Hi Everybody,
I'm taking my car in for alignment on Tuesday.  It's a 64 Comet, 427 FE, with a Mustang ii front end.  I put new tires on it last year and had the alignment checked.  The tires are both starting to feather on the out side edges.  I've got maybe 1000 miles on the car since the new tires were installed.  What should I be looking for as specs for the alignment?  Should I go with Mustang ii specs, go with the Comet OEM specs, or do something different?  Any suggestions would be welcome.
Take care,
Dan

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for a place in Central NY (Syracuse), where I can get my headers recoated.  Anyone have any suggestions?  About 7-8 years ago, I used a place called "The Mad Scientist", just outside of Auburn, but the phone number I had is no good, and I can't find him online.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
Take care,
Dan

I recently bought a couple of Brent's adjustable timing pointers.  I received them yesterday, and I'm very happy with them.  Brent is easy to work with, and it was a pleasure to do business with him.

FE Technical Forum / Alignment specs
« on: July 21, 2021, 08:14:44 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I have a 64 Comet with an FE 482 CID in it.  The front end is a Mustang II unit.  I'm getting the front end aligned/tires balanced next week.  Can anyone tell me what specs I should be looking for on the alignment?  Right now I get a lot of vibration from the front end, and the tires are wearing on the inside edges.
Thanks in advance.
Take care,
Dan

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 351W rebuild
« on: July 07, 2021, 05:09:19 AM »
Hi Everyone,
I currently have a 351W/393 stroker in my 66 Fairlane.  It was built in 2003 by Keith Kraft, it showed 376 HP on a chassis dynamometer, so I figure it's probably about 450 HP at the flywheel.  It's got about 60,000 miles on it currently, and it's starting to show it's age.  I'd like to rebuild it some time in the future, and I'm looking for some advice.  The block is a Ford Motorsports M-6010-N351 block, it has AFR 205 heads, a Comp roller cam, XR288RF, and an Edelbrock RPM air gap intake.  What I'd like to do is to keep those major components, but put a 427 or 455 Scat stroker kit in it.  Does this sound reasonable, or should I be looking to change something if I go to the bigger displacement?  Also, what would be realistic HP and torque numbers with the existing parts?  Thanks in advance for everyone's thoughts and advice.
Take care,
Dan

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Alternator swap
« on: March 02, 2021, 06:14:16 AM »
Hi Everybody,
I'm currently getting a new Painless wiring harness put in my 66 Fairlane (393/351W), which has the original alternator.  The Painless kit is for a 1 wire alternator, mine is the 3 wire.  I'd like to swap mine out for the 1 wire.  What would be a good swap?  I'm figuring on getting one from the local junk yard.  I'd like something that minimizes the hassles of swapping it; it bolts in, and uses the original belt and pulley.  I'd also like something that puts out more than the current (stock) alternator.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
Take care,
Dan

FE Technical Forum / FE in a 72 Torino
« on: December 30, 2020, 02:24:23 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I've got a 482 FE, and I'm looking for a car to put it in.  I've always liked the 72 Torino fastbacks, and I'm wondering how much of a hassle it would be to put an FE into one.  I think the last year where FEs were an option was in 71, and then the body style changed in 72.  Any thoughts or ideas on this?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Everyone,
I recently got a set of Holley carbs from Drew, for my dual quad 482.  I got them installed, and they run great!  They've made a big difference in how my car runs and I couldn't be happier.  If anyone needs a carb, Drew is the guy to contact.  I recommend him without question!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Fast Eddie's in Cato, NY
« on: June 02, 2020, 08:23:06 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I've been looking for a shop in Central NY, and came across Fast Eddie's.  I went out and spoke to him; he seems pretty knowledgeable.  Is anyone familiar with him, his shop, the work he does?  I'm looking to have an electric steering kit put into my 66 Fairlane, he's the first guy/shop I've found that will do it.  If anyone can give me any info or experience with him, I'd appreciate it.  Also, if anyone knows of another shop in the Syracuse/Central NY area, please let me know.  Thanks in advance.
Take care,
Dan

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 66 Fairlane, 3 point seatbelts?
« on: May 07, 2020, 04:12:02 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to put a set of 3 point seatbelts for the front seats on my 66 Fairlane.  My question is, does the 66 have the mounting point above the door?  I really don't want to start taking the headliner out if there's no mounting point there.
Take care,
Dan

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Clutch replacement
« on: April 04, 2020, 12:10:00 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for input on a new clutch for my 66 Fairlane.  It's a Ford Motorsports 351 block, 393 CID.  It dynoed 376 HP at the rear wheels, so I'm figuring about 425 HP at the flywheel.  Transmission is a TKO 600, rear end is a 9 inch with 3.75 posi gears.  The car is street driven, but I might take it to the track once, just to run it and get some time slips.  I would appreciate any suggestions for a new clutch, and maybe a flywheel if I end up needing one.  Thanks in advance.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Electric power steering
« on: March 28, 2020, 07:06:30 AM »
Hi Everybody.
I've been looking at several articles and videos where guys converted their cars to electric power steering.  It looks interesting, and I'd like to learn more about it.  Does anyone here have any experience with that?  Any ideas on people/shops who I can talk to about it, in Upstate/Syracuse, NY?  The car is a 66 Fairlane, 351/393 cid Windsor, 5 speed Tremec transmission.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

I just wanted to say, I've dealt with Jack on a couple purchases.  He's very easy to deal with, and I'm very happy with what I've bought.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or to buy from him again!
