Private Classifieds / Ford FE 575-2143 Heads for Sale **SOLD**
« on: October 23, 2022, 10:42:35 PM »
I have a set of good used FE heads.  I believe people refer to these as poor man's medium risers.  They have a great thumbprint, nothing looks damaged, although I would recommend a good cleaning and rebuild. Look at last pic, the measurements on these heads are almost identical to 428CJ heads, larger valves and runners, cheap HP.

I ship worldwide on buyers dime and accept PayPal if you pay the fees.  Also accept check if you're a trusting soul.  I get decent rates through FedEx so please ask for a quote.  Local pickup is always free and cash gets the best deal.  Located in Irvine, CA.  Asking $125 or best offer for the pair.

FE Technical Forum / Side Rod Clearance Question
« on: October 30, 2021, 07:59:20 PM »
I have a couple different stock 427 Steel cranks that measure 1.757 to 1.759 rod journal width and my factory LeMans rods measure .862 to .867, most in the .862 range.  This gives me a .030 to .035 total clearance.  It's been awhile but I seem to remember .025 being a max number for total clearance.  Building a couple hot street 427's and I'd like to stay with factory parts (replacing hardware of course).

Can any of the pro builders comment ?

FE Technical Forum / Magneto Question
« on: September 04, 2021, 06:21:15 PM »
Anyone run a mag on their FE ?  I never have run one and know next to nothing about them  What are the Pro's, Con's.  Thinking about for hot street use on an SOHC and wondering what kind of issues I may create for myself.  All comments and suggestions welcome.

Also need some tips on restoration, what to do and what not to do.  It was sitting in an engine that was rebuilt many moons ago but never fired and the mag still has all the crayon marks on the screws but looks like hell on the outside. I want to make sure there are no issues.  Any contacts for people who rebuild them would be great as well.

FE Technical Forum / LeMans Rod Bolt Question
« on: September 01, 2021, 10:00:59 PM »
Can anyone comment on a question I have about the factory LeMans rod bolts ?  I was told today that the factory rod bolt is not round, but rather has an eccentric type thread, creating a locking type thread.  I've never ran original LeMans rods prior, I've always purchased new but I'd like to run these for an original engine I'm building (the will be wet magged, checked for straight, shot peened and resized/rebushed).

I would also like to know how you guys feel about re-using ARP and/or factory rod bolts.

I have always bought brand new ARP as it's cheap insurance. I also have some rod bolts that don't shank down, black oxide in color, 12pt and they are .435 thick to the threads.  I also have some older ARP bolts that shank down to .365 and some other no brand that shank down to .345 (these may be the original Ford bolts).  All are 12pt.  Any idea whose bolts these no names may be ?  I'll post some pics of them tomorrow.

Any/all recommendations and info is appreciated.

As the ad states, any aluminum brand will do.  Not sure how many different brands there are for this head but I think Dove would be one.  I'll take them needing repair and missing parts, needing rebuilt.  Not really looking for Ford factory originals as they are probably out of sight price wise but if you have some in the reasonable range, I'm a buyer. Thanks

Looking for new or used SOHC valve covers, rockers, cams, rocker shafts, timing cover, gears, tensioners, pistons, etc.  Not looking for OEM stuff but would consider it if priced reasonably (lol, if you can even say that about a Cammer).  Doesn't matter to me who made it, Coons, Dove, T&D, Pond, etc, I'm just looking to buy these 2nd hand and will buy in bulk. Please call Jim at 949-370-8699 or email me at bigblueovalfan@gmail.com.

Private Classifieds / WTB: any/all used SOHC parts, mostly repop stuff
« on: January 21, 2021, 09:47:55 PM »
Anyone have a good line on a complete SOHC or parts, mainly top end and timing.  It can be all apart or assembled.  Not looking for NOS or anything period correct special, just want to build an old school SOHC. If I can get a decent deal on an authentic cammer block and all parts, that would be great but really don't know the difference between Ford heads and Coon's heads and what I should be looking for or asking so any help is appreciated.

Also wouldn't mind any feedback from anyone who has built them and if I could use a BBM block or other as a base ?  I have a couple 427 SO short blocks I could use as well and may be the easiest route but I'm not opposed to buying the whole deal. Kind of conflicted as I'd like to really flog it but would be hesitant with all original parts.  I'm new to SOHC's but have been having fun with FE's for 40 years. Any and all info is welcome, thanks.  Jim 949-370-8699

FE Technical Forum / Screw in freeze plug issue on Aluminum FE block
« on: July 29, 2020, 04:17:58 PM »
As the title suggests, I can't seem to get my screw in freeze plugs to completely seal.  The block is an Aluminum Pond Block with steel pipe thread plugs. No O-ring, just sealed with Permatex Aviation Sealant.  I usually test my systems with compressed air (at 15psi) and spray all fittings, hoses, plugs, etc with soapy water to make sure I'm sealed up.  This particular engine however is giving me fits.  I was able to fix one screw in plugs by cranking the plug a bit tighter but I have two more that have a very small leak.  It will not blow bubbles from around the screw plug, it only foams slowly which means it's a small, slow leak.  After reading some other forums and comments, guys have stated that the leak will subside once the engine heats up and 100% Ethylene glycol will not leak as readily as the air.  I'm not certain about these ideas.  And, the system will leak all the way down to 0 psi air in the system if left overnight.  Any ideas ?  It's already in the car, so do I just fill it 100% with antifreeze and hope for the best ?  I don't want to crank on these plugs any further as cracking the casting would be a tragedy.

FE Technical Forum / Hooker Super Comp Header Install Question
« on: July 27, 2019, 09:03:55 PM »
Anyone have luck installing the Super Comps (for a 4spd) on the engine first while it's out of the car (both sides) before installing the engine in a 67 Mustang ? My cross-member, drag link, tie rods, idler arm are not installed yet so it gives me a little more room to work with.  My steering box is not installed but I think I may do that prior as it looks difficult to perform after the engine with headers are installed.  I'll install my clutch and bell housing but leave the trans off for the install.  Any pro tips would be greatly appreciated.

FE Technical Forum / Anyone recognize these valve springs ?
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:25:25 PM »
I'm trying to give a full accounting of the engine components for this build and I have little to no info.  These are double valve springs w/o damper and have a dark greyish/goldish hue.  They measure 2.334" total uninstalled height, Coil Bind at .973, O.D. is 1.537", 2nd O.D. is 1.118" and I.D. is .816".  They have a seat pressure of 200lb with installed height of 1.879", Open Pressure is 500lb at 1.319" (Measured for .645" valve lift for solid roller cam).

Anyone have a clue as to who made these ?  I've searched, Crane, Comp, Lunati and tried to match it up to something they sell but no luck.  Any additional info needed or if I've missed something, just let me know.

Thanks, Jim
