FE Technical Forum / 428 Stroker Power ?
« on: June 06, 2021, 10:27:20 AM »
I almost bought a 460/525 for $3,500 with everything but the heads. I spoke with the engine builder said with a little bigger cam and good heads, it should have 650-750 HP/TQ. A guy has a pair of P-51 heads. I would have needed a 460 bellhousing,.. for $2,150.

Anyway...

Ok, basically I've decided to stroke my 428FE. It's at .030 over, stock stroke. Who's and which stroker kit would you b

It's been a long & hard the last 15 years with my bad health and was screwed over of 12,000, I'll do one of two things.

One- just buy a roller cam, lifters and push rods.

Two- find a built engine that already has performance done, either a long block or short block, then maybe sell the one I have.

Three - take the engine apart and install a stroker kit. The engine is almost stock, but Jim Dove increased the bore to .030, stock stroke.

I will miss the the amazing power of the 460 though. But, the Cobra will have the engine it's supposed to have. 😎

FE Technical Forum / Best FE Heads And Why ?
« on: June 01, 2021, 08:31:56 PM »
What manufacturer do you like the best, and why ?

Which are ready out of the box ?
Are $3,000 heads worth it ?
Is max flow the only factor that matters ?
What makes one manufacturer better than the rest ?.
Can highly polished ports make a big difference in flow ?
How much does port matching matter ?

How do you like the new AFR heads and why ?

5
How much power could you expect from a stock 428FE with a 462 stroker kit and good aluminum heads ?
I know there's many variables, but just a average.
How much more with a great pair of heads ?

FE Technical Forum / .050 Over 428FE ?
« on: May 29, 2021, 08:19:51 AM »
Even if you sonic test any FE, going over a .040 was a no no ?
I just read about a 428 build that he bored his at .080 over. Can that really be done ?

He said a while back that he's real busy for much of social, therefore he's not hear much.
But I'm needing to get a hold of him. If anyone here can, please let him know.

FE Technical Forum / David Vizard. High Lift Low Duration ?
« on: February 19, 2021, 11:03:17 PM »
I came across a article and video's from an engine builder David Vizard talking about cams, springs, lifters, oil, additives, etc. From my small search I've found that some think he's a god on engine building. I watched one video so far, and although he sounds pretty conceded and likes to sell himself, he does sound like he knows what he's talking sbout.

And I'll say, I do not know him, work for him, run his seminars or think he's a God, so please don't jump on my back.

Cam lift questions.

What happens in performance between .570 to .645 in lift ?

Flow- I'm confused. I might have wrote it down wrong. The engine builder has the flow at Intake 320 @ 700 and 235 @ 700. The CFM 700 lift 300 and 500.
Does that sound correct ? The we can talk about lift.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer, bit I'll ask anyway.
Is there any difference in power between a solid roller and a hydro roller cam ?

I've been looking at various spring types like, duals, Beehive's and Conical.
What do you like best and why, for street/track and not extreme high lift cam ?

FE Technical Forum / How Many Lifter Manufacturers Are Their ?,
« on: January 12, 2021, 11:30:26 PM »
Out of the say, top 10 well known lifter company's like Comp, Crower, Isky, Bullet, Jones, Linati, Cam Motion, Crane, Jesel, etc  make their own lifters, or buy from manufactures ?  For example, somebody told me that Cam Research is one that buy's from a manufacture and supply the same lifter for Summit and Jegs line of lifter.

So how do you tell a higher priced lifter vs a lower cost lifter, but their made by the same manufacture ?
I guess the same question for camshafts ?

I know that most guys have a brand of spark plugs and even the types they like best, but have any of you engine builders tested them on the dyno ?
I've either used Denso or NGK, but other than looking very close at issues like oil, white, grey & black colors, electrode problem. I have index sets before, but I don't have the testing ability to gauge various types of plug's and manufacturers.

Does the FE heads have a best type, brand and gap that work better as a ''all-around'' plug ?

Copper/nickel, iridium, single platinum, double platinum, and silver.

Just one list, but I'm really wanting professional testing.

FE Technical Forum / Cam Split Duration ?
« on: August 20, 2020, 06:35:26 PM »
About a week ago I had seen a comment on split duration on FE cams, but I can't find it. So does the FE's like them (exhaust I'm sure) why and depending on more factors, about how much ?
