I replaced the original 352 (C4AE block) in my '64 a few years ago with a late 390 (D3TE mirror 105 block).  It seems that the D3TE block sits a little farther back in the engine bay.  It's not so far back that things don't fit, It just seems that the fan farther away from the radiator than with the C4AE.  Is this just my imagination?

Thanks,

Gregg

I'm getting ready to dump the lower control arm offset shafts for the Rare Parts kit (already have that, and the Quickor front stabilizer bar) and I'm planing on rebuilding the front end while it's already primarily taken apart.  Someone on the Galaxie Facebook page recommended PST.  Their Super kit is $439 and seems to include everything.  But their Yelp reviews don't look very good.  I can find some parts on Rock Auto (Moog upper ball joints and some of the bushings) but the sticking point seems to be lower ball joints.  All I've found for lower ball joints are Rare Parts (very pricey) or unknown brands of unknown origin (likely China, maybe India).  Has anyone here used the PST kit, or any other kit for that matter and if so what are your thoughts?  Any other suggestions or recommendations are very welcome.

FE Technical Forum / New cast iron shorty style manifolds being cast
« on: April 02, 2020, 10:14:44 AM »
This may have been discussed before, but it seems that some is going to start casting a version of the shorty style headers very soon.  This just popped up on a Galaxie facebook group.  Here is the link:

FE Technical Forum / Question about Broader Performance Transmissions
« on: March 11, 2019, 10:59:49 AM »
I need to replace (not rebuild) the transmission in my 64 Galaxie and I am looking at the wide ratio C6.  My thinking is that with a heavy car and 3.00 rear gear the wide ratio would give me a better feel from a red light/stop sign.  I am wondering if the Broader transmission would be overkill behind my mild 390.  I purchased the 390 from Randy Millard and I'm very happy with the engine.  Here are the specs:

Block assy:
D3TE mirror 105 @ .030 over, true flattop cast pistons w/9cc eyebrows (calculated c.r. of true 9:1 - reg fuel friendly), 2UA crank at std/std, C7AE rods fully reconditioned using ARP bolts, Cloyes double roller timing set, Melling M57 oil pump, Melling MTF-4 dual pattern cam (.486/.510, 204/214), OE "bull nose" Galaxie oil pan, late (1-1/8" thick) harmonic balancer.

Heads:
Fresh C4AEG units with new 2.03/1.55 valves, hardened exh seats, premium manganese bronze guides, viton positive oil seals.  Spring pressures are 95 @ seat, 270 open.  Chambers cc'd at 75.  Stock rockers with new SealedPower shafts.

Induction:
C4SE iron intake with OE PCV system, freshly rebuilt 1.12 C5 4100 4bbl carb.  Decent Thunderbird v/covers.

Ignition:
C4AF-N (police interceptor) distributor, NOS Autolite points and condenser, new black cap and black Packard wires, new Autolite 45 plugs.

Exhaust:
Shorty style headers with 2.5" pipes and flowmasters.

This is just a nice weather day cruiser.

Thanks for any input.
Gregg
