What I got is a 445 in a 1969 mustang. I would like to know what springs and what bushing I should start with in the dist. The engine was dyno at 540 hp and 548 torque. That was at 16 int. and 36 total. That is what it seem to dyno the best at.   4 speed car -389 gear-ported edelbrock heads -performer rpm manifold- headers -294 solid cam. -28 inch. tires.  What springs and how quick do I want the advance to come in. I am thinking Blue bushing and 2 Blue springs.  Any thoughts   And thanks in advance

Private Classifieds / FE Reunion Driveshaft

What I have is a 45-1/2 inch. center to center 3 inch O.D driveshaft with a 6 inch 31 spline slip yoke. The shaft comes with 1330 u-joints on both ends along with the slip yoke attached. The shaft was out of a 69 mustang with a 4 speed. The 4 speed I had was a big in and big out with a long tail housing. 17 inch. verses a 14 inch. That is why the shaft is on the short side. I went with a gear vendor and 1350 u-joints and had a new shaft made. The shaft would work if you need to shorten it for a gear vendor or a set back engine. The shaft is in great shape and can bring to Beaver Springs. $75.00 for everything OBO

Tomorrow traveling from Grand Canyon to Las Vegas with truck and toy hauler (Harley) and staying two nights. Looking for thoughts on car museums and RV parks to stay at. RV park close to the strip would be good. Not a gambler but would like to see a few shows and the night lights. Thanks in advance. See you all at Beaver Springs.

FE Technical Forum / 9inch. whine noise after 8 miles of driving?
« on: August 13, 2017, 02:07:52 PM »
389 gear, locker. It seems after I drive the car for 8-10 miles the rear end starts to whine on acceleration and not on deacceleration.  Last time checked, the pattern and lash was good. Any thoughts? It seems like something is growing with the heat. Bearings, lash? Thanks for your suggestions.

FE Technical Forum / 9 inch. whine ? What to do? Hear is one thought.
« on: July 24, 2017, 09:58:59 PM »
Just install the 9 inch. back in car and it has a slight whine to it. What are some thought on pulling the pinion assem. ahead about 1/2 inch to change the shim. Most likely would try .003 more and test and then .003 less and then test. I am thinking of cutting shim in half to install it. Once the back lash is set it will not change by moving the pinion in and out a bet. So there should not be a oil leak because of the o-ring that is there. All the bearings are new and the preloads and back lash are correct. Will it work? Thanks in advance.

FE Technical Forum / Gear Vendor Overdrive- Tested and works great
« on: July 15, 2017, 09:32:39 PM »
Ok I install a GV overdrive in my 69 mustang about a year ago. 445 stroker, 850 holley,294s cam,389 gear, big in and out wide ratio trans 4 speed, 28 inch. tire. After adjusting carb. to what I like and MSD dist. I finally got to take the car on a 250 mile ride today. 85 % freeway at 75 mph at about 2750 rpm. Car ran great and I checked the gas mileage and I got 14.1 mile to gallon. I think that is great and I am very happy with this combo. Before todays ride all the miles were around town and never had a chance to take it on a long ride. Mostly been raining here in WI.Though I would share this and a big thanks to Jay, Ross, 66 Fairlane, Barry and every one else on helping with the carb, dist, and GV.

« on: June 27, 2017, 04:12:21 PM »
What is different between street gears and strip gear. Is one softer then the other or does one make more noise then the other one? Can you use strip gears for the street or not and why? Thanks for the responds

FE Technical Forum / 850 carb. what size power valve to use and why?
« on: June 15, 2017, 03:03:24 PM »
I have a holley 850 carb. and wondering what size power valve I should use. The engine ideals at 950-1000 rpm and have 8 inches of vacuum. Some people said it should be 1/2 of the ideal vacuum which would be around# 4. What happens if I would use a # 6.5 instead. Would there be a bog at wide open throttle or what problem would a 6.5 pv cause instead of a 4 pv? Just trying to see what would work the best. 294 cam,445 stroker, rpm performer manifold, alum. heads, msd. 18 degrees at ideal and 36 total, 4-speed,389 gear,28 inch tire, blue cam front and brown cam back. 82 jets front and 78 jets back, both 31 squirters. Thanks in advance

Msd #8594 mechanical distributor and 6 AL box
1969 mustang,4 speed,28 inch tires,389 gear, 445 stroker,EDL heads (ported), 294 solid cam, RPM performer intake (ported), 850 holley carb. Dyno at 530 HP and 538 torque at 36 degree total timing
What springs and what stop bushing would you suggest I should start with. As of now I am using a red stop bushing and 2 light silver springs. Is there a better combination of bushing and springs to use? Thanks in advance for the help.

FE Technical Forum / Can a person hot wire a Msd Distributor
« on: June 10, 2017, 09:27:18 PM »
In the old days a person could take a jumper wire and take one clip and go to the pos. side of the battery and the other clip would go to the coil. Then you would short across the solenoid with a screw driver or what ever and the engine would turn over until it would start. I am wondering if you can hot wire a MSD with a 6AL box and a MSD distributor. I am asking in regards to a person stealing a car or does a person have to put in a toggle switch in line with the MSD box. Thanks in advance.

What I have is a shovel head harley with the 5/16 exhaust stud hole stripped out. I believe there is enough material there to install a heli coil but not sure if a time sert would work do to maybe not enough material there to drill and tap. I know a key sert is to big on the OD to work. My question is what is the out side diameter of the drill for the time sert. Or is there any thing else that would work? Thanks in advance.

I have a 1969 mustang big block radiator I may sell but I dont know what it is worth. The number is C9ZE-AE1 date 9AA. I had the car since 1973 and I replace the radiator in 2013 with a aluminum one. Built date of the car is March 24 1969 is what Marti report says. It worked up until 2013. Its been sitting on the shelve since then and thinking about getting rid of it. You can go on Mustang 428 Corba Jet Registry and get all the information about it. It is a 4 speed radiator also. I believe it is also for the cougar. If you can help that would be great and thanks. If I sell it I am going to Beaver Spring could bring it along.

What I need is a 850 carb with a broken base plate or worn throttle shafts. I bought a new 850 base plate and I was told that it would work on the 750 body and it would increase my cfm. My 750 plate is cracked so this is what I wanted to do. The holes between the 750 and 850 main body are different so this will not work. I would really like to go to the 850 carb but if nobody has parts I might have to go with another 750 base plate. Maybe trade? Thanks in advance.

FE Technical Forum / Does venture size matter ?
« on: January 12, 2017, 03:18:36 PM »
I am wondering if you put a 850 holley base plate on a 750 what if any would you gain. I know the 750 has 1-11/16 throttle pates and the 850 has 1-3/4 throttle plates. Are the venture sizes the same? Is it worth while doing? Thanks in advance
