Any  thoughts?

I have a new fe build that I'm using the original dual point mechanical advance ford distributor.  I replaced the points with pertronix ignitor. The engine runs poorly..won't Rev past 4k or so. Has anyone had probs with this unit?

FE Technical Forum / Distributor clearance

My highriser 2 4bbl intake puts the front carb slightly over the distributor. An msd billet distributor looks to be too long to fit under the carb. Anyone using an aftermarket distributor with same intake?

FE Technical Forum / Fe starter
« on: February 22, 2016, 01:02:05 PM »
I have a 64 galaxie with a 427 using the long tube iron headers. I tried to fit a later
ford starter but the iron header doesn't let the starter fit like the original long nose starter because of the bump on the side of the starter. What one will fit besides that long nose original  type?

I'm going to run E85 fuel in my 12.5 to 1 compression ratio 427. Using 2 holly 600 cfm
Carbs that have been converted by Justice Daniel. Has anyone had good/bad results using  gas station E85?

FE Technical Forum / Spark plug hole cracks in highriser heads
« on: November 05, 2015, 09:55:28 AM »
I was turning over my as yet unstarted freshly built 427 with high riser heads and I noticed some excess fuel was escaping In a fine mist from 2 plug holes. Could these plug holes be cracked and if so what's the fix?
